how far can goats fly?
To say the Reapings had not gone as she had expected was an understatement. Two of the only people she cared to talk to had been reaped, and both of them planned on getting the other home. To the lone ginger this was a stupid plan. But now she had to find other means of entertainment, and beating the shit out of the younger careers who thought they had a chance was boring her. While it felt good to send more than a few home bleeding, because lets face it, Kilani was a force of her own. She didn't enjoy getting physical and showing off her skills, but she was beyond pissed. Had been for days now. Even her dad was avoiding her more than normal, which meant that he hadn't come home in two nights. Which was fine with the seventeen year old because then there was less time spent trying to explain her few injuries.

Today, she was going to a place that she knew she would probably find the one other person besides Abel that put up with her. Romulus was a strange soul, but she was strangely attracted to him. There was something about how he just sat there and never said a word that made her want to be around him more. Both Holly and Cain called her certifiably insane, because Rome was an orphan, and there were rumors that he had personally killed his twin brother, and his father. Maybe she was truly demented in the head, but she felt like that made him more attractive. So today, dressed in dark wash jeans and one of her button up shirts, she was dragging a large box to a cliff. This cliff was one that she knew things went flying off rather often. Wasn't it just a couple months ago that she had been talking to Rome about how he found out goat's bounce when you throw them off? She didn't have any goats today, just miscellaneous shit that she didn't want any more, a bucket of gas, and a whole box of matches. She was set up to burn as much as she could down, and cackle her life away to watch people scramble out of the way.

With the direction of her gaze hidden behind a large pair of sunglasses she finally got the box to where she wanted, and with a quick look around to make sure she was alone, she slumped on top of it. She wasn't weak, but this box was pretty damn heavy to be hauling around the district. She was lucky nobody liked to mess with her or she would have been stopped. Even the peacekeepers tended to stay out of her way after she had shown them what pain was like. She had a couple scars on her back to prove that they did their job, but there was a fear in their eye when she came near now.

Brushing some of her hair out of her face she reached into the box and pulled out a teddy bear. This bear was something she had since birth, one of the few things that her father let her keep of her mothers. She sat in silence for a moment, before ripping the head off and throwing it to the side, making a garbled cry of yelling and tears. She hadn't cried since Holly and Cain left. She had been holding it all in. Holding it all in for this. With her jaw clenched she ripped each stitch out of the beheaded bear, throwing the stuffing and limbs as she pleased.

The reapings had come and passed and like every other year so far Romulus had gone unreaped. He was not the only boy in the district who had hopes to someday be reaped and sent into the games. He was a career after all. Maybe not as openly ruthless and arrogant as the others, but definitely more sinister. Rome knew better than to let arrogance rule his judgement because that was something that got the majority of careers killed in the arena. Very few arrogant careers ever made it out alive and those that did were impressive. Take Cain for example. His arrogance was sure to get him killed, especially with Holly in the arena with him. He knew that only Holly had the chance out of the two of them coming out alive, and honestly he hoped she did come home. She was one of the few people he actually enjoyed being around. As for Cain, when he hoped that his death would be brutal and messy.

Romulus had not said goodbye to either of district two's tributes that year. Mostly because he was a man of very few words and did not know what to say. He knew he would never have gone to say goodbye to Cain even if he did talk more, and he was not ready to say goodbye to the other red head he liked. The only good thing to come out of the reapings was the fact that Kilani was safe for another year. Not that he particularly cared for her safety but rather he would have liked to be in the arena alongside her. The two of them would have been an even deadlier force than Holly and Cain. No mercy would be shown between the two of them and all hell would break loose. A dangerous looking smirk spread across his lips at the mere thought of it.

