Title: Making the Choice

Here at Perpetua your characters have a choice of either joining the Flight, or the Perpetua Guardians. Later on, other options may be available, but for now, here is a breakdown of the two choices. Please note that certain plots will only be available to one faction or the other, and some will involve both plots, and it will be incredibly hard to change from one faction to another.

In the Flight, all activities are centered around the Court you belong to, and the Queen you serve. Riders and Handlers are treated like minor Gods, though they practice and train daily, often going out on scouting missions and battles to defend the Flight's home, though they always seek to rise higher in ranks. The standing Army of the Flight is made up of able-bodied people who were, for one reason or another, rejected by either dragons or whers, and a support 'staff' of holders, slaves, and servants make up the bulk of the weyr.

The Flight's Weyr is located near former Southern Boll Hold, a temperate zone with a gorgeous climate and surroundings. It has a tropical climate, with four distinct seasons, and has many various crops, animals, and other resources at its disposal.

It is not a bad life, for many, and if successful at what you do, a Rider or Handler can do very well for themselves, and even the poorest can eke out an existence where they are safe and protected. Though the Guardians consider the Flight to be evil, everything they stand against, is that really true? Or is becoming a part of the Flight the one and only way to live, nowadays?

THE GUARDIANS

At Perpetua Weyr, home of the Guardians, everything is geared to fighting back against the Flight and those they deem the 'oppressors' of Pern. This Weyr operates in identical manner to old-style weyrs, with much more give and take between the higher and lower ranks, and the holders working directly alongside with the riders and handlers, rather than serving beneath them. Small, it takes a lot of effort simply to survive, and everything done here must be done in secrecy and stealth.

Perpetua Weyr is located in the icy North-West coast where the glaciers meet the land, and make further northward travel almost impossible. It has a shorter summer and longer winter, though both tend to be mild, allowing for a variety of crop and animal species. The Weyr is built in a chain of high mountains located only a short distance from the sea.

At Perpetua, one should expect to have a hardier, grittier life. Its not the glamorous life or a rider or handler of the Flight, or even the protected, safe, life of a Flight Holder or servant, but it is one where they are free, free to act out against the weyrwoman if her actions are deemed wrong, free to speak against rules without fear of immediate death. But are the Guardians only foolish savages, railing against the new Rule of the Flight, or do they truly have a case, and can they really change the world?
