Jennifer Andersen disappeared three weeks ago. Police found her car last week near Rick's Boatyard Café in downtown Omaha. Lincoln Journal Star (Nebraska)
April 8, 2010 Thursday Family has few leads one month after woman, 33, disappears; Have you seen her? Jennifer Andersen Age: 33 Hair: blond Height: 5-foot-7 Weight: 110 ANDERSEN pounds Distinguishing marks: flower tattoo on ankle and salamander tattoo on toe Call Douglas County Sheriff's Office with tips at (402) 444-6000. Despite extraordinary search efforts, an Edgar family has few leads nearly a month after their daughter's disappearance. Jennifer Andersen, 33, was last seen at her Omaha apartment about 1 a.m. March 9. Investigators found her car six days later near the Missouri River. She has never before cut off contact with family and friends, said her brother, Josh Andersen. Although authorities have found no sign of foul play, the family fears the worst. "Those are the places your mind keeps going, and it worries you sick," the rural Edgar farmer said Tuesday. Within the past two weeks, loved ones have organized searches by foot and all-terrain vehicle along several miles of river. They also got help from a Texas organization that used high-tech sonar to search the river channel. The searches turned up no evidence, her brother said, so the family hired a private investigator and is trying to get certified divers to search the river. In the meantime, they are appealing for anyone who may have seen her to come forward. Jennifer Andersen grew up on the farm of her parents, Carl and Karen Andersen, near Edgar. She attended Sutton High School and Doane College in Crete. She works as a registered nurse at Methodist Hospital in Omaha. On March 9, her parents were staying with her at her apartment near 120th and Blondo streets. She had been troubled, she told them, and needed to go for a drive. She left about 1 a.m. When her parents woke the next morning, they realized she had not returned and immediately were concerned. "She's never been anyone to quit anything," Josh Andersen said. "She's never missed work. That's why it's particularly worrisome to us." Douglas County Sheriff's Lt. Mark Gentile said her car was found near Rick's Boatyard Cafe, not far from the Missouri River and close to recreational trails and the pedestrian bridge. Her purse was in the car and she left her cell phone at Her friends set up a Facebook page to share information and help organize searches. As of Tuesday, nearly 15,000 people had joined the page. her apartment. None of her credit cards or financial accounts have been used since she disappeared. Although they've ruled nothing out, authorities have found no evidence that she was attacked or abducted, Gentile said Tuesday. Her friends set up a Facebook page to share information and help organize searches. As of Tuesday, nearly 15,000 people had joined the page. "I think she touched a lot of people's lives," her brother said. "They don't want her to be out of their lives." Residents of nearby Sutton plastered missing fliers all over town, said Pam Overturf, a friend of the Andersen family. "I think everybody is anxious about the situation, and they're hoping and praying for her return," she said. http://www6.lexisnexis.com/publisher/EndUs...9468530&start=2 |

Efforts Continue To Find Woman Missing Since March
Jennifer Andersen's car found by riverfront Posted: 8:19 PM Jul 25, 2010 Thirty-three-year-old Jennifer Andersen of Omaha disappeared without a trace on March 9th, more than four months ago. Her family and friends still have not given up hope. "I think I'd just tell her we love her and we miss her and we're just ready for her to be back,” says Amanda Harrington, friends with Jennifer since college. When Amanda only had two bridesmaids in her wedding, one was her sister and the other was Jennifer. "She's a very compassionate person, very caring and she also on the other side just has this crazy sense of humor and can just make you laugh until your stomach hurts.” But behind the glowing smile was pain. Jennifer’s parents told Channel 6 News last March they had driven to Omaha from Hastings to help Jennifer deal with a bout of depression. The night she disappeared, she left a note saying she was going for a drive. That was the last time anyone saw her. "She was going through some issues at the time, but she seemed to be dealing with them and even while going through those issues, this still seemed very uncharacteristic of her,” says Amanda. Despite all the searches, the vigils and the Facebook page, the only sign of Jennifer since that night was found in the parking lot of Rick's Boatyard Café by the Missouri River. Her car was found parked there locked, the keys gone, but her purse still inside. "I would say finding her car gave me both hope and fear, little fearful of where they found it, down by the river, but hope that we at least had some lead and that's the thing we've been lacking so much of is leads." Amanda hopes her pictures and her story brings any bit of information, so one day soon she can make new pictures together with her best friend. "We're not giving up on her, she wouldn't give up on any of us and we know she's out there so we're just going to keep looking." Andersen's family and friends continue to conduct searches. They are in the process of making up new missing person fliers. There is also the Facebook page to help find Andersen that has grown to more than 2,800 followers. Anyone with information about Andersen’s disappearance is asked to call police. http://www.wowt.com/news/headlines/99207654.html?ref=654 |