Romulus strolled along the familiar path that led to the cliffs. It was a path that he had taken nearly every day since he had thrown his own brother's body over the edge of the canyon. His dangerous smirk was still spread across his lips as he walked, a small container of belongings carried under his arm. He had been snooping around the orphanage and found some of Remus's old things and decided it was time to get rid of it. Five years after his death was much too long for any of his things to still be around, and Rome was determined to get rid of it. As he approached the cliffs, he spotted his favourite redhead standing near a box of her own while ripping the limbs off a teddy bear. "No goats either, Kills?" Rome asked in a creepy sing song sort of voice as he approached, dropping the container of belongings at his feet.

how far can goats fly?
The teddy bear that she had cherished as a young child was no longer in one piece. With her emotions running high, there had been no saving the small toy. She was so involved in her own little world, she forgot to listen for any other human beings as they approached. So when she heard a voice asking about goats, before her mind could even register who it was, she had reached down into her boot for the small dagger that was hidden, and turned around with it in hand. A

As soon as she turned she knew who it was, and knew exactly why the voice had not immediately registered. It was Rome. Her muscles relaxing, she bent down and slipped the dagger back into it's spot and was shaking her head. "Couldn't find one." Come to think of it, she wasn't exactly sure if having a goat right then would have done any good. Mutilating her childhood belongings seemed to be a bit more refreshing than chucking a live animal off the side of the cliff.

She tilted her head a little to the side as he dropped his own box of things. "Seems we both had the same idea." As she calmed down a little, she realized that she probably looked like hell, and this was not okay. Kilani did not look like hell in front of other people. In front of other people she was always perfect. Somebody to envy. She was not this mess of emotion, with make-up running from her tears, and her hair most likely askew. Brushing a piece of her hair back behind her ear, she resisted the urge to completely fix it. Rome wouldn't care would he?

Holly and Cain had always said he was creepy. That Kilani shouldn't speak to him. But did she listen? Never. To her, he was just another person. Sure he had a bit of an odd streak, but didn't they all? She seemed to be one of the few people that he would speak around, which made her feel that much better about herself. And the mere mention of his name would make Cain start spitting needles, which entertained her. Sighing, she slumped to the top of her box and hugged her arms around her chest. these mood swings were driving her crazy. One second she was in a murderous rage, the next she was close to tears. Then there was the calm times, where she was close to numb to all feelings. It was all very taxing on a person. "So what's in your box?"

Chasing down goats was not something that Romulus did in his spare time so he hadn't had one to chuck off the cliff today. There had only been a handful of times where he had come across one and threw it over the edge. It was fascinating at first to throw a living creature down into the canyon, but after the third or fourth time it had started to lose its magic. Now throwing a living person down into the canyon, that would be much more exciting. Unfortunately one of the people he would like to throw off the canyon had been reaped into the games so he would have to settle with finding someone else. It would have been a great pleasure to watch the expression on Cain's face as Rome threw him over the face of the cliff. A creepy smile spread across his lips at the thought.

Romulus found himself feeling a bit curious when Kilani started fidgeting with her hair and tucking it behind her ear. He hadn't really paid any attention to her appearance since it didn't matter to him in the slightest. An eyebrow raised ever so slightly at the gesture before his eyes moved down to look at her box of things and then over to his own. "I found some of Remus's old things in the orphanage." Rome replied in a cold voice that he usually took on when he was talking about a particular subject that he didn't like to discuss. Since the day he had killed his twin brother, he usually never talked about him and preferred to keep it that way. No one knew for certain that he had killed the other boy, but he was quite aware of the rumours that circulated around the district about it. Peace keepers had yet to arrest him and ship him off to become an Avox or kill him so he assumed that there was no sufficient evidence that he had done in.

He watched silently as Kilani sat down on the top of her box with her arms wrapped around herself. Romulus was extremely intelligent, more so than people probably knew, but he had no idea what was going on when other people acted a certain way. Especially if it was a girl, because they confused him beyond all hope. All he knew was that Kills was acting differently than her usual self but he had no idea as to why and he really didn't want to ask her about it either. "Anything interesting in your box?"

