Old Forest Forum Rules
None of us like rules, but they’re necessary, even online, to protect everyone’s interests. The Old Forest is yours and mine so, to keep it that way here are some guidelines to help us all. Please take a moment to read through them. If you don’t go by the rules there will be consequences. First time will be a warning. Second time will be increase your warn rating level (not a good thing.) Third time will be a temporary ban. After that, a permanent ban. Each situation is subject to review by the moderators/administrators on a case-by-case basis. IMPORTANT All the forum rules are also the chatbox rules!! 1. New Members and Visitors! If it’s your first visit to the forum you’re welcome to read recent threads before you make your first post, or “lurk”. This is good way to become familiar with the environment. You should also check to if there is a thread that already deals with your topic and add your post there, if relevant. And, make an introduction topic and introduce yourself to the forum in the Elf’s Gate section so we can welcome you. :) 2. Please keep your signatures down to a reasonable size. Remember others may have a slower connection speed or slower computer than you; larger signatures take longer to load. If you would like to resize a picture but don’t know how, you can ask someone to do it for you. 3. Please be friendly and patient with each other. We are all here to have fun. You can discuss your ideas and opinions just be ready to back them up. Polite disagreement is fine. 4. NO FLAMING whatsoever is allowed at OF. We will not tolerate flaming, flame threads, or similar behavior, such as personal attacks or discrimination. Those who post deliberately spiteful comments about other members will receive a warning, and if the behavior continues they will be subject to the above mentioned sanctions. You may state your opinion, but it is best to keep hurtful comments to yourself. Personality clashes are sometimes inevitable. If you feel you are the victim of such an attack you may defend yourself, but please DO NOT respond in kind. Report such behavior to an administrator or moderator, or resolve the disagreement in private and outside the forum. 5. If you have an issue concerning another forum member, please either speak to the person directly via private message, email or an instant message program. If necessary, contact a moderators or administrator. This applies for private conversations as well. 6. No pornography, swearing or cursing can be contained within posts or signature pictures on the forum. We want the forum to remain a friendly welcoming place for everyone. Do not make references to bodily functions or sexual activities for they have no place on the boards. Such posts and/or images will be deleted and the poster may have the privilege to post images revoked. If further violated, the poster may be banned from the boards indefinitely. 7. NO SPAM! Please be thoughtful when posting. Do not post for the sake of posting or to gain a certain level. Stay on topic as much as possible. If a moderator gives you repeated warnings to get back on topic, and you do not, your topic may be deleted. Likewise, please do not ask an administrator to increase the flood control time. We have a section in the forum devoted to this, keep it there and everything is cool. Likewise, we have a place devoted to forum advertisement, and an affiliate box. (If you’d like to know more about that, contact a mod or admin.) 8. Please post in the appropriate forum, if you don’t your post or thread will be moved. Also, please do not post to draw attention to one of your other posts in a different forum. If the post is interesting, people will find it in their own time. 9. When discussing authors or books, please remember not everyone has read all the books. If you are posting a major spoiler, please make sure this fact is clearly stated either at the beginning of your post or, if you created the thread, in the topic description. Spoiler information should be posted in the corresponding forum. 10. Do not post copyrighted material as your own; this includes song lyrics, book excerpts, magazine articles, or links to other websites that support such infringements. 11. Please do not abuse the function that allows you to edit posts; repeated abuse will result in a warning. When editing the content of a post we ask that you tag the “add the edited by line” box. 12. When posting, try to be clear and concise with proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation. We don’t expect a masterpiece. For the sake of ease in communication, and the prevention of misunderstanding, please do not use l33+ speak, chat speak, or poor English. Take a moment to reread a post before you post it. In order to communicate, and prevent misunderstanding, people must be able to understand you. 13. If any member considers a post objectionable, we encourage you to either report the post or contact a moderator immediately via private message and/or email.
