"Rosmerta! Poppet, let me get that, you look rushed off your feet you poor dear." Anna soothed, gently taking the tray of drinks and insistantly setting her down in a chair as she weaved through the crowd to disperse them before returning to grab a bottle of butterbeer for herself, not really being much of a drinker herself. Seating herself daintily on a barestool with a little jump given that she was slightly shorter than the average male customer for which the stools were designed for. Striking up a conversation with Rosmerta, she enquired about her health and business as usual. Generally a social, kind person during the rare time in which she was not at work or completign paperwork at home.
Dressed, for once, in muggle clothes with loose robes over the top simply to keep her warm when she were not in the building. Her clothes flattered her figure which was far from 'perfect' but she still looked good for her age. Jeans, the hems slightly frayed as they sat over black high heeled boots. Her torso adorned in a v-neck midnight blue jumper, her favourite colour.
Work had been hectic lately, and tonight was sorely needed to calm her frayed nerves from the current situation. She couldn't help but let it get to her when she weren't in work. At least at work she could be an emotionless 'robot' almost. It was so much more difficult to errect those barriers here...

Sometimes it was good for ones overall sense of well-being for one to go to a pub after a long grueling day and kick back with a beer. Under normal circumstances, he would have chosen and off-beaten pub to frequent. A place where the people did not know him, the lights were dimmed, and the women were loose. That was the ideal setting for him, but tonight he was feeling somewhat sociable towards those of his kind. Wizards and witches of course. So after he had sent Jez home, Thomas had chosen to apparate just outside the Three Broomsticks. Hogsmeade was a place that he had not been too since he had been attending Hogwarts, and a feeling a deja vu swept over him as he stood for a moment to look around. The little wizarding town had not changed in slightest, and he smiled as he took in the sights. It was strange that he should get such enjoyment out of this, Thomas was not a person who allowed the memories of the past to effect him any. There were some circumstances, but other than that he preferred to live in the present, and never look backwards or forward.
This theory is what caused him to run head first into many confrontations without taking a moment to assess the situation first. He was reckless to his core, and perhaps it was not exactly the best idea for him to be training someone, but Jez was just like him in so many ways that it was almost strange. He considered her more like a partner than a trainee. Of course, it had only taken an extremely strange night, and a burst of temper for him to let her know of that. That night still brought a little chuckle to him, as the end result of it always seemed to amuse him.
He shook himself of his thought process and stepped through the doors of the Three Broomsticks, and scanned the crowd. His lips quirked up in the corners as he spotted a person that he recognized and wandered over in her general direction. He slid onto the stool next to her, and raised a brow as he took in her attire. "You look . . . almost human," he said with a light teasing edge to his voice. "Taking the evening off?"

"You look . . . almost human," With just a hint of a rogue smile, she cast a glance at the young Auror "I was always human dafty, it's just that work demands a lack of fun from me" she chuckled slightly before shifting to sit at an angle, hating not to be able to see who she needed to. having her back or side ot someone always made her a tad jumpy, as though she were half expecting them to throw a punch. "Taking the evening off?" his comment was met with a burst of raucous laughter as she quickly turned her vocal volume down "Yes, it's a rare evening off to let loose and relive my wilder days." she replied with a perfectly straight face, taking a sip of her beer as Rosmerta disappeared, a hand clamped over her mouth to stop the chuckles from escaping.
"So Thomas, what in hellian's name are you doing here? I wouldn't have guessed it to be your sort of haunt, I see no hookers." she joked, knowing full well he was just young but not that bad a person at heart. Admittedly, there had been a few occasions when she had had to hold herself back from cursing his paperwork into birds. Not that a repsected employee like herself would be caught doing something so childish. She simply wouldn't be caught. "Hows the whole...training thing coming along? Your trainee requested someone else yet?" she asked, absent mindedly making the coaster spin on it's axis, an old habit of hers. Well, at least she had moved on from making the other person's stool spin instead.
Everytime she encountered one of these 'young whippersnappers' she felt a pang of regret and not having made the very most of her younger years. Oh well, she would just be one of those crazy grannies who do skydiving, dragon training and spending every coin in their gringotts vault. In all honesty, the whippersnapper in question next to her, frequently rubbed her up the wrong way. No innuendo intended. She had lost count of the times at which some little thing he said or did would make her fume silently, or cause her to be overcome with the urge to reach out....and smack him right along the back of the head with a file. Oh well, if it's not rough it isn't fun. That was the phrase that had started her career, to the bemusementt of those around her. She had been a tiny girl, so dainty like a ballerina. They bet that she'd snap like a twig on her first assignment. Not true, she became detatched, like a rose, pretty to see but incredibly thorny. Very few were close to her, too many were scared to get their hands shredded

