hyun bae walked through the aisles of bookshelves in the library in search of a few copies of hamlet that he could give to his class. he always found it annoying whenever the school board gave him, say, ten copies of a script or a play and then expected him to somehow distribute that across all of his students. what were they, stupid? he certainly had more than ten students, and while he didn’t usually assign them all the same monologues or anything like that, it would have been nice to be given the materials necessary for class without having to go looking for them himself. sighing, the young professor searched the shelves, having a much tougher time than he thought possible locating the famous play.
he was about to give up when he spotted the title – but it wasn’t on the shelf, where he’d been looking. it was in someone’s hand, that of a young girl, who sat at a nearby table reading avidly. hyun bae grinned and walked over to her, prepared to ask her where she had found the book she was holding, but all of that was lost when he noticed how cute she was. well, hamlet could wait. first he had to find out who this pretty young thing was and why he’d never seen her before.
”doubt thou the stars are fire, doubt that the sun doth move, doubt truth to be a liar, but never doubt thy love,” he recited, a cheeky grin on his face as he did so. he was certain that this girl, whoever she was, wasn’t a drama student. but obviously, if she was reading shakespeare in her free time, she must’ve been a pretty cool person.
hyun bae was about to ask her what her name was when she just got up and sneered at him before leaving. well then. sighing, the young man took a seat in the chair she had just vacated and looked around. it wasn’t until his eyes settled on her that he was even aware that his sister was there, a mere ten feet away, sitting at another table. he frowned – ga eun had never been one of his favorite people. she was a brat, and quite honestly, he thought she was a bit useless. he tried to pretend not to see her but they had already made eye contact, so he settled on just rolling his eyes before looking away.

Let the rain wash away all the pain of yesterday
if ga eun could hate just one thing in the world (that wasn't her family), it would be study. more specifically - ancient history. she was scoring low in the class, and even though her grades in other classes weren't too bad, ga eun preferred to keep her academics on par with each other (maybe even beating a brother or two while she was at it). so here she was, stuck in the library until her ancient history assignment on the ancient greeks was finished. not an ideal place for her to be - definitely not where she wanted to be, but it wasn't like she had a choice in the matter or anything.
pulling down the school blouse awkwardly, ga eun shifted in her seat, hating the way the wood and metal dug into her legs. it was now too warm to wear tights under her skirt, so she had gone with the knee high socks - obviously not a good choice if she was to be spending all afternoon in a cold metal library chair. skimming over the pages of an disgustingly old and musty book, she tried not to let her eyes droop, cursing herself inwardly for not having an energy drink or a caramel latte before even stepping foot into this silent hell hole.
slamming the giant, dusty old book shut after a long while, ga eun let out a growl of annoyance. she felt her nose tickle as she grimaced, and covered her mouth as she sneezed loudly. "fuck!" cursing the dust from the books, ga eun returned a glare to the librarian who had given her a dirty look upon hearing the swear word. she let her head flop into her hands, pushing the musty book away. "that doesn't explain anything about the ancient greeks - how the hell am i meant to pass ancient history? she grumbled to herself lowly, picking up another musty old book from the stack. but she froze as a familiar (and disgustingly unwelcome) voice penetrated her ears.
oh god. she had to deal with this school already, so why one of her big brothers had decided to get a job here was beyond her. the guy was more dramatic than hollywood itself (lol ucwidt?), and it didnt help that he chased after every pretty thing in a skirt - student or teacher didnt seem to matter to him. her body immediately stiffened, and her head turned of its own accord, unwillingly meeting eyes with her brother. her gaze was one of deadly loathing - and i can tell you, if looks could kill, she would have murdered lee hyun bae multiple times by now. subtly, she gave him a snarky, bitchy grin, before giving him the finger, subtly hiding it behind her other arm, so that only he could see - a silent "fuck you" to one of the members of her family that she one day planned to be better than.
TAG: LEE HYUN BAE, NOTES: NO WORRIES HAHA, MINES PROLLY BAD TOO.
hyun bae had never really been too fond of his family. his parents were okay, but they played favorites, which led to all of the lee children trying to climb over each other to be the best. personally, hyun bae thought it was stupid how he and his brothers (and alright, his sister too) felt the need to compete so fiercely with each other. hyun bae already thought he was the best, so there was no reason for him to get worked up over surpassing his brothers. but he did keep a close eye on them, just to make sure they weren’t catching up. not that they ever would. it was just…you know…in case.
while he routinely checked up on the other male lees, hyun bae rarely paid mind to the sole daughter of the family, ga eun. which was ironic, because she was the closest to him at all times of the day as a student of spaa. when he had taken the job at this school, it had slipped his mind that his little sister attended it, because he rarely thought of her at all and had honestly sort of forgotten that she existed. by the time he remembered, it was too late to find a new place to work, and anyway, he could deal with it. he knew that his presence at spaa bothered ga eun more than ga eun’s presence there bothered him, and that gave him a sort of sick sense of satisfaction. although she wasn’t a threat, she was still in the game, and it pleased hyun bae to know that his status as a professor at her high school was hurting her chances of winning.
he was planning on just ignoring her and going back to his office to play computer games or something, but then she gave him that bitch glare. he was no stranger to these, but for some reason, today it elicited more of a reaction in him. he wasn’t angry – more like amused – but still. anyway, he’d had a boring day. might as well make it more interesting.
he stood up and walked over to his sister, eyeing the book she had in her hands as he did so. "greek history, eh?" he asked, his tone more resembling mockery than an actual question. "how’s my dearest dongsaeng doing today? you still haven’t flunked out?"

