DRAGON COLOURS

user posted image
Ebony Violet
Female
Clutch: Clutching

Ebony dragons are very independant dragons, and Impress to independant women. Their large size gives them an advantage over the smaller Golden Fuschia's, making them the obvious choice for high ranking positions in the Weyr. However, they do not want to be in such a position, and despite their nack for leadership, they hate responsibility. The Ebony's don't clutch very often and normally no more than 20 eggs, which are usually all ranking dragons. Rarely will an Ebony hatch below a Brown. Because of this, they are not often chosen to be the Senior Queen as they could not be expected to populate the Weyr. They are one of the rarest dragons on Pern.

Golden Fuschia
Female
Clutch: Clutching

The Golden Fuschia has replaced the Golds of old in everything but colour. They are proud and regal creatures, the Queens of their Weyr and they know it. These dragons can be tempramental at times, picky, arrogant and sometimes cold, but they are strong leaders. The Golden Fuschia's have a strong voice and are able to command obedience from any dragon in the weyr, but their Ebony violet sisters. Fuschia's are as rare as their Gold sisters were, with only one or two eggs appearing in a clutch sired by a strong, large male; if even then.

Tourmaline
Male
Without a Weyr an Tourmaline fails. He needs the Weyr just as much as the Weyr needs him! The Tourmalines are selfless and will do whatever it takes to protect the Weyr and their Queen! They are proud creatures, much like their smaller Bronze brothers, only without the arrogance that often taints a Bronze. In a way they are nieve of their power, though they are skilled at delegating responsibilty. Tourmaline's generally Impress to older male candidates, choosing maturity over mouldablilty. They are the largest male dragons in the Weyr, and in being so are perfectly suited to chasing that elusive Ebony; but they will not. An Ebony is far too flighty and uncontrolled for these proud, sensible and selfless dragons; the Golden Fuschia's are much more desirable, with their ambition and compassion.

Bronze
Male
Bronzes were always the ones to mate with queens, as the smaller colors generally lacked the stamina to chase and catch a gold, save for the occasional brown. They do, of course, chase all the smaller females as well, but their size and bulk puts them at a disadvantage against the smaller more agile males. The Weyrleader traditionally, rides a bronze, and this puts them at the same rank as Golds. They only to impress heterosexual males, of varingy ages. As the Tourmaline is now the largest male dragon, the bronzes are sure to be loosing some rank and responsibility. They will chase the Golden Fuschia's and even the Ebonys!

Red
Male and Female
Clutch: Non-clutching

These often vibrantly coloured creatures are an odd bunch – appearing in clutches as male female alike, they don't differ in personality between the genders, yet all share the same, passionate nature. A red is very rarely anything but highly opinionated, though they are very much capable of thinking through both sides of the idea, it only makes them even more stubborn and hard to deal with sometimes when you want them to do something they don't want to do. But for all their passions and opinions they always control themselves. High emotions do not get in the way of doing a good job and making sure that everyone has their own say. They make highly efficient Wingleaders and Wingseconds. Due to their size they can last an entire fall, though whether or not that flame much Thread thanks to organising everyone else is yet to be seen. The males are incapable of chasing the Ebony Violets, though everyone else is pretty much fair game, and the females can be chased by all bar smaller Blues and Nautics.

Brown
Male
Browns are possibly the most veristile of all the dragons. A typical all rounder with enough stamina to last an entire fall, and large enough to chase all but the largest queens. Browns can hold responsibilities well, without becoming arrogant like the Bronzes. They cannot be Weyrleader.

Sunfire
Female
Clutch: Non-clutching

Sunfires are just what you might expect from their name. They have a really fiery temperament, liking to test the boundries that are put in place, and they have a fiery temper to match. It doesn't take much goading to work these beautiful females into a tizzy, and once they have been you had better watch out. Not only will they use their tails and claws, they are rather likely to bring their riders into the fray as well. Yet there is a nicer, gentler side to them. When they rise to mate, they choose a dragon and that's it, that is their mate for as long as they see fit. Faithful to a fault, they will protect their rider and their rider's mate with a passion almost bordering on full blown rage. When they get the bit between their teeth, they will not give in no matter how valid the arguement. They can almost last a whole fall but alternate anyway just in case. They are chased by all but Tourmaline.

Purple
Male and Female
Clutch: None-clutching

The kind Purples are the Weyr's sweet hearts. They seem childlike in their innocence. A Purple can be a male or a female. A conversation with a Purple is never dull. As kind as an Tourmaline is resolved, they will try their best to make their riders and mates happy in any way they can. The Purples are so charming that it makes them almost endearing to the higher ranking Ebony dragons - though they'd be loathe to admit it. Purple's can reach positions such as Wingleader and Windsecond though most prefer not too, and are wonderful searchriders and Weyrling Masters. They can almost last a whole fall but alternate anyway just in case. They chase all females except the Ebony Violets and Golden Fuschias and are chased by all males. Though they tend to prefer Red partners.

Blue
Male
Blues are the suave playboys of any Weyr. Not as repsonsible as Browns, and more fun loving. They are nearly as agile as greens, but unlike the greens, they often have enough stamina to last for an entire Threadfall. They mate only with greens, as they are simply too small to keep up with a massive queen over a long mating flight. Some assume the position of teaching the new riders after their Impression. Canon blueriders are typically homosexual or bisexual, though some are heterosexual. Dragons sired by a Blue are generally some of the smaller dragons in the Weyr.

Nautic
Male
A Nautic is not a welcome dragon in certain circles, and they seem to prefer the company of the lower ranks. Perhaps it's because the higher ranks don't seem to trust them. They're sly in nature, with a dry sense of humour and more then enough cunning to get them through their day to day lives. In a way, they're like the spies of the Weyr: they collect information on people, they know what goes on. Because of that they tend to adopt an attitude, not a very nice one either. A bit of a smartass at times, they know just how far they can push at people to get what they want. The average Nautic will last just over half a fall, and no longer. With their size, they can't really last much longer then that; though the largest might last longer then a Blue. Chasing wise, they generally chase their Sunfire counterparts, it's unknown quite why. They can however chase anything ranked under Red.

Green
Female
Clutch: Non-clutching

Green dragons are one of the smallest colours, and did make up about half of all dragons on Pern before other mutations showed up. They are female, but unlike the queens, they are infertile and can produce flame. They are extremely valuable in Threadfall because of their agility, but they lack the stamina to last an entire Fall and generally fly in two or three shifts. Originally, greens Impressed to girls; however, after various natural disasters and plagues decimated Pern's population, women were needed to help repopulate the planet. Since going between during pregnancy can induce miscarriage and because removing pregnant riders from the Wings reduced the effectiveness of the Wings, it became impractical to present large numbers of women as candidates for Impression. Thus, green dragons began Impressing homosexual boys; by the time of the end of the 2nd Pass, female greenriders are becoming rare. By the time of Moreta in the 6th Pass, female greenriders are entirely forgotten, although greens gradually begin Impressing to women again in the 9th Pass.

Turquoise
Female
Clutch: Clutching

These little beauties are full of energy and joy! They are always optimistic and it is very difficult to get them down. They are much smaller than greens and very agile in the air, often performing tricks for anyone who cares to watch. They are also very sweet and kind to anyone they meet, and cant stand to see someone being shy! They cannot last a whole fall and so generally take up the same rotation as the greens. They are chased by reds and under.
