Every fandom has weird ships, whether it's Harry/Snape in Harry Potter, Miss Patty/Jess in Gilmore Girls or even Dawn/Spike in Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

What are the weirdest ships you've heard people talking about in The Mentalist?

*cough*BurnFrye*cough*

CONGRATULATIONS!

You have found a 2013 Easter Egg. Enjoy! smile.gif

Bert and Ernie by tromana

“If I’m Bert and you're Ernie, what does that make the rest of the team?” Rigsby asked as he sipped at his coke.

“Bosco’s team doesn’t call them anything.”

“I’m not on about Bosco’s team,” Rigsby continued and he perched on the edge of Cho’s desk. “Who do you think they are?”

“Why would I think about my co-workers being anyone but who they are?”

“Oh, you know, for fun.”

Cho stopped researching the case to look at Rigsby. He’d already had enough of this game.

“Not my idea of fun. Why, who do you think they are?”

“Never mind.”

What do you mean weird? BurnFrye is a totally legitimate ship. *eyedart*

laugh.gif To define weird, I mean almost unlikely to be in the show. Ever.

Sorry BurnFrye fans... tongue.gif

Well, Tracie did mention BurnFrye once on Twitter, which I thought was pretty weird, but since that's already been said... wink.gif

I'd have to say Lisbon/Hightower is the weirdest in terms of happening on the show. I guess I can sorta see where people get that from, but yea.

I agree that people who stretched that hug scene between Lisbon and Hightower into the possibility of them being in a relationship is... somewhat far-fetched. Is that called Lightower or something? (Am I pulling that out of nowhere? It stuck out in my memory for some reason.)

You know, I haven't actually heard that much discussion about crack pairings in this fandom. What about Rigsby/Cho? xD Or Rigsby/Lisbon? (Haha, what?) But I doubt there's much of a fanbase for those (if any at all).

... And I'll just go before this thread devolves into straight crack. LaRoche/Hightower? You may brick me now.

Haha, you'll be surprised in regards to things like Rigsby/Cho...we do have a Cho/Jane topic on this forum after all.

Lightower... laugh.gif

LaRoche/Hightower? laugh.gif

I think Red John/Anyone is rather hilarious. How about some Red John/O'laughlin?

True. Actually, it's only after I mentioned that that I noticed there is something of a trend for Cho/Rigsby -- crackish or no. (Now I forget what thread it is, or who said it. But it is there!)

I totally think Lisbon/Hightower should be called Madlibs. xD Yea, it's spelled wrong, but whatever.

YES. It'll be canon someday. Just trust me. LaRoche/Hightower is my new OTP. (You believe me, right?)

O'Laughlin/RJ, hahaha. Amazing. But what would you call it? O'John? REDLAUGH. Hahahaa... wtf. xD

Omg ship names make me laugh. Most of them are so terrible (like Jisbon for example). xD

I actually do know of a couple people on Tumblr who ship Lisbon/Rigsby. One of them said their height difference is what makes them adorable. To each his/her own, I guess. :)

Oh, god, yes. Ship names are usually terrible. xD They make me laugh so hard. (Seriously, J/L is much easier to write than Jisbon.)

Lisbon/Rigsby? ... Lisby...? Rigsbon...? Now I'll be up all night wondering about the logistics of that one; thanks.

But to each their own, exactly. If people aren't annoying about it, then whatever. :D It's fandom, not academia.

*puts up hand shiftily*

I may have written a couple of things that have accidentally veered into Lisbon/Red John territory. It's unintentional, I swear.

As for ship names, I generally avoid them now. Initials or just writing the whole thing out is they way to go. tongue.gif No, really, I don't mind people who use ship names, but I just prefer to be clear about what I'm talking about... and think a lot sound terrible.

Some really are terrible...other's have a nice ring to them. To use other fandom's for example, there was Skoyd in the Aussie soap Neighbours (Sky/Boyd) which i always liked and Naomily from Skins (Naomi/Emily).

With the majority of pairings (I don't even like the word ship!) they're not that great. Though some can be funny - BurnFrye and WOW at RedLaugh... laugh.gif

For The Mentalist I don't go with portmanteaus really, I say JL or RVP and those are the only 'ships' I tend to talk about.

No, I've got nothing against people who use ship names. xD I just won't use them myself. And I do agree that some ship names can sound okay. I think I mentioned that I used to be into anime/manga; since a lot of the names are in Japanese, their names can usually be shortened easily and make very cute ship names. (Like, e.g. Tamaki/Haruhi = Tamaharu.)

But most of the time I don't use even established ship names, haha. (Or purposely screw around and change the name, just to throw people off.)

Yea, I think J/L and R/VP are the only ones I talk about, too. (Since I think I mentioned that I don't really have an OTP...?)

Also, I think Red John/Lisbon has become common enough that it's not exactly in the "total utter crack" category with things like LaRoche/O'Laughlin or Jane/Hightower.

xD

Red John/Lisbon actually appeals to me in an AU, Lisbon-is-evil scenario. If well-written, ofc. tongue.gif

RedLaugh and BurnFrye are probably my favourite portmanteaus for The Mentalist now. XD

Lisbon/Red John... I think you can argue both ways with regards to whether or not it's a weird/crackship. My personal favourite way of viewing it is where Lisbon is Red John's intended target, and Jane is a little 'diversion' for him.

And I've heard of people shipping both Jane and Lisbon with the goat from 2x19 Blood Money... whistling.gif