family life for ga eun had never been great. even being their only daughter out of five children, and also the youngest, she had never been spoiled or pampered. instead, she was neglected and pushed aside, her mother and father thinking that her brothers were the important ones of the lee clan. there was at least a ten year age gap between lee ga eun and her oldest brother, and she only often saw him once every six months or so when he actually came home to brag to their father about what million dollar deal he had closed recently. lee ga eun wouldn't care so much if her brothers treated her with the respect normal brothers would treat their sisters, but her family was different. they were dysfunctional, fighting amongst each other for the praise of their parents was all they ever did. so lee ga eun decided she'd fly under the radar and become a famous celebrity personality. she was happy at her school, the seoul private arts academy, until one of her brothers started working there. and then everything went wrong.
her personality almost changed overnight. she became colder, heartless even, and didnt hesitate to bring anyone down who was in her way. she knew she wasn't acknowledged in her parents eyes as the golden child - they always assumed her brothers would be better than she and that all she would do was shop and spend their money. that was far from the truth. ga eun hated their money. she only spent it on trivial things to piss off her parents. so she studied day and night, attempting to get good grades, where one day she would prove to them all that she was worthy of being the best. she would be the best - no matter what it took. she would work herself to death if that was what it took.
her lip automatically curled into an upwards snarl as she heard the disgustingly slimy voice of lee hyun bae. she didnt look at him, instead she concentrated on her study. it was a while after he asked the question of flunking out did she snicker, and look up at him with a smile that was more conniving and bitchy than normal. "funny, but no." she replied, a catty tone to her voice. "in fact, i'm actually here because greek mythology interests me and i'd like to have a perfect GPA to show the parents when i beat your ass." she smiled, the bitchiness that was her armor exuding from every part of her. "hows sleeping with your students going? caught any STDs from them yet?"