"I was always human dafty, it's just that work demands a lack of fun from me"
"It tends to do that. . . . well for other people, not for me," he flashed her a wicked grin. It was true. He always seemed to find some sort of fun in his job. Whether he was doing paperwork and jabbing at Jez, or out searching for a Death Eater. His recklessness made the entire job as an Auror just so damn fun. And in his mind, if a person did not have fun while they were at work, then it would be boring. Boring was unacceptable for him. He could never, in his life, be a boring person. He just loved life too much, and believed in seizing the moment because for all he knew it could be his last.
"Yes, it's a rare evening off to let loose and relive my wilder days."
He raised a brow as he regarded her, then quipped, "You had those?" It was a teasing sort of comment, but he said it just as calmly as she had spoken hers. He took a moment to divert his attention from her so he could order his own beer, and received it with a thanks to the one who had served it to him, and turned his gaze back to watch the woman next to him. She was an interesting study, he had to admit. But they had never gotten along very well at work. She was constantly frustrated by the utter disregard for personal safety he had for himself and others. Not to mention if she needed his paperwork for anything, he knew that must frustrate her as well. Thomas did his paperwork in short sentences that showed his dislike for doing it. At times he had also taken to doodling little pictures on the corners of the parchment, anything to annoy the superior who had to read the report later.
"So Thomas, what in hellian's name are you doing here? I wouldn't have guessed it to be your sort of haunt, I see no hookers."
The wicked grin, that seemed to come out often, flashed back onto his lips as he looked at her. "It seemed like a good day to take a break from my promiscuous ways." He lifted his beer up to his lips and took a big gulp of it and swallowed. "Besides, I have fond memories of the Leaky Cauldron from my Hogwarts days, perhaps I was feeling nostalgic." Which he did not believe to be true, Thomas never looked at the past, or the future, very often. The present was interesting enough without having to look back on something that happened before, or try to think of something that might happen later.
"Hows the whole...training thing coming along? Your trainee requested someone else yet?"
"Surprisingly. . . .no, she hasn't." He found that to be a bit surprising, and it showed on his face. Considering what had happened between the two of them, he was shocked that Jez had not just up and put in a request for a new trainer. If she transferred away from him, he honestly did not know what he would do with himself. Probably go back to what he was doing before she came along, trying to challenge death and win. But he was so used to Jez's presence in his life now, that he was not sure if he wanted her to leave it. She surprised him, challenged him, snapped at him, and above all, never looked down on his rogue ways. She was just the same as him. "She probably will eventually, though. So how's work going for you?"

