Choosing a parrot is a lifetime commitment.
Yes, they are beauitful, intelligent, funny and playful, but like any pets, parrots require responsibilty, time and patience.

The prices to keep a parrot aren't cheap, with some large parrots costing $1000+ alone. (But are sure worth the money. :P ) Parrots like to chew, and for their physical and mental wellbeing and stimilation, they need something to keep them occupied. The larger the parrot, the larger and more expensive toys. Cages are also expensive ranging from at $250+ for a decent cage. Also, before you buy a parrot, consider the vet bills. If something happened could you afford to take it to the vet? These are just some of the thing you'll need to consider when buying a parrot.

Some parrots such as macaws can live to be over 100+ years old! Even if yu bought the bird at a young age, the bird would most likely outlive you! What would you do with the bird when you can no longer care for it? Parrots bond closely to their owners, and will grieve when they lose a beloved companion. Whoever takes over the bird must be caring and have an understanding of parrots.

Also consider the noise. Some parrots such as quakers and some conure species have high-pitched screeches that alot of people cannot tolerate. Before deciding on your species of parrot, consider your tolerance for noise.

One third of what you feed your bird will proberly end up on the floor, so consider the mess. Feathers, droppings, food scraps, cleaning and sweeping around the
birs area will become a daily routine. Cleaning the bottom of the cage should also be cleaned daily

Parrots NEED attention. They are social animals, and if left alone will become an untrusting, depressed animal. Excess screaming, feather plucking, and biting are all signs of a attention deprived parrot. They should be let out of their cage every day to stretch their wings and spend time foraging, and interacting.

If you can provide all of this for these wonderful creatures, than go right ahead in deciding in your parrot. They are sure worth it.
