Here at Revolution Academy, we adhere to a rather strict set of rules. Please note that the following rules apply to every member of these boards, from students to administrators. You will be held responsible for knowing these rules, and as such, you shall be held accountable each and every time you break one.
Golden Rule: Any and all interaction in the IC boards must be entirely in character. OOC discussions involving the direction or plans for a certain story arc must be performed either in the designated "Plot Ideas" area of the OOC boards, or via PM. Brief, occasional OOC messages in IC threads will be allowed within reason.

1;; NO FLAMING.
Trolling/flaming will get you an ass-whooping. We are proud to say that we have yet to experience any major issues with trolling, and we wish to keep it that way. We aim to be a non-discriminating, open-armed environment, and demonstrating respect for everyone's opinions and beliefs is absolutely enforced. Cases of blatant racism, unwanted sexual attention or any other type of harassment will result in immediate banning. If you and another member of this community are experiencing personal problems due to a difference of opinion, we encourage you to try and work it out. If you feel you need mediation in order to settle your differences, feel free to request the aid of a moderator or administrator.
2;; BE A FRIEND!
Treat people nicely and with respect, and they will treat you nicely and with respect.
3;; ADMINISTRATION HAS THE FLOOR.
Do not fight the administration; we are stronger than you. We reserve certain rights, including, but not limited to the following:
- We reserve the right to delete posts at our whim, if they contain any breach of the stated rules, without notification
- We reserve the right to make any changes we see fit to character, location, or plot
- We reserve the right to check the account of any user signed up with the board if we feel that dealings of a questionable nature are occurring. As such, please refrain from performing in any illegal activities over IM as this will result in an immediate ban. Don't think we can't see what you are doing.
4;;DOUBLE POSTING.
Double posting will accomplish nothing except to fuel our rage. There is an edit button for a reason.
5;; BE NICE.
This community has been created for one reason and one reason only: to give people an opportunity to come together and have a good time. The only bad attitudes here are the ones you bring yourself.
6;; THREE CHARACTER LIMIT.
All players are allowed to have up to three characters, but they must be in different categories. For instance, you may not apply for two student characters, or two X-Men characters, or two human characters. For more information, see the Requirements
7;; IMAGE SIZES.
All members must have an avatar [max 150x150 pixels] of an actual person, of believable age, resembling his or her character. Therefore, no more anime or cartoon images will be acceptable. Upon registration and application this will be expected to be present. I do not care how it looks, as long as it's there, even if temporary. NO ACCEPTIONS. Signatures should be no larger than 550 pixels wide by 220 pixels tall.
|
1;; NO SUPER CHARACTER.
No character of either the student or X-Men category will have powers that can absolutely devastate a room, building, or planet without express permission from the administration. If the staff believes your character's mutation to be too powerful, we will provide you with possible acceptable alternatives before admitting you. In addition, any characters who claim to have "little to no control" over their powers will be closely watched by moderators to ensure that such lack of control does not disrupt the role-playing environment. There is also a limit the number of powers a player can have; two. The only exceptions are cannons. The two powers must be related to each other.
2;; GODMODDING.
Godmodding is expressly forbidden. Examples of godmodding include:
Destroying any section of the Academy or surrounding areas
Rendering your character invincible in a way that was not approved by administration upon acceptance of your character (eg, "All of a sudden, he realized he was impervious to bullets!!!")
Demonstrating powers or abilities that have not been approved by administration
3;; PUPPETEERING.
Puppeteering is highly frowned upon. Examples of puppeteering include:
Supplying another character's speech or action in your own post without getting their permission first
Performing physical actions to another character and assuming that character's physical response (even if it seems natural). For instance, your character wants to shake another character's hand. He "extends a hand in greeting," but he does not "shake the man's hand." The act of assuming another character's actions removes their ability to respond as they would like.