She didn't know why she had asked what was in his box. It wasn't her business was it? but then, if she hadn't asked, it wouldn't have been like her. kils was a curious person. She was more like a cat than a person at times. When she got angry, she hissed. She hid in trees, preferring an aerial attack rather than wasting her energy lunging at people like most did. It was his brother's things? That was interesting. Hadn't he died a few years ago? That, she wasn't going to ask about, because well, there was something about him that creeped her out, even if she would never admit it as long as she was living. Maybe not even after she was dead.

It seemed they both had boxes from a childhood they wished to forget. In all honesty, she wasn't sure she wanted to forget it per-say, but she was willing to have a fresh start. There was nothing from recent times that she felt like throwing off a cliff, unless tweedlebitch counted, but then she would have a real problem on her hands. "eh, stuff I don't need anymore." Picking her feet up she rested her heels on the edge of the box and wrapped her arms around her knees, resting her chin on top of that. She didn't really care if Rome saw her acting abnormal. He was the closest thing to a friend she had at that point. "You never did tell me how far goats bounce."

Scooting over a bit, she reached into her box and pulled out a picture. It was the only picture of her mother that she owned, since she had died right after giving birth. "Got a lighter on you?" She looked up at him, knowing this wasn't like her. How long would it take before he asked? Would he? Probably not. She was probably going to end up spilling her guts or doing something stupid like that.

Romulus was not an expert on human behavior and to be honest he really didn't give a shit about how other people were feeling or what they were thinking. Even when it came to people that he considered friends or sorts. However with Kilani there was a part of him that felt like he should ask her if she was alright. It was like an internal struggle going on with himself as he debated on what to do. The antisocial, people hating side of him didn't want to ask because he didn't care, but the part of him than genuinely liked her thought he should ask her just because it would be what was expected of him. That last thought made him suddenly frustrated and angry because he didn't like the idea of people having expectations when it came to him. He liked to keep them on their toes and keep them always surprised, and that was getting difficult now that he found himself around people more.

Rome watched as she sat with her knees against her chest and her feet propped on the box. It was a position he had seen young children who were sad or upset sitting like, and it made him curious as to why Kilani was in such a position. Was she sad or upset? Judging by the fact that she was sitting with a box of things she planned on throwing over the cliff and having watched her tear a stuffed animal apart said that she was upset. Why she was upset, Romulus had no fucking clue. He was a guy that did not experience many emotions other than sick pleasure at causing people pain and being nonchalant. His features were either neutral or had his signature creepy smirk. The only other time his face showed any other signs of emotions was when he had killed Remus and his father but he hadn't shown anyone that face. Yet. "They bounce the entire way down to the bottom until you can't see them anymore." Rome finally replied after he had come back from his thoughts.

He watched quietly as she pulled out a picture from the box and when she asked if he had a lighter, Rome nodded and reached into his pocket. "Always." Rome replied as he pulled out an old silver lighter and handed it to her. "You never know when you need to burn something." He walked over and sat down beside her, crossing his legs and mentally groaning at himself for what he was about to do. "Are you alright, Kills? Did you want to talk about anything?" Romulus hated the fact that he was actually asking her what was wrong despite the fact that he really didn't care, but it was his attempt at being a good 'friend'.

She didn't know what was possessing her to burn the only thing she had proving that she looked like her mother. Not that it mattered anyways. The only ones that would remember her mother were the older people in the district, and she never talked to them. She was pretty sure that her dad kept some things locked in his room, or maybe the attic, but she never went in there. Why would she? He never stepped foot into her room. It was like they had two different houses meshed into one. But Rome had a lighter. For this, she was glad. She looked up at him as he handed her the lighter, and flicked the flame, to where it was jumping in the air. "Hols used to do this, all the time. Threatened to burn my clothes." Then, she lifted the picture to the flame as he sat down. Her green eyes watched as it caught, the heat flickering and swaying, slowly making her mother melt off the face of the planet. At least in her eyes. "That was my mom's picture. You know she died giving birth to me? I think my Father believes I am cursed. That's why he stays so far away from me. Everything I touch seems to die."

