"Yes, tell Miss Moretti that I will be attending." Dodge answered back briskly into the phone that was pressed tightly against his ear. He was waiting for Ara to show up for their lunch date, but it showed by the time his watch was telling him that she was running late. Probably deciding what outfit to wear or other trivial girly things like that. After a quick stop at his business to sign a couple of papers, the racer was off. The place he picked looked over the Capitol, giving them a nice breeze with plenty of sun and shade. "No, I'll be attending alone, most likely." He replied to the woman who was starting to pester him as he took a quick sip of his beer. After getting all the details, he hung up and tossed the phone carelessly onto the table, lounging back in his chair. The mans mind began to spin with everything on his agenda. He had to go and check on his racer, making sure that it was in pristine condition for his next race, which seemed to be rapidly approaching and his excitement was almost too much to handle.
As he looked over the city, he wondered what Diara and Xylia were doing at that moment, if they were talking about school while having a snack, or sitting in one of the chairs he bought to furnish her house, reading a book. Dodge often found his mind drifting to things like that, pondering what exactly it was his daughter was doing. He knew he was missing out on a lot with being unable to be around her all the time, like he wanted. But he couldn't put the child or woman through the pain of having his parents look down on them, for them to scoff and stick up their noses while saying that it wasn't their granddaughter. Diara wasn't the type to sleep around him, didn't have those kinds of ways about her. He could look at the little blonde haired angel and tell that it was indeed, his daughter. His long slender fingers trailed over his lips in thoughts, feeling the roughness of the pads moving over his soft lips. Such a weird contrast.
The sight of his sister knocked him from his memories that were close to turning dark and he stood to give her a hug. "Well don't you just look cute. I could pinch your cheeks and speak in baby talk. Yes you do, just so cute." To prove his point, Dodge dared to gently pinch her cheeks, smirking. "Took you long enough. What is it with you women?" To be fair, Dodge took his time when getting ready, but not as long as women. It was almost like they had some kind of mating ritual with all the cosmetics, hair supplies, and clothes. Thank heavens he was all man.

Ara wakes up that morning alone, elusive sleep humming its final chord and thrusting her into reality. She lies staring at the ceiling for an hour or maybe more, hand outstretched to a point where Aero is sometimes to be found, the pillow still taking on the contours of his head from the last time he slept there. Around her the sheets and blankets are rumpled, contorted, sticking haphazardly to her barely clad body. Where once she slept like a log, now she twists and turns, wakes for hours and can't sleep, sometimes pounds herself into submission with drugs but more often than not avoids them. The blackness that once signalled a soft and kind sleep now reminds her of the inky colour of the river's depths, the sinking feeling of life seeping from her bit by bit and being trapped. Trapped and dying. Slowly, carefully, she sits up and looks at the clock, but it's only ten. She's slept two hours, gaps of ten minutes here and there not counting for they left her more tired than she had been before. She should sleep more, but she can't. Not now. Breakfast seems too hard and so she sinks back into the bed, staring at the ceiling and wondering what new things await her today. What dangers lie inches from her fingertips.
Noon comes and goes, she throws on a t-shirt and jeans and goes over her motorcycle with a fine toothed comb, checking brake lines and the engine, ignition and tyres - everything she can check is checked until she's appeased. Never satisfied, because you can't count on things not to go wrong anyway. She can't count on anyone but a handful of people in her life. Aero, Dodge. Legion, although she has other things to worry about. Gabe's disappeared, but she wonders if they were ever anything anyway. If she was simply nothing more than a fling, something to transport him from his wife and his worries. She doesn't want to know, anyway, and the garage door slides open as she roars out, leather jacket and jeans, helmet visor down. It closes behind her, leaving a large glass house. Somewhere you shouldn't throw stones in, somewhere that could shatter any second if the Capitol so wished it.
The city eases past, the bike's engine roars her into the hills, around the twists and turns until she reaches the little park that overlooks the city, eases her motorcycle into place beside her brother's car and settles the kickstand into the gravel beneath her feet. He's there and waiting, cellphone pressed to his ear, and she swings her leg over the bike, pulls the helmet off and hangs it on the handlebars before approaching him and being drawn into a hug. Her hair is tied back, a long glossy dart of blonde hair flowing down her back, her worn leather jacket allows her to hug him back and she sighs softly, smiling as he pinches her cheek. "Long night, just woke up," she excuses herself, although half the time's really been spent taking apart her bike and splashing her face repeatedly with water to make herself look and feel a little more awake. "I missed you. Was starting to think you didn't have time for your little sister any more," she smiles slightly, squeezes him in the hug and then withdraws. "Either that or maybe you'd gone out in a blaze of glory without telling me first."