We understand that occasionally, a mutation might involve the mental or physical manipulation of other people or mutants. In this case (or any other case in which puppeteering might be necessary) you must contact the person you are roleplaying with and clear it with them ahead of time. We ask that in addition you place a small OOC note at the beginning of the post to indicate that you have been given permission to puppeteer.
4;; STANDARDS AND REALISM.
We hold all of our members to a high standard of role play here. This is why applications must be approved before role play may commence. That said, understand that people who play X-Men are expected to have a higher post quality than the students, and canon characters doubly so. When applying for an X-Man character, you are in effect applying for a more powerful character. Therefore it is only fair that you put into it what you get out. We require that X-Men characters post IC at least once per two weeks. Any person playing a canon character who does not adhere to these requirements will have the privilege of playing that character revoked. Any person playing an original X-Man character who does not adhere to these requirements will be demoted to a student level, thereby sacrificing the opportunity to participate in special "X-Men Only" events.
X-Men characters are also expected to maintain a high level of morality, decency, and respectability. Remember that you are playing a positive role model. This is not a restriction; there can be many different types of positive role models. Regardless of political, religious, ethical view point all X-Men will report to Laura Kinney and follow the chain of command. It is your job as an X-Man to look after students and help them to become productive members of society. This means not, for instance, taking students on a bender and/or participating in lewd sexual activities with them.
On that note, this roleplay takes place in the United States, where the drinking age is 21 and an adult may not bang a minor. There will be no exceptions. While such activities would not be specifically against the rules of the board, anyone "caught in the act" will undergo certain IC disciplinary actions, and possibly even a suspension of the player's account, depending upon the severity of the misdeed. The setting of this board is AU, which means characters should operate under the same standards of behaviour that players would live by in real life, lest they experience comparable, realistic consequences.
5;; IN-CHARACTER POSTS.
IC posts will be written in standard prose form. This means 3-5 sentence paragraphs, descriptive adjectives, omniscient viewpoint of your character, and correct dialogue structure. For instance, the QUOTE tags are a nifty tool...for OOC threads in which multiple people are conversing about the same topic. IC, we ask that if you must reference what another character has said, either write it out or copy and paste it, but don't use the quote function there. Write as though you were writing a book.
Please read the In-Character Post Count for more information.
EDIT AS OF JUNE 2009 - From now on IC posts may not be completely coloured. You may still colour speech and thought but the entire posts should not be.
6;; DOUBLE POSTING.
Double posting will accomplish nothing except to fuel our rage. There is an edit button for a reason.
7;; SEXUAL BEHAVIOR AND OTHER MATURE CONTENT.
There are no rules governing explicit or sexual behaviour. Be as rowdy as you like. However, all threads containing explicit material must include a warning in the title. The administration reserve the right to stop and delete any threads that they feel are too graphic or may have a detrimental effect on the boards.
When making the thread, please remember to make a [M] tag at the end of the topic title.
8;;CHARACTER DIALOGUE.
Now, we all know that not everyone speaks the same. Characters, as they should, have some sort of accent, whether it be American, British, Southern or what have you. But PLEASE leave it out of your dialogue and put description of your character's accent in the rest of the text. See the Interaction section of our Post Writing Help thread. You may colour and/or bold/italicize your characters speech and thought, providing the colour used does not clash with the skin or make the text hard to read.
9;; SPELLING & GRAMMAR.
We understand that spelling and grammar errors may occur, but we cannot stress enough how important it is to perform a quick proofread before submitting a post. We recommend typing your post out in Word or a similar word processing program to catch such errors from the beginning. Using proper spelling and grammar is a sign of respect.
10;; CHARACTER CREATION.
As we are an AU board canon characters do not have to strictly adhere to their comic-verse/movie-verse histories, especially if said histories clash with our current plot and timeline. However this does not mean that everything is changeable, we expect canons to have the same powers and general personality as they do in the comics/movies. This is especially important when it comes to deciding the sexuality of your character; canon sexuality must remain canon.

