Was curious about the Dauphins but their mom says they would like to pursue football? Many seniors may be looking at OCU and/or UCO. They have more scholarships to offer at that level I hear.

Just looked at Intermat.com again. Oklahoma has only 6 early commitments in D1 wrestling. I sorted by state nd noted Ohio already has close to 30 and Pennsylvania close to 50. Michigan, Illinois, New York, New Jersey, and numerous others all have more than OK. It concerns me about the future of wrestling in OK. I'm interested in other thoughts on the status of wrestling in Oklahoma and its future?

It doesn't mean much. This years class has some quality kids that will most likely have a successful D-1 career. Last years class was loaded and most opinion is that it was one of the best from Oklahoma ever. Comparing Oklahoma to highly populated and more wrestling oriented states like PA and OH is always going to make Oklahoma look bad if for no other reason than the pure numbers of high school wrestlers in each state. Due to our sparse population, in most years we will have only about 4-6 wrestlers sign in Div 1. Out of those, usually about 1-2 really reach the highest level in college, being an AA or close to it. Percentage wise that is a little better than some states like NJ, PA and OH. However, when you look at number of National Champions produced from OK compared to the population, OK still is one of the elite states producing those wrestlers. Iowa would be another that consistently has more national champions and AA produced compared to it population.

Very true, everything you have said. It is my "wishful thinking" that Oklahoma would have more recruits. I dream of Oklahoma being an Iowa. Iowa numbers don't make sense as compared to population. It is awesome the level of above-average wrestlers they produce. My wish is for Oklahoma to get back to the time where wrestling was more valued in our state as it is in places like Iowa, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and especially Michigan with their own news sites built for their wrestling programs.