"It tends to do that. . . . well for other people, not for me,"
Annabella felt a chuckle bubble up through her chest, escaping behind her hand as she set her bottle down slowly given she was shaking with laughter. Maybe not a good idea to drop it. "Hmm, are you sure you've not just been twisted and are mistaking that for still being a 'bundle of fun'?" she asked cheekily, glancing over to the group of Hogwarts professors in the corner with a raised eyebrow, recognising a few from her school days. The ones who happened to be looking a little shabby, knocking back one more beer than the rest. It showed in that that they used to be such sweet souls, the war was taking its tole on everyone it seemed.
"You had those?"
Oh how people underestimated her. What about her mature persona made it sound so insane that she had once been a young 'un herself. "Cheeky monkey. Oh yes, before I felt so bound by duty, I was out every other night, charming the bar and playing drinking games with anyone up to the challenge," she shrugged a bit "Was a bit of a tomboy actually, though I had a...feminineside. That didn't stick about too long it seems." her tone trailed off into something that resembled bitter. With due cause, the males in her life had always been friends or workmates. It was a rather peculiar thing, or so the girls at work had said.
"Besides, I have fond memories of the Leaky Cauldron from my Hogwarts days, perhaps I was feeling nostalgic."
A laugh escaped her lips as she nearly slumped onto the bar, turning fully to face him "Fond memoryies? Oh well, I suppose this was the favourite haunt for Hogwarts students. I suspect everyone has at least one fond memory of here...That for example-" she pointed out a spot in the stone above a table in the corner "That was...1979. Celebrating the idea of new careers if I remember rightly. That was me using my wand like a conductors baton after one too many fire whiskeys." she sighed happily, shaking her head slightly as if to snap herself from her chirpy reminissing.
"She probably will eventually, though. So how's work going for you?"
"Oh don't be so hard on yourself, true you are an utter arse sometimes but I'm sure you're a acceptable trainer." she commented simply with a innocent smile, gently nudging him in a joking way "Go on, why are you so sure she'll ask for someone else? From what I hear she's pretty content where she is actually." she added with a knowing look, tapping the side of her nose as the small smile returned to her lips, "Things have been, rather good actually. New partner, poor sod has been bounced around so many idiots since his partner went missing. A pretty successful trip to Edinburgh,..and an interogation appointment tomorrow." she added, sounded so evily happy about the prospect of making someone shake in their seat till the cracked and told her what she wanted to know. "So, appart from the chicky you're working with, any new news from thw work world of Mr I'm-A-Nutter-With-A-Complete-Disregard-For-Safety-And-Paperwork?"

"Hmm, are you sure you've not just been twisted and are mistaking that for still being a 'bundle of fun'?"
It was entirely possible. It was not to far of a stretch to think that he had gotten so twisted that everything he did and went through was fun for him because he could not feel anything else. He was shut down from the rest of the world, choosing to disassociate himself from life, yet he fought for it. How fucked up was that? Then again, Thomas did alot of things that were fucked up. Getting his lover killed was one, fucking his trainee was another. He supposed there was little else in this world that he could fuck up at, but if there was, he would certainly manage it. Thomas lifted the glass to his lips, and took another drink, pausing long enough to savour the taste before he swallowed the liquid.
"Was a bit of a tomboy actually, though I had a...feminine side. That didn't stick about too long it seems."
Thomas returned his gaze to her, and studied her for a moment. If he did not know any better she almost sounded bitter about the fact that she had lost the femonine part of herself. "Who wants a girly girl anyway?" he asked, not really seeking an answer. He took large gulp before he asked for another beer. He listened as she reminiced about past times, but made no comment. Thomas was never one to nostaligic about anything. He used his past to drive him forward, to push through the odds and get what he needed out of life. Perhaps her earlier comment was, indeed, correct. He was twisted.
"Go on, why are you so sure she'll ask for someone else? From what I hear she's pretty content where she is actually."
He would never betray Jez by telling the truth of the reason why he figured she would ask for a new trainer. He respected her too much, so he merely shrugged noncommittedly at Annabella's question and took another drink. He was silent while she rambled on about work, about having an interogation appointment tomorrow, and he smiled at that. It was always fun to interogate a person and watch for the little signs that said the person was nervous. The faint bead of sweat, or the unsure looks.
"So, appart from the chicky you're working with, any new news from thw work world of Mr I'm-A-Nutter-With-A-Complete-Disregard-For-Safety-And-Paperwork?"
Thomas grinned broadly at the nickname, it suited him well didn't it? "Oh same old, kicking bad guy ass until they submit."