Dodge heard his sister's bike before he saw her and couldn't help but smile a little bit. She was a wild cat and he was proud. When he started racing, it was almost impossible not to see her own excitement in it and the older sibling was happy to show her everything she wanted when it came to the sport. When she started, he was crew chief, making sure that all her mechanics were tuned just right. Eventually he taught her how to do it all. He didn't trust anyone else. No, a racer knew their own car. In a way, it was like an extension of their body and who didn't know their own body? The only time Dodge became extra nervous for Aracelia was when she branched out from racing into stunts. The first time he ever saw her pull one, his heart stopped until she landed it perfect. It wasn't that he didn't have faith in the younger Grayson child, but more of a protective thing. After her accident, he couldn't help but feel somewhat guilty for it, even though it wasn't at his hands. If something happened to her...
”Oh? I'm afraid to ask you to go on, so I'll just stick with you were busy doing something crazy and wild.” Dodge retorted, the corner of his lips turning up into a grin. He didn't exactly want to hear about her sex life, if that was a reason why she had been up all night and figured it was probably safer and better for his sanity to assume she was just doing stuff to her bike or coming up with new stunts. Safer that way, much, much safer. It was nice to get a hug from her and it seemed like it had been far too long since the last time he had one. With their busy schedules, it wasn't always easy to see each other as much as they once did. ”I'll always have time for you, short stuff. It's just things have been hectic with the business and racing.” The racer left out the fact that someone had been tampering with some of his vehicles in the chauffeur business. Gas lines cut. He figured it was Orion, letting him know that his life was still sitting comfortably in the palm of his hand. Security for the business had been bumped up, just in case something of the like happened again. ”Nahh, not yet. Still far too many races to win and women to pursue. You'd be the first to know if I crashed and burned beyond repair.” He chuckled.
He sat back down in his seat and took another swig of his beer, lounging back in the chair. He liked this place, knew it quite well. In a way it was peaceful and with it being far enough from the Capitol that the pair wouldn't have to worry about pictures being taken, it made it the perfect spot. ”What have you been up to? Besides shocking and aweing people.” Unlike most siblings, Dodge felt no jealousy or envy towards Ara. There was no need for it. Both were successful in what they did, both had pretty good lives. ”Mom says you need to call her by the way. Something about girl time with shopping.” Dodge did his best to hide his smile but failed. ”Don't jump for joy too high.” Yes, he was picking on his sister and he knew it. It was far too fun to skip out on.

"Too busy for your little sister, huh? I see," she teases him easily before taking a seat and glancing over her shoulder at his car. It's one of his collection, but she does't remember having seen it lately. Perhaps he's pulled it out of the back of his garage. She muses quietly for a few seconds about which car of his she liked the most, decided she couldn't decide and turned back to her brother. "Have you lost anything yet?" she throws at him with a wicked grin on her face knowing full well she would have heard about it by now if he had. Her brother was one of a kind, even better than Aero on the race track. He flew round the corners, roared across the straights - he was golden behind the wheel of a car. He was her brother and she was inordinately proud of him and what he could do. She spoke volumes about him, idolised him and perhaps held his unbeaten record closer to her heart than he did himself. She was that proud. "I've been dropping out of planes and off buildings. Same old, same old. I might have found myself a boy, though." The slender woman let this one out slyly as she reached for one of the drinks that sits unopened on the table. "I might even tell you if you tell Mom I've been ungodly busy and I won't be able to make it back to One any time soon?"
Snagging the drink she pulls up the bottom of her t-shirt and screws open the top with its help, tossing the cap onto the table top and letting the hem of her clothing fall back to cover her once more as she took a sip of the drink and glanced out at the view. It was gorgeous out here, the viewpoint almost managing to make the Capitol look beautiful - almost. "How about you? Any luck in love, or are you still making your way through the women of the Capitol one by one? I should put you in touch with Gabe - I feel like you two would get on." Ara didn't mind her brother's tendency towards promiscuity, she'd seemed to have inherited that particular trait as well, and sometimes wondered which parent it originated in, or if it had skipped a generation and had come from their Grandparents - maternal or paternal, she didn't remember any of them, in any case.

