Always ready for a Pokémon battle, whenever Shawn sees another trainer it is the first thing that comes to his mind is a challenge. He prefers to travel alone, because he is in a hurry to get first to every Pokémon gym, and companions would only slow him down. Shawn is afraid of being weak and by showing this he tries to defeat everyone else. He thinks others think they are much better than him; "they think they are something" is a common thought when Shawn sees other people showing their skills. Maybe there is a part of him that really wants friends, but he is too tough to show that part of himself. When he sees others giving friendly hugs he thinks them stupid and childish, but maybe he is jealous. It is hard to tell how Shawn really feels.
History:
Shawn is the descendant of George Reed, the most famous inventor of the 1800's. Many people don't know that since his parents died after he was born. He lived his life mostly in orphanages. While at the orphanages, he was often alone. He does not remember why, but others did not like him. He thinks he has no need of friends and that he can do things on his own. He has been furious when someone gets ahead of him and he himself tries to hurry up to be better than his rivals. Always, when he had seen friends gather to progress, training or going on adventure, he thinks that they think they are something, and then he wants to comepete. But one day, his aunt adopted him. When his aunt found out that he was her nephew, she started training him to take over the family company.

When he was 11, he bumped into Imani in Viridan City. They said their excuse me's and for some odd reason didn't continue walking, but just stared at each other. After introducing themselves, they starting talking. When it got into Pokémon, it seems they have somewhat different views about raising them. Then, Shawn declared that Imani was his rival. Imani, althought wished for something else, agreed. Ever since then, they been rival/friends.