Last Search For Missing Woman Jennifer Andersen disappeared in March Family, friends and volunteers gathered near Lewis and Clark Landing along the Omaha riverfront Saturday to try to find clues in the search for Jennifer Andersen, who disappeared last March. Posted: 3:55 PM Oct 9, 2010 Reporter: Nadia Singh Email Address: sixonline@wowt.com -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Last Search For Missing Woman Story 0 Comments Font Size: Family, friends and volunteers gathered near Lewis and Clark Landing along the Omaha riverfront Saturday to try to find clues in the search for Jennifer Andersen, who disappeared last March. Her car was found nearby at Rick's Boatyard Cafe. Those who joined this latest search effort came with heavy hearts and a lot of hope. “As a mother I can't rest knowing that she's out there, she's somewhere,” said Karen Andersen. ADVERTISEMENT Karen has been looking for her daughter since March. Jennifer’s bizarre disappearance spurred many searches, but Saturday morning marked what the family called the final search, hoping for one clue to give everyone closure. Karen held back tears as she led a prayer. “We ask that you keep these individuals safe as they go out and search." The search parties began their routes around the Missouri River and Lewis and Clark Landing, where Jennifer was reportedly last seen. Those closest to her still believe she'll be found. “We're not giving up on you and we love you and we miss you and we are ready to create great memories with you going forward, so come home to us,” said Amanda Harrington, Jennifer’s best friend. Coming home is a comforting notion, one that Jennifer's mother knows may or may not be a reality, yet she still remains positive. “Of course we’d rather not find evidence that she's been in the water because that means that she's gone, but, we have hope.” More than 100 volunteers joined in the effort. The United States ATV Search and Rescue Team went along with seven search dogs aiding in the search. Team Waters sonar was also involved to aid with underwater imaging. Anyone with information about Jennifer’s disappearance is asked to call the Douglas County Sheriff's Department at 444-6627. http://www.wowt.com/news/headlines/Last_Se...04.html?ref=904 |

7 Months Later, Search for Jennifer Andersen Continues Omaha, NE - It's been 7 months to the date since 33-year-old Jennifer Andersen went missing. She was a nurse at Methodist Hospital in Omaha who went missing March 9. In the 7 months, there have been numerous search efforts, but still no sign of the missing woman. Her family and friends still holding on to hope, call in national search and rescue teams for a final search Saturday. ATVs cruising along the river, Sonar rescue combing the waters, search dogs along the river bank, and more than 100 volunteers canvassing the city in a final search for Andersen Saturday. A show of support to her family as all rescue teams and volunteers start their search at Rick's Boatyard Cafe Saturday morning. "(It's been) A nightmare," said Karen Andersen, Jennifer's mother. "As parents your kids are the most important things in the world to you and to have her disappear, it's just been awful." 7 months-that's how long it's been since Karen Andersen talked to her daughter, telling her 'goodnight.' "The next morning we woke up and she was gone," Karen said. Jennifer planned to move to Arkansas in May, where her boyfriend lives. Her mom says she became overwhelmed with the life changes of moving, searching for a new job, and leaving her family and friends behind. So, her parents, from Edgar, NE, came to Omaha as a show of support. "While we were asleep in the bedroom, she was on the sofa, she got up and left in the middle of the night," Karen remembers. Karen and her husband woke up about 7:30 the next morning to find her cell phone and a note. "She left a note saying 'I had to go for a drive,'" Karen said. 5 days after she went missing, her car showed up at Rick's Boatyard Cafe, but she's nowhere to be found. Today, friends and complete strangers, all touched by her story, remain hopeful, searching again. "Just being down here you can feel the importance of just finding some answers," said Casey Smith, a volunteer. "We have hope. Hope that she's still alive somewhere and we can get her back home because we all just miss her so much," said Karen. Andersen was last seen March 9 wearing a gray jacket and jeans. She's 33-years-old, 5'7", 115 pounds with blonde hair. If you have any information, call the Douglas County Sheriff at 444-6000. Reported by Hannah Pickett, hpickett@action3news.com |

