Husband appeals for wife's return Saturday, January 16, 2010 By DOUG AUER ADVANCE STAFF WRITER STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A South Beach husband is imploring his wife to come home to him and her children after she disappeared almost two weeks ago. Sylvia Cuttitta, 50, has been missing since Jan. 3 and was last seen about 2 a.m. at her Capodanno Boulevard home. She left without any identification, money, credit cards or wallet. "Your husband and your children miss you and want you home, safe and sound," said Nunzio Cuttitta, the woman's husband of 21 years. The couple has two children, Michael and Christina. "If there's anybody out there that can help us, we'd appreciate it. Any little bit of information." Mrs. Cuttitta is 5 feet, 3 inches tall, 135 pounds, with long brown hair and a partially amputated nail on the middle finger of her left hand. In the weeks leading up to her disappearance, Mrs. Cuttitta had trouble sleeping, wasn't eating and seemed emotionally troubled, according to her husband. "She just hadn't been herself," he recalled. In an effort to find Mrs. Cuttitta, her family has reached out to hospitals and shelters, and has placed posters in supermarkets, banks, video stores and other businesses. Her relatives in Brooklyn also have been contacted, but no one has seen her, said Cuttitta. "We've exhausted every option," said the concerned husband. "She's never gone missing before like this." Mrs. Cuttitta liked to frequent the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Boardwalk and walk her dog. She is believed to be wearing her husband's black leather bomber-style jacket with a fur collar. In a photo taken New Year's Eve while the family was celebrating at a restaurant, Mrs. Cuttitta is smiling and appears in good spirits. Anyone with information about Ms. Cuttitta is asked to call Crime stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime stoppers Web site at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577. All calls are strictly confidential. |

Heartbreak for family of missing Staten Islander Published: Sunday, November 28, 2010, 7:18 AM Updated: Sunday, November 28, 2010, 7:18 AM John M. Annese Sylvia Cuttitta was last seen at about 2 a.m. on Jan. 3. STATEN ISLAND -- Sylvia Cuttitta's winter clothes still hang on a coat rack in her South Beach home, nearly a year after she disappeared into the night in January. "This is all my wife's stuff," her husband, Nunzio, said, pointing to a coat in the corner of the family's living room. "Everything is still hanging just where she left it. "It's not only Thanksgiving or Christmas. It's the birthdays, it's the Mother's Day or Father's Day. ... It's not just the holidays that are tough, it's every day." Mrs. Cuttitta, 50, was last seen at about 2 a.m. on Jan. 3 inside her 92 Capodanno Blvd. home. She was wearing her husband's leather bomber jacket, and left without ID or money. "She left with nothing. No money. No wallet. No ID. No keys," he said. "When I think about all these that I just mentioned about her leaving with nothing... I mean, how would she live? I keep hoping that she's in the hospital somewhere, but now finding her jacket -- she left at the coldest time of the year." She's 5-feet-3 and 135 pounds, has a medium build with long brown and/or black hair and hazel eyes. Her left middle finger is partially amputated. "Do you know that my next-door neighbor found the jacket a month later, on the beach, right behind my house?" Mr. Cuttitta said. He was heading out with his daughter to go out to eat, and they spotted the neighbor walking his dog, "and dragging what ... it looked like a bag. I told my daughter to slow down, because I wanted to say hello to him." That's when he noticed the bag was actually a jacket, soaking wet, he said. "I said, 'My God, that's my jacket!' And my daughter got out of the car, hysterical crying." Other than that, authorities have found no trace of Mrs. Cuttitta, and police are once again asking the public for help. Anyone with information about Mrs. Cuttitta is asked to call the NYPD's Crimestoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). The public also can submit their tips by logging onto the Crimestoppers Web site at www.nypdcrimestoppers.com or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577. All calls are strictly confidential. "The last time anybody spoke to her was my daughter, at about 2 o'clock in the morning," Mr. Cuttitta said. "My daughter, I don't know where she went, but she came home at 2 o'clock in the morning, and she came home, she went upstairs to her room, one flight above our bedroom. And my wife said something to the effect of, 'You're home?' And she said, 'Yeah, I'm home.' And that was the last time any of us spoke to her." Before the disappearance, he said, she hadn't been eating well and wasn't "associating with much." "She hasn't been herself for quite some time," he said. Mr. Cuttitta was reluctant to talk about how he and the couple's two college-aged children, Michael and Christina, are handling the disappearance emotionally. "We're all still in shock about the whole thing. It's tough. We don't know what to think anymore," he said. "We're just an average family that lost a wife and mother. It's the kind of thing that you hear and read on TV, but it doesn't really sink in until something happens to you." John Annese is a news reporter for the Advance.
