jae won listened carefully and intently as poppy told him what to say. his heart was racing at the prospect of going to talk to in hwan, but he knew she was right. he had to talk to him. he had to tell him how he felt, because this was tearing him apart and it was time he did something about it.

he still didn’t like the idea of disappointing his parents, but everything that the woman before him was saying was calming him down considerably. she was right, his parents loved him, and he knew that. and yes, he’d be heartbroken if they really were as upset as he was expecting them to be, but he had to believe that it would be okay. in hwan liked him at one point, too, after all. everything was going to be fine.

jae won was so nervous and still pretty scared but he suddenly felt so much happier than he had before. overcome with gratitude, he flung himself at poppy and hugged her tight. "thank you so much, noona," he said, tears threatening to spill from his eyes again. "you’re completely right. i…i’m gonna go talk to him. i’m still scared, but i have to do it. i have to tell him that i love him and i want to be with him."

saying those words out loud, even if only to poppy, made the butterflies in his stomach go crazy and sent a wave of exhilaration through him. blushing, he let go of poppy and stood up, biting his lip. "…do you think it’d be weird if i just went to his room and knocked on the door? or should i call him and ask him to meet me somewhere? or should i just…wait until tomorrow when i see him in the halls? i’m so nervous…" jae won had never confessed to anyone before and he didn’t know how to go about doing this. but he had already made the decision. this needed to be done.

tag: jae won notes: poppy can’t believe their children end up marrying each other

Poppy seriously wanted to cry. She had never felt so happy for Jae Won in her life, and she honestly couldn’t believe that he was actually doing something he wanted for once. She knew he was worried about disappointing his parents, all kids worried about that, but Jae Won had been too preoccupied with making everyone else happy for the past nineteen years of his life, so it was about time he did something for himself. She never really had to worry about upsetting her parents when she was growing up. All her mom wanted her to be was a dancer, and that’s exactly what Poppy was. She loved dancing, and wouldn’t trade her job for anything. Smiling ridiculously big when he hugged her, Poppy wiped her eyes, and hugged him back just as tightly. “You’re welcome, Jae Won, but I really didn’t do too much.” She let go of him when he did, and stood up at the same time too. Shaking her head furiously she answered his question. “Go. Go now. If you wait until tomorrow you’ll have second thoughts, and if you wait until you see him in the hall you might worry about other people seeing you. Just go Jae Won.”

jae won still couldn’t really believe what he was about to go do but he didn’t care. he nodded vigorously when poppy told him to just go, and gave her one last quick hug, just because. "o-okay," he said, biting his lip again. he tended to do that when he was nervous. "i’ll just go over there now then…i hope he’s not in class…" he scratched the back of his head nervously. if in hwan wasn’t there, he didn’t know what he would do. he was probably the most confident and prepared he would ever be at this moment, and if he didn’t get a chance to say what he felt right now then he would most likely never say it. poppy was, once again, right – it had to be done as soon as possible, before he got cold feet.

"thanks again, noona," jae won said as he walked slowly towards the door to her office. he knew she said she didn’t do much, but really, he couldn’t express his gratitude towards her enough. she had made him see what he had been missing all this time, and without the extra push from her he would never be doing this right now. he needed her, and he was glad she was always there for him. "well...wish me luck!" he said. he let out a nervous laugh before turning and walking out the door, away from poppy’s office and towards the boy he loved.