Published Saturday October 9, 2010 River searched for missing nurse By Rick Ruggles WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER « Metro/RegionRSS SHARE DiggNewsvinedel.icio.usRedditFacebookTwitterPRINT EMAIL Sunlight poured out of the wide blue sky and gleamed off the river that might hold Karen Andersen's daughter. AdvertisingAndersen thanked the people who came Saturday to the Missouri River to look for some clue, any trace, of Jennifer Andersen, 33, who has been missing since March 9. The mother prayed aloud that the searchers stayed safe and that their senses remained keen. She expressed appreciation for the glorious fall day. Then more than 50 people from the Edgar, Neb., area, where Jennifer grew up, and Omaha, where Jennifer worked as a registered nurse, spread out on both sides of the river. “It's heart-warming to have her friends and even strangers show up to help look for her,” the mother said. They looked for the young woman's charcoal gray jacket and her dark leggings. They looked for her silver ring and her keychain containing a black-and-white lizard flashlight. What they know is that Jennifer Andersen had been upset the night before she disappeared, and her parents had driven from their Edgar farm to be with her. The next morning she was gone. Her car was eventually found near Rick's Cafe Boatyard on the riverfront. “It's hard to live without knowing,” Karen Andersen said. Previous searches have turned up nothing. A private investigator hired by the Andersens said Saturday that the Douglas County Sheriff's Office suspects no foul play. And so friends and strangers turned out to search. They used boats and dogs and mainly their own legs and eyes to look along the riverbank. They went south and north of the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge. The American Red Cross brought bottles of water. Numerous Metropolitan Community College students helped search. Family members handed out T-shirts that read: “Bring Jen Home. Search. Pray. Believe.” As the search wound down and the volunteers returned, the situation remained unchanged. It leaves a lot of emptiness. Karen Andersen said it's easy for others to say it's time to give up. She just wants some tangible evidence that will indicate what happened to her daughter. “And as a mother, how do you quit?” Contact the writer: 444-1123, rick.ruggles@owh.com |

Volunteers Search For Jennifer Andersen Area Woman Missing For 7 Months POSTED: 2:34 pm CDT October 9, 2010 UPDATED: 2:45 pm CDT October 9, 2010 Email Print Comments (7) Jennifer L. Andersen OMAHA, Neb. -- Seven months after Jennifer Andersen was last seen near 120th and Blondo streets in Omaha, people with all-terrain vehicles and boats conducted a new search along the Missouri River, near where her car was found. "We haven't quit," said Jennifer's mother, Karen Andersen. "We aren't going to quit. We can't, until we find her or have some clue as to what has happened to her." Dozens of volunteers came out to help the family get answers and possible closure. "That is why we are here today," said Kristal Baker, the family's private detective. "There have been no clues, no leads of any kind." She said that the people spending a few hours searching on Saturday might find something that previous searches have missed. "We've given them a list of items to give them to the police and see what we can do," Baker said. Andersen said she just wants the uncertainty to end. "Just for some peace of mind," she said. "As a mother, I'll never give up looking and praying and hoping to have Jennifer back home." Baker said the family may never know, but everyone will go to their graves trying to find Andersen, and she's counting on the support of friends and strangers as they try to find out the truth. She said the support from strangers has been amazing, from truckers who carry her missing-persons poster to people who just pray. |