"You know it. What can I say? My babies take up a lot of my time." He retorted back, adjusting himself in his chair when he sat back down. Dodge saw his sister look at his car and did nothing to hide his smile. He was a proud man who never toned down his accomplishments. Though he was still humble about it, that didn't mean he should act ashamed. He worked hard to achieve his prized car collection, had raced and won more competitions than he could count. Did that mean that he shouldn't show off his work? Restoration of them was always a good hobby to have and it was nice to be able to do it with Ara when he needed the extra help. She was still a woman, but when it came down to business, she didn't mind the grease stains or the oil beneath her nails. It was just one thing that held the ability for them to bond. ”Nope,” Dodge started, shaking his head slightly, ”not yet. But the time will come when I do. I'll be getting too old for this and you're going to have to keep the Grayson name out there on the track.” His smile widened with pride. Aracelia could do it, he knew that quite well. The racers eyebrows arched and he leaned forward his seat, resting his elbow against the table to brace his chin against. A boy? Well, that was interesting. ”Oh really? I'm intrigued now.” It took everything in Dodge to not laugh loudly at his sister and instead nodded his head with a quiet chuckle. ”Deal. I'll tell her you've got a lot on your plate right now and I barely saw you.” He never had any trouble seeing his little sister, but did their family need to know that? Nah. She had her own busy life to manage, just as he did.
His blue eyes moved from his sister to look over the Capitol when he brought up having a love. There was only one true love he ever had and she was currently in another district with their daughter, little Xylia. It was one of the two secrets that Dodge felt he had to keep from his sister. He smiled, but that smile didn't quite reach his eyes. ”No love, not yet, but I'm still going through the Capitolites one by one.” Pausing, he broke off a piece of his roll and popped it into his mouth. Unlike some, Dodge was sweet when it came to those he had slept with. He never acted like it never happened or looked down on them. Everyone had needs. ”Gabe, who's that? Your boy?” The corner of Dodge's lips twitched and he popped another piece of bread into his mouth.

Ara giggles as she catches that proud smile. His cars were his babies, she only wished that he had some real ones. She would have loved being an Aunt, but it didn't quite look like her brother was ready to settle down yet, more was the pity. She'd have to wait, but she hoped she wouldn't be waiting for too long. "You know I'm not big into racing, Dodge - not like you, anyway," she chides. "Besides, I could never keep up your track record. Might be best if you just retired, sat your old ass down and let someone younger take up the mantle." The slender blonde grins at her brother and takes a sip of her appropriated drink, savouring the taste briefly before she swallows and lets out a satisfied sigh. It had been far too long since she'd last seen him, far too long since they'd just stopped and talked about anything and everything, about nothing and important things, all intermingled in one long conversation that was entirely comfortable because this was Dodge. He knew almost everything about her, and she wouldn't have it any other way. "I kind of feel bad about avoiding Mum, but all she does is make me shop for dresses and make up. It gets old after a while, and it gets even worse when she starts in on who I'm going to marry and make a happy husband. She suggested Gray, that weirdo from two years above me in school." Ara makes a face and shakes her head, remembering the spindly little boy who was apparently a factory owner now. Too docile for her.
"Better slow down and savour some of them before you burn through them all, though," she references the Capitolites he's been through and throws him a sideways glance. All this time and he's found nothing. Perhaps he should just settle down with a nice District girl. She should work on finding him one. "But no, Gabe's not my boy. Just a friend. A Victor, actually. I used to hang out with him a lot, and with Legion before she went and got pregnant and Gabe went and got, well... weird." She shrugs slightly. He'd been out of contact for a while now, but she heard about him from other people. It was like he'd cut contact for some reason. She'd chase him out one of these days - she missed him. "No, my boy... well. No names. But he's sweet. Only it's a bit complicated and, uh... I don't think the Capitol would ever look on us as a favourable match. He means a lot to me, though. A big lot. Heaps huge." Words from her younger days, when she'd try to explain to her brother how much she loved him, or how much her friends meant to her. It put them on a scale that had more meaning to her and less to everyone else but her and Dodge. It was like a secret code between the pair of them, and it should tell him exactly how much Aero meant to her. A terrifyingly large part of her was invested in him, against all odds. She looked down at the drink in her hands and smiled almost sadly.