hyun bae scoffed as the creature that was his little sister announced her plans of surpassing him. ha! yeah, right. like that was going to happen. even if she got perfect grades, that wouldn’t do anything to get the attention of their parents. he and all of his brothers had also gotten perfect grades, after all. (yes, even greasy hyun bae had school smarts.) and which one of them was a famous actor? and an esteemed (or so he liked to think) professor? it certainly wasn’t ga eun. she was such a brat. he really didn’t know how he was related to her, or to any of his brothers, either. all of the lee children were so drastically different from each other, it was no wonder they all fought so much.
hyun bae laughed out loud at her next comment, earning himself a glare from the nearby librarian. "silly ga eun," he said, chuckling. "contrary to popular belief, i don’t actually sleep with my students. i just flirt with them. it’d be wrong if i did anything else, and i’m not that much of a pig. now, the teachers on the other hand…" he shook his head and laughed again as he thought of all the hot girls on staff at this school. at the end of the day, he really did love his job.
"and what do you think i am, some kind of idiot? i’ll have you know i’m 100% clean. and what about you? …oh, that’s right, no guy would ever want to sleep with you. so you’re covered."

ga eun wished she was a black belt in taekwondo. she wished she could lay a good punch to her brothers gut right now, winding him. oh how she had dreamed of it for years. one day, she would tell herself, one day she would be better than all of them. and be the best in their parents eyes. but she was the weak one, the unintelligent one. to her parents, ga eun was just the pretty face. she was the dancer, the acrobat. but nothing more. all looks and no brain according to her parents. but they were ever so wrong. she may not be book smart, but lee ga eun certainly had a conniving mind.
inside, she absolutely seethed at lee hyun baes words. she showed none of that emotion on her face, and instead shoved a sickly sweet, yet bitchy as can be, smile on her lips. she laughed softly, running a hand through her hair, and slamming her book shut all of a sudden, her eyes gleaming with an emotion unknown to mankind. "aww, you sure, oppa?" she asked, adding a little bit of extra fake sweetness to the word she rarely used. none of her brothers had the right to be called oppa, so she usually called them that as an insult. "because i heard park lee ah talking the other day to her cronies about how you fucked her so hard, and in her words, she came about four times." this of course, was a made up lie, but one thing ga eun was fantastic at was lying. she always was.
"you've got such a mouth on you, oppa. maybe soap would be the perfect mouthwash? mama would hate to hear you say things like that." she added, tearing her gaze away from him to check out her nails. "and thats actually a lie - because i do have a boyfriend right now. not like you'd pay attention to that or anything." she added, looking back up to him with a fierce gaze. "but you know what? relationships are unnecessary, when all of my energy will go into crushing you and the other three." ga eun stood up, coming up to hyun baes nose. she looked up at him with an intimidating stare, standing as close as she could to try and get him uncomfortable. "watch your back, because who knows whats gonna happen out there." she said, a malice-filled grin on her face.

even though he absolutely hated his sister, hyun bae was so glad he had gone over to talk to her. he was so amused. the young man chuckled loudly once again as she continued to taunt him. did she really think saying something like that would upset him? if anything, it just made his ego bigger.
"well, little miss park lee ah was lying, but there’s no such thing as bad press. and i’m flattered that she would expect me to be that good," he said, smirking. "which i am, by the way. not that you need to know that."
he chuckled some more when she told him to clean out his mouth. she was one to talk. she was eighteen and swearing like a sailor, he should be the one telling her to watch her language. but he didn’t care how she spoke. her vulgarity suited her. she was disgusting and the way she spoke was disgusting. it was very fitting.
his eyes widened as she mentioned a boyfriend…did she really have one? hyun bae couldn’t imagine what kind of idiot would ever date lee ga eun, but whoever it was must have been pretty desperate. he pitied whatever poor soul had been taken in by his sister, because not only was she bratty and bossy, but she also wasn’t even that pretty. why in the world would anyone ever want to date her?
hyun bae rolled his eyes at ga eun. her threats had no effect on him. he knew they didn’t really mean anything. she would never actually surpass him, no matter how hard she tried. "you just keep telling yourself that, sweetie," he said sardonically. "i’m sure you and your imaginary boyfriend will achieve great things if you just believe."
