"Vivid" is a 24' clinker built sailing boat with a 3' draft and a bawley rig. She was originaly built in 1860 at Ward's boatyard in Gravesend, Kent. During her long history she has been rebuilt 3 times and is today in remarkable condition. I have a recorded history of all her owners with much information on how the boat was used. There are many photos of the boat, one of which dates from 1904 showing the fishermen sculling her into Gravesend basin.
The boat is sound throughout and is ready to sail away. A Volvo diesel two cylinder 15hp engine is installed which has been regularly serviced. The accomodation, which is basic, provides for two berths. Cooking is by single ring portable gas stove. Heads are a porta potti. There is a generous cockpit and plenty of deck to walk around on. The boat is helmed from the lazerete at the stern. I have owned the boat for 14 years during which time I have replaced the keel, added a false stern post and restored the rudder to is proper shape. The sails, which were made by Gayle Heard of Essex, consist of 5 x foresails of various sizes, a mainsail and a yard topsail. This is a beautiful and much admired small ship which is easy to sail on your own or with a crew of up to two people. A long article in Classic Boat appeared in the Febuary 2009 issue no.248. You are welcome to view and sail by appointment. Any questions please phone 01227 277897 or email me at:- john@arccreativedesign.com "Vivid" is for sale at £9500 or try an offer. |
