Next RB season..., Lets spice things up somewhat...

Been thinking about how to revive the scene somewhat. I think its important now specially seeing as how the level of play in London has gone up tremendously. Back a year or two and the level wasn't this high but EVERYONE was playing actively. Imagine the results if we all take advantage of this and practice. 3S is like the new ST - it just wont die so since we've managed to get 'this' good, why not get better? Believe me there is more to learn than just how to play top tier matchups.

Let me know your thoughts on this new funky rule for RBs... I think it may reveal some interesting talent in the 3s scene.

Everyone needs to learn TWO new characters for the next season. One top tier, and one low tier. Matches will still be the same as previous ranking battles i.e. 2 games in group stages and best of 3/5 in knockouts.

In group stages, at least one match has to be with your low tier character. I can't be bothered to think of a reward system to encourage players to stick with their low tiers, plus I honestly want the UK to have some more Ken, Chun and Yun players who dont just mess about.

Knockouts the first match has to be with your low tier and you can only switch if you lose. Obviously you get boo'd when you switch, but hey, its about winning.

These are the characters I think people should use. Feel free to start arms or anything from here on.

Ryan Hart - Twelve, Chun Li
Zak - Q, Chun Li
Raju - Akuma, Yun
C4 - Alex, Yun
Hatim - Ibuki, Yun
Jink - Makoto, Ken
Pedram - Yang, Chun Li
Vince - Necro, Chun Li
Waqs - Yang, Chun Li
Gunman - Elena, Ken
Carpet - Urien, Ken
Si - Q, Yun

But i dont think this should be limited to these 3 top tiers, bring in more yangs and dudleys. If its gonna be done like this, I think we should disallow people who are really experienced with their chars, eg i wouldnt oro or necro, naz no akuma chun li/ken, and ryan no yun ken chun yang dudley ryu akuma, let him use urien or something.

I think there shud be a lot of flexibility in who ppl choose, but not to the extent that they can let their lower tier char take a beating and just rely on their top tier.

What about option of 1 low and 1 top or 2 mids.

Interesting idea, but I'm sure some people won't like this since it's like learning the game from scratch, meaning they'll lose more.

But i think the characters should be selected by keeping in mind the players playing style.
E.g. im quite aggressive and dont block enough, so i should be given a defensive character to get some experience in blocking. So yang, being primarily a rushdown character may not be the best choice (even though i want to use yang )

I want to start entring RBs at the start of the new season but what would that mean for me? coz it will be my first RB you wouldnt want me to switch character?.....would you?

plus I use Urien so would that mean the second character I use have to be higher or lower tier?, coz urien's sorta in the middle.

Rory - you can use your main in the your first season However if we find your Urien to be too strong and it reflects how well you understand the game, then we will force you to learn a new character

Jink - this is NOT learning the game from scratch. I think most 3s players now have a very good understanding of the games underlying physics, as well as general knowledge about each characters weaknesses and strengths.

Different characters need to create openings in different ways e.g. Makoto needs you to GUESS wrong or Oro/Urien and 90% of their game revolving around one launcher etc I remember when I picked Alex by mistake the other day and realised I didn't even know what I was trying to hit the opponent with or what kind of a gameplan I should use.

What character each player gets has to be decided by the rest of the scene. Thats why I didnt even bother putting characters for myself. The other ones I put down were just suggestions.

So if people are serious - lets start having votes for who should be allocated what characters. Jink mentioned having two mids - upto you but I strongly suggest that every 3s player should have some degree of sleaziness with a top tier.

Maybe there could be 4 hats, one for Low tier, mid-low tier, mid-high tier and high tier then players could decide if they want low and a high tier or a mid-low/high tier characters.
That way if someone gets chun/ken or whatever they better not loose or they will have to play Q/12/sean or somthing.

I like this idea of a char from each tier bracket.

Mbe we could do a single tournament with bottom + low tiers, then another with low+middle then middle+high, high+top or something.

Rough rules: 4 hats - Player can choose 1 top and 1 low/1 mid top and either lower or low or even 2 lower or 2 lows.

Top: Ken Yun Chun Makoto
Mid top: Yang Urien Gouki Ryu Oro Dudley
Lower mid: Ibuki Elena Necro Alex
Low: Q Sean Twelve Remy Hugo

If the player gets what is considered his main, he chooses again.

If a player is known to have 2 mains, some random guy (me) chooses which out of the 2 he cannot use lol

1 Question: is the characters we choose the only characters we're allowed to use throughout the season if it proves successful?
