Since broken EAs just passed, you can make TRI Angoras
Right because crossing a Holland with an Angora is a GREAT idea! haha.
Why not, it's been done. Why do you think fuzzy Hollands are so prevalent now?!
Yeah it's just the size, the fur, we're talking years of work before even getting to a stage to start presenting. AFL's are a lot closer to Hollands than full sized angoras, heh. Although I"m sure they were all used to make AFL's. Anyway, yeah, I'm not looking to take on another huge project to be honest.
The Hollands, I've accompolished my goals. The HLRSC has made their stance on fixing the color standard clear, and showing since I can't get to many shows, the whole thing has lost it's appeal. It's like...I've had Hollands for 10 years. I did what I set out to do for the mostpart. And colors are becoming more and more prevalent. Whether people want to admit it or not, they are coming along very very well. And yet, this won't be recognized for at least ten more years at this point.
I'm looking to decrease the number of animals I have, and I want the fun back. I've gotten into crocheting, and I love the angora yarn I buy from a breeder in Ohio. I guess I just would like some working angoras that if I feel the urge and have the time to get out to a show, I can, but I want to be a hobby breeder not a show breeder, if that makes sense. I'm just sorta, done and over with the scene, I guess. *shrugs*

Well guys I did it!!
I emailed the breeder in Ohio that I'm in contact with for yarn already about getting some French Angoras. One or two. Thinking two. Buck and a doe. French seem to be a good one as the guard hairs should keep grooming down to a minimum (from the sounds of it they won't require too much more than what I gave my fuzzies when I had those, except size wise take longer)
So...any angora breeders here...QUESTIONS
1) What are your favorite lines? I have a sweet awesome breeder picked out already - hopefully she has some - but I'm still curious as to what "the" lines are in this breed.
2) Sooooo many points on fur. I know it must be a feel thing, but in so many words, how would you describe good vs bad fur?
3) Spinners. Any way to make one at home? Or something? I don't want a huge wheel. I see a "drop spindle" - would that work?

There are some good French Angoras breeders here in Ohio, they are very, very helpful. I would start with Lisa Rodenfels @ Somerhill Farms-she is all about fiber... http://www.somerhillfarm.com/ If she doesn't have something she always knows someone who does!!
As for wool that's something you have to feel...French wool is easier to care for. A well bred french angora would't be anymore difficult to care for than a fuzzy lop just more of it to care for =)
Drop spindles work great you can just pluck and spin right off the buns...

Lisa is who I found. I've been buying yarn from her - got some back in August and then just got some more, and I'm waiting to see what she gets this week before I get even more. Stupid running out of white with 18 inches left to go on my scarf. >_< She's very nice and she's been helpful too. Now she just needs to check her email...*waits impatiently*