If you have any questions, concerns, suggestions, or comments, please direct them to the appropriate location. There are multiple boards in the OOC forum that supply a place to vent frustrations or have questions answered. Please direct anything else to a moderator or administrator. If you are upset by a decision one of us has made, DO NOT take matters into your own hands. At least one of us is available almost any time of day to answer your concerns.

After long deliberation it has been decided that new minimum word counts for IC posts will now be instigated along with our new five strike warning system. So, the new IC post limits are;
Human Gov't : 350 words
X-men : 350 words
Junior X-Men : 350 words
Students : 350 words
Humans : 350 words
Now before the ‘I cant do that’ bitching and moaning starts, I pretty sure that each and everyone of you wrote more than that for your RP sample when you joined the forum.
We would also like to ask if players, if possible could try to refrain from buffering their posts with quotations. Remember we’re supposed to be at least and intermediate board. Since this is something many of us do, we are in agreement that cutting them out from your posts is not required. However, it is good practice or writing. But for those, like members of the staff, who quote from previous posters, we'd like to set up a few reminders and updates;
DO NOT use the "QUOTE" button in an IC post. It looks bad - simple as that. Paste the quoted dialog between two Italic Text tags, then begin a new paragraph.
Quotes are not included in the word count. This applies not only to dialog quotes or sections quoted from a previous post, but also to song lyric quotes and the like. This word count applies only to the very words you type yourself.
Tags are not included. I know some word counts include the tags as words. Don't ask me why, it just does. If you want to figure it out, try hitting 'Preview' once you are complete with your post. Then copy the preview text and paste into a word count [I.E. Microsoft Word]. Don't forget to remove quotes from other posts, etc.
Please look at the Warning System for details.
Any questions or comments? Please PM a member of the staff, or in this thread.
- Please note, by comments I don’t mean bitching and moaning, what we ask is not a lot by the standards of most RP boards. If you feel unable to write the amount asked then perhaps you should post on the writers help area of the board and I’m sure your fellow members will be more than happy to help you.

1;; 'VERBAL WARNING'.
this is the first time a person breaks a rule. Normally issued through PM. The administration will keep a log of it, so don’t think that we will forget it after a couple of weeks.
2;; FIRST OFFENCE.
this is for when a member breaks the rules for the second time after being given a 'verbal' warning. Another PM will be sent and your warning level on the boards will be increased
3;; SECOND OFFENCE.
This is for when a member breaks the rules for the third time after being given the previous warnings. Once more you will be PMed and then suspended from posting for 14 days, also your warning level will be increased again.
4;; THIRD OFFENCE.
This is for when a member breaks the rules for the fourth time after being given the previous warnings. Warning level will be increased and your account will be suspended for 21 days.
5;; FOURTH AND FINAL OFFENCE.
this is for when a member breaks the rules for the fifth time after being given the previous warnings. After this you will be suspended indefinitely.
Any questions or comments, please PM a member of staff.

Please add this to the 'Anything Else' section of your application. It is an agreement to the board Rules & Regulations, and any future addendums made, and also states that you understand them. If you do not have this, your application will not be accepted.
By submitting my application and adding this bit of information, I, (insert name), understand that administration, given they provide substantial reason, have the right to suspend or permanently ban my account. I also understand that they have the right to deny my application. I agree to keep activity here at Revolution Academy, and take responsibility to let administration know of prolonged absences. I agree to respectfully interact with other members. I GUARANTEE that the material I have posted in the above application is of my own making, and should anything be used from another source I have made a note as to where it came from. Should I plagiarize anything, be it an image set, application, or In-character post, I understand that I will be rightfully banned.

Revolution Academy has been up and running since September 2005. Our members are dedicated to telling a story rather than just engaging in drama and we pride ourselves on giving them an environment in which they can do so. We are an intermediate board and, as such, ask for 350 words minimum per IC post. Our main aim is to provide a fun place where people can work on and, hopefully, perfect the art of writing and are more than willing to help anyone who truly wishes to improve and become part of our game. All in all we are a friendly board with friendly members and helpful staff, so if this sounds like the sort of place for you, don’t hesitate to join up or drop us a line in the c-box.
When signing up please select a first and last name and use proper capitalisation. Anything that deviates from this will be deleted without notice.
Blood is being shed, and there’s no telling who will continue standing where they initially rose. Some will change sides after a revelation, while others will remain headfast and steady. The mutants had harbored no ill will toward human kind, though there are rumors that they will longer take the insults any longer. They once desired peace and harmony, where both races could be considered as equals.
Now they want revenge.
Nights are getting longer and the days are getting colder as New York finds itself hurled into the depths of WINTER. Forecasters as predicting a particularly cold one this year with more than its fair share of snow, rain, sleet and ice that brings with it the promise of a white Christmas. But don’t forget to wrap up warm, we wouldn’t want you missing the seasonal festivities!

It has to be said we’ve all been eagerly watching this pair of fuzzy blue folks wondering how they’re going to cope with each other presences at the academy... And whether anyone is going to complain about all the blue fur blocking the sinks. Great work so far guys, we can’t wait to see more!