So maybe she was in fact, being a little melodramatic with everything she touched dying, but it was true about her father. She had ears, she heard the rumors. Did she want to talk about anything? That was a silly question. There were plenty of things she should talk about, but would she? Flipping the lighter closed, she handed it back to him before looking into his eyes. "Two of the only people that like me for me are destined to die. What more is there to talk about? I'm volunteering next year. There's that. There's this box of stuff that represents a little girl who never was, there's me, who is so lost in this damn place all I want to do is kill. And I don't think there's anything other than that to talk about." oh, but there could be. She was just too close to tears to elaborate on any of it. He had just opened a can of worms, and it was going to be tough to get them all back in.

To say that Romulus was a uncomfortable would be an understatement. It was hard enough having to actually ask Kilani what was up, but now he would have to sit and listen while she explained. He tried really hard to not care about the lives of other people because he found it to be boring and unimportant, but like always it seemed to be different with Kilani. She seemed to be the only person that didn't get on his nerves and make him want to stab her. Even with Holly he had found himself tempted to drive a harp stick through her chest sometimes. Of course that was mostly because Cain was always around pissing him off and Holly always took his side.

He watched as she took the lighter and lit the flame, watching it for a moment. Fire had always been something that intrigued Romulus, mostly because of the extensive damage that could be done with it. He watched as she pulled out an old photograph and dipped the corner into the flame. It rippled and curled back as the flame spread across the photo, eating it away. Rome glanced up from the photo to look at Kilani again. "People die, Kills. It's not your fault." Rome replied slowly after a moment. He didn't know why, but there was a part of him that made him feel like he should be trying to comfort her but he had no idea how. And he didn't really want to either because it made him extremely uncomfortable. He needed to distract himself for a moment so he reached into his own box and pulled out an old wooden train. "Remus used to play with this stupid thing for hours on end." Rome said a he held up the toy train so she could look at it for a moment. With an eye roll he tossed it over the edge of the cliff without so much as a second thought.

When she passed him back the lighter, he took it and put it back into his pocket in silence. He had always known Kilani had a flair for the dramatics but he had a feeling deep down that she was just using the dramatics as a protective mechanism. That thought made him shudder because he was starting to care and think way more than he ever wanted to. He rubbed the back of his neck while he listened to her talk again about Holly and Cain being in the Games and how she wanted to volunteer. Well wasn't that funny. He had planned on entering the next Games as well if he could, and this gave him even more incentive to do so. "If I'm not reaped I'm volunteering too. We could make a pretty awesome team, Kills." Rome replied, glancing at her for a brief moment before looking out at the canyon again.

Emotions seemed so worthless. What good were they truly? They showed weakness. And in her life, a weakness was a way to die. If you showed emotion, true emotion at least, you would lose control of everything that you had. That was why she was always dramatic. Acting was a skill, one that she had a lot of. And acting meant that you were able to fake emotions. Now, for many people that might not seem like a lot, but to her, it was everything. She could be dying inside, itching to curl up into a ball and bawl her eyes out, and there wouldn't be the slightest hint of it on her outer facade. It had taken years of practice to achieve that. But it wasn't working now. Not with two people that had broken through her barriers gone. And probably not coming back. And she was sitting on a box of almost all her worldly possessions with a man who was one of the only other two people left in the district, or all of Panem, that she would talk to. And she knew he didn't want to be there. Rome wasn't a talker. He never had been. But she couldn't explain what the attraction to him was. Maybe she just liked picking up strays.

