Welcome to Darkemouth
Located in Maine, the city sits on a medium sized natural harbour. City & suburbs are home to roughly 116,254 beings, of which around 41,432 are not human.
MOST humans have no idea that supernaturals are real, let alone their neighbours etc.

Welcome to
Staff & members are happy to help should you have any questions, please post via this --> link <-- .

We're a no pressure site, RP-ing should be fun not a chore, as such we occasionally have quiet periods due to 'real life' needing to take precedence but you can be sure people will play when they can.

These guidelines are in place to ensure that all members feel comfortable on site and that they have fun. Most are common sense and common courtesy we just type them up so that everyone is on the same page as to what those on this site see as such.

The main rule is, have fun!

Your account

Separate accounts for those 16+
These must give a character's first and last names, properly capitalised and spaced.

Separate character accounts are needed for each character aged 16+.

Those under 16 can share an account with siblings (by birth or adoption) if they are of the same type. I.E Jess' birth children are half human, her adopted are full lupan, so her birth children under 16 can share a bio and her adopted children can share another bio. -- Please see shared accounts.

Note: No child under the age of 8 will be approved without a parent or guardian in play.

Note 2: Admin / mod accounts are NOT character names. -- This is to make them easy to distinguish. -- Staff will switch to their 'staff account' for staff related duties. -- See below for the other types that are NOT character names

Shared accounts

These are ONLY for those under 16, where they share a parent and type.

I.E Jess' birth children are on one account and her adopted under 16 year olds another, because the father of Jess' birth children was human making them hybrids, whereas her adopted children are full Lupan.

Please title such accounts like this: Rousseau-Duval kids. -- should they have different types, add 1, 2 etc afterwards.

Multi accounts for ease of posting multiple characters in one RP post

If you play more than one character over the age of 2, then you WILL need a multi character account for use when they're in the same thread. It saves you having to switch accounts and lets others know you're playing more than one person.

Please name this account using the following your on site nickname's characters.

Veritas' mixed account for example is: Blake's Characters.

Names
Please check out the taken names threads before you choose your character name.

We prefer not to have non related people with the same surname unless its very common, like Smith or Jones, within reason.

Common first names can be duplicated within reason, but those that are less common really should not be, so please bear that in mind when naming your character. smile.gif

Note: We are sympathetic to bringing onto site characters played elsewhere so will take that into account.

Graphics / Signatures
No nudity -- scantily clad is fine.
Avatars to be no more than 100 x 100
Banners to be no more than 500 x 300
Tables to be no more than 500 high x 600 wide*
Lines of text = no more than 4
Lines of pets = no more than 1
NO cartoon or anime for avatars.

Note* if you have a table please do NOT have a banner or any lines of text or pets, that takes up to much space. smile.gif

Face Claims
Avatars / play by claims only come into affect once a bio has been approved. Please check this area for those already in use on the site. >> click.

Note: If the face you want is waiting to be approved, then please choose another.

New Members
Please post a profile / bio within one week of joining.
Once approved, please post an in character post within a month.

Failure to do so will result in account deletion / character retirement.

Note: We're flexible, just contact Veritas and say you need more time and you'll get it. smile.gif

Characters -- amounts allowed
For the below guidelines, under 16s do not count as a character if they have a parent / guardian in play.

Members & Staff need to have posted in character with their last character created before they can post a new character profile.

Members can have 6 characters to start with, then 1 extra character for every 80 IC post made across their accounts. -- So a member with 160 posts can have 8 characters; a member with 400 posts can have 11 characters and so on.

Staff are allowed more, to aid in giving members lots of choice for play.

Moderators / Advertising = 10 main characters to start with, then 1 extra per 80 posts.

Admins = 16 main characters to start with, then 1 extra per 80 posts. -- Start of the site Admins are allowed unlimited numbers and to ignore the 'play before post next' rule, -- Such leeway is only given if characters are posted before the official opening. -- This is to give members more choice of characters to play with.

Note: You do NOT have to have a minimum of 6, if you prefer only one, then that's fine. smile.gif

Character -- Bio / Profile

This MUST be filled in and accepted before you start playing for EACH character.

You MUST start posting in character with your newest character before you can have the next accepted. 1 post works for this rule. smile.gif

Note: Please always list any important relationship with either canon or played characters on site. I.e on a combined Marvel / DC site a charrie could have this.... Tammy's ex list included the likes of Bruce Wayne, Tony Stark and Oliver Queen, none of these relationships lasted for longer than two weeks...

If you only get an idea for a past relationship while actually playing the character, please get the okay from an admin if a canon (owned or not), and the owner if the character is played. (canon or not).

Players (& Staff) HAVE the right to refuse permission for character inclusion in your characters history etc.

Activity level / Sabbatical status
Please be aware that we periodically delete inactive accounts and archive the associated threads. This will be done to free up face claims and generally tidy up the site by removing unneeded threads.

To stop your account being deleted, see below.

We have a 'cryo' area on the site for characters that are not currently wanted, but are not being retired. This area is also used by members who need to take a sabbatical from the site.

Those wishing to take a sabbatical (aka be away for longer than a month), need to contact Veritas, so she can sort out the admin side... noting on the 'real life affecting play' list in the absence section and moving character profiles to the cryo section.

Going on an official sabbatical, will mean that your account does not get deleted in purges of 'dead' accounts.

Threads

Word count
We do NOT have a minimum word count.

We know that quantity does not equal quality. We would rather have short posts, be they a rarity or standard for those posting, that keep a thread moving than members to feel pressured to post a certain length.

Titles
Please do not use symbols at the start, i.e -//Dinner for Two\\- should just be Dinner for two.

Please use capitals correctly, i.e DiNnEr FoR TwO should be Dinner for two

The first helps with locating archived threads that are sorted alphabetically, the second just looks better.

Thread information
To aid in staff being able to quickly restore an archived thread to its former place, please use the below format each time you start an In Character thread... it also helps people posting to know at a glance things like time of day... why that's been included. smile.gif

Template:
CODE

[b]The place:[/b] i.e Joe's Diner -- Downtown -- Old Haven
[b]The month:[/b] Helpful since threads can take a while, but the board can move on to a different month before a thread is done.
[b]The time: [/b] Useful to know if its 9am or 9pm..
[b]The day:[/b] Something as basic as weekday or weekend is very helpful.
[hr][hr]

Paragraph length
This site is not about perfect composition, but about being able to easily read posts. With that in mind, please do not exceed 12 lines of type per paragraph. It's a lot easier to read if they're spaced out into smaller blocks of type.

General

I'm sure we all know these from other sites, they're all pretty standard, but for those new to role playing sites, here they are...

Note: Due to their nature, ignoring the guidelines below will result in official warnings, be they 'verbal' and or added to a members warning count and, if need be, sanctions against a members account/s.

On very rare occasions a member may be banned from the board (and c-box).

Staff member's word is final.
We will offer compromises where we can, but if we say no, we mean no.

PG-13
Unless in the password protected area.

No obvious flaming.

No OOC prejudice

No God-Modding / Power playing.
Note: If you are 'god modding' with the other person's permission, then the player needs to note in their post, before you do your post that will involve this, that they have given permission, i.e ((I've okayed John Doe knocking my character out.))

Always gain plotline permission with the person you want to involve in the thread

All players have the right of refusal for plotlines, an invite to thread is just that, an invitation.

No excessive swearing
The Rated area more is allowed, but even there too much just detracts from the post.

If your character really needs to use a string of swear words, then simply use something like this: 'he let out a string of expletives after he hit his thumb with the hammer'...
