Reluctantly, I have to sell this exceptionally able and charming craft. The Andy Lassen is very much a classic; during the 36 years I have owned her she has been much admired and I confess I have been proud to own her. She has always been painted jet black with a gold cove line, ochre deck and varnished brightwork, and is rigged in a very proper, traditional way.
The Andy Lassen is 20ft long, with 8ft beam and 3ft 6ins draft. She carries lead ballast both inside and outside, as a long external keel, housed into her main oak keel. She was built for a Wootton fisherman in about 1935 - for use both for trawling and for pleasure - at Woodnutts Yachtbuilders, of Bembridge. Construction is heavy and sound, of pitchpine on oak, with spruce decks. While retaining her fish deck aft, many years ago Woodnutts added an elegant cabin top abaft the mast. Her cabin provides good sitting headroom, with a sleeping area forward of the mast. She has a new 16hp diesel installed, as well as a carefully installed coal and wood burning fire to make off season sailing a pleasure. Spars are all excellent - varnished spruce, stout in dimension to match the exceptional stabilty of the boat. Sailing her is very much like sailing a much larger vessel. She has a brand new suit of bespoke sails to match her robust qualities - all hand roped tan classic sailcloth. She also has an excellent set of new galvanised standing rigging, served and leathered in a very traditional way. Various gear goes with her, including an Avon Rover inflatable. I had intended to potter round the Solent in her in my old age. But instead I find myself living abroad, unable to maintain and use her, and so must find a new owner soon, to enjoy her as I have. I was coming towards the final stage of a major and rigorous refit project, to make her trouble-free for my retirement. Now this project remains unfinished (although what remains to be done is not in any way daunting) and the boat is a little dilapidated, under cover out the water at Gosport. Realistically, her buyer would need to put in a few months work to complete what still needs doing, to make her spick and span again, ready for sea. I believe she represents a genuine bargain for anyone prepared to do this work and to pay £6000, as she is. She is a classic craft of substantial value and of unique charm. She sails well, I have been across the channel in her... Pictures and any further details required can be e-mailed. Contact timmoon46@hotmail.com Attached Image (Click thumbnail to expand) ![]() |