it takes everything in him to not roll his eyes. It didn't matter how many times he tried to get ara to race, she just wouldn't. Perhaps she lacked the kind of passion dodge held within himself for it. But he also wasn't thinking about himself when he got into the car each time. No, it was on the little blonde haired child he had bore with a woman in another district. After the race, his mind would switch to the man who dangled Dodge's life in his hands. A puppet on a string, practically who danced and did tricks whenever ordered to do so. Even if he did quit racing, the man had a successful business and made plenty of money to keep Xylia, her mother, and Zeke happy. He shook his head with a laugh and ran his hand through his blonde hair, ”I know, Ara. All I can do is hope,” Dodge's brow arches and he snorts. Let someone younger step in? Never. ”I still have some races in my old bones yet. Soon though.” He promises both her and himself. Yes, soon Dodge 'Diablo' Grayson would hang up his keys forever. But that moment wasn't upon him quite yet. This time he didn't suppress the need to roll his eyes. Personally, he thought there was something wrong with their parents, but the subject wasn't something he could easily bring up without confrontation. Nah, he'd just let it go. ”Understandable. I'd probably feel the same dress shopping and looking at makeup. But don't let them push you to be with someone you don't want to be with, Aracelia. All they are going to do is hinder you and keep you from living out your life how you want.” His sister would probably be caged and that was something that didn't sit well with the older Grayson.
”Probably, but it seems like more are being shipped in daily. I think I still have some I haven't met yet. Besides, Raya Moretti is having a party and there will be plenty of them there to pick and choose from.” Ripping off a piece of the bread placed in front of him, Dodge popped it in his mouth and savored the taste, allowing the warmth to spread through his mouth full of delicious flavors. Each woman was a replacement, something to do with his time until he could figure out how he would get Diara back without any objections from his parents. Never had he ever hidden anything from his little sister, but inside the man was two secrets that he couldn't utter. Two things that would change her life forever. ”Good,” he started, brushing his hands over the other in order to get the crust from the bread cleaned off. , never liked him. Weird, and not the good kind.” Dodge took another drink from his beverage and placed the cool glass against his leg, lounging back in the chair while listening to his sister speak. He could understand what she was going through, except it wasn't with the Capitol, but their own parents. Sure, the Capitol may not of approved of Dodge and Diara, but they would never get the chance to know. Maybe now was the best time to admit to his sister that she wasn't alone in such a feeling. But before he could, he took a long drink, feeling the bubbly burn from the beer as it slid down his throat in long chugs. It was done before he knew it and looked to a nearby waitress, ordering another. ”I understand how you feel. But don't be like your idiot brother and let it go. Hold onto it and cherish it all.” His heart belonged to one woman and one woman alone. No matter how many women he slept with or showed an interest in, no one ever came close the woman from District Nine.

Ara shrugs at her brother's advice, gives him a sideways look as he mentions Gabe being weird and presses her lips together in a thin line. If he knew the half of it where she and the older Victor were concerned he'd probably have a fit and try to strangle him. Actually, he'd probably just skip the fit and go straight to the strangling. The slender stunt woman doesn't want to think about who would come out on top on that battle of wills, although she'd be rooting for her brother. She and the Victor had found a strange kind of détente and she hadn't spoken to him in a long, long time despite wanting to. On odd occasions she'd pick up her phone, think about texting and telling him everything - her fear, the abortion, how she'd felt about him, how she really felt about Aero - but those were secrets she'd probably keep to herself for now. Forever, probably. With the Capitol conference looming on the horizon anything about Aero would best be kept to herself in any case. They seemed to be off the burner for the time being as Panem geared up for a display of loyalty to the President.
"I don't know if I can hold onto it, Dodge. Neither of us have a great amount of control over it, really. I just... I wish things were different. I wish.." she trails off, shakes her head and looks away, takes a drag at her beer and runs her fingers through her hair, rakes it back from her face as she leans back in her chair. "When are you going to settle down and make a good example of yourself?" Ara turns the topic a little gracelessly, unwilling to think about the possibility that Aero could slip through her fingers without her consent, without their consent. It stung to think about that, like whiplash from a particularly nasty accident. "Surely Mum's been pressing you for that as well? I can't imagine why she wouldn't. She's had it on her to do list for quite a while now." The slender woman gives her brother an innocent smile and then looks out to the Capitol before them. "That and her inviting them out here, or us going back to One. I don't want to go back, though. One day, maybe, but not now." It's been years since she's been home, if even for a quick stop, and she's not sure she'd call One home any more. Sure, it has her parents, but that's about it. It doesn't have her job, her cars, or Aero. It's just a District amongst all the others.
