Clearwater - Woman and dog doused with gas and set on fire File #2008-1021 2008-08-03 08:21 PDT Woman and dog doused with gas and set on fire On Aug 1, around 6:45 pm Clearwater RCMP were contacted through BC Ambulance after a caller requested assistance for his mother who had been on fire. Police attended and found a 78 year old woman had sustained severe burns to her body. She was treated by police and BC Ambulance and transported to Clearwater Hospital. The victim’s son was arrested and taken into custody. Even though the fire was out by the time police arrived the Blackpool (near Clearwater) Fire Dept attended and assisted. In addition to the woman being on fire a small dog was also doused with gas and set on fire. The dog sustained considerable injury and had to be put down. The 51 year old male went before a Justice of the Peace on Aug 2 facing charges of attempted murder and cruelty to animals. He is being held in custody and will appear in Kamloops Court Tuesday Aug 5. The woman is currently in critical condition at Vancouver General Hospital. She has 2nd and 3rd degree burns to 40-50% of her body. Please note Cst Newel will only be available for media inquires until 4:00 pm Aug 3. Released by: Cst.