She watched as he threw a toy train over, saying that his twin, whom had died, or as rumors had it, been killed, several years ago. She wondered about the eye roll though. Could he really not care? Everybody had to care about another human didn't they? And a twin at that? She knew Cain and Abel cared about each other, but didn't let many people see underneath that. Since she was an only child, and basically the only one of sound mind in her family of two, she didn't have much experience with that aspect. But she was composed enough, and that was just a little more than hysterical, to uncurl her legs and straighten her back. "We'd be unbeatable. One of us would definitely come back home." Could she be in the Games with him? Between the two of them, they definitely had the skills. She was good with several blades, and even had a special sheath for her short sword. Not to mention her tree skills. Holly had compared her to a cat several times, the way she would sit on a branch and wait for the opportune moment to pounce. There had even been times when she took to biting and scratching in hand to hand fights. What Holly didn't know, was that tucked in the back of her closet was a fitted leather suit. And Kils had gone so far as to make a headband with 'ears' on it to round out the look.

"We should do it." There was force behind her voice as she turned to fully face him, her face and mind set to determined (and undoubtedly stubborn). "One of us needs to show that district two isn't worthless. Even though the mentor seems to not give any fucks about us."

For all his life, Romulus had always been against expressing himself to other people more than he needed to. Most of the people he was forced to be around didn't get much more than a look or a nod from him, except for Kilani. She was the only person that managed to coax a series of words from his lips as easily as it was to breathe. This confused him more than he cared to admit, and he certainly wasn't going to tell her that. The last thing he wanted her to think was that she was special to him or something. Or was she special to him? Honestly Rome had no idea right now. It was confusing him so much that he couldn't stop to give it much thought right now. It would have to wait until he was back in the orphanage laying in bed where he would do the thinking that was required of him for all of this.

Romulus sat and contemplated what it would be like to be in the arena with Kilani. They were both extremely well trained careers that had no problems with causing other people pain. He had already killed two people that were his family, and honestly how hard would it be to kill others who he had no familial ties to at all? It wouldn't be hard at all. It would be as easy as slicing bread or cutting a piece of cake. If it got down to just him and Kills, would he have to heart to kill her? The answer was yes of course because he had the heart to kill anyone, but would he want to? No, he wouldn't. He didn't quite know why he wouldn't want to do it. He had a feeling though that her death would be the only one to have much of an effect on him. If she died, he really would have no one left. She still had her father back in two that would miss her, where as he had no one to miss him. Honestly, he wasn't all that keen on coming back alive from the Games, at least not if she was in there with him.

The look on her face when she turned to face him almost caught him off guard with the intensity and seriousness that was on it. He found himself with the sudden urge to reach out and touch her face, which surprised him even more than the look on her face. He shook his head slightly to clear it of its thoughts before he nodded at her. "If we don't get reaped, we volunteer. And we don't need a mentor, Kills. We already know what we need to know." He replied to her as he turned to look out at the canyon in front of them. It was true, neither of them needed any help when it came to fighting in the Games. He already knew how to kill, and he knew it would be easy for Kilani to pick up on as well. It wasn't all that hard.

It was extremely easy for her to sit there and say she would be able to kill anybody without thinking about it. The consequences, her own feelings. That was because she had never had to do that sort of thing. Put in a situation given to her, such as being in the games, with Rome, she knew she would be able to kill. It would be hard, the first time. It was always hard to do something for the first time. But then it would get easier. Could she kill him if it came down to it? Her big green eyes looked at him for a second, thinking. No, she couldn't. There would be others, who would kill the misunderstood young adult without a second thought. But for whatever reason, she and Rome got along. She wouldn't ever admit it, but there was a certain thing about him that attracted her to his person. It was strange to her, because that was one aspect of her life that she rarely, ever, practically once in a blue moon, paid attention to.

But it wasn't just because of that that she knew she wouldn't be able to kill him. He was one of few that could match her pace for pace, maybe even best her. Two of them were in the arena right now. The only other one wrecked with grief that he was unstable. They had been five of the most powerful careers district two had to offer. Now they were down to three. "I know we don't need her for our purposes. But it would be nice to be liked wouldn't it? To be wanted to come home?" She wasn't sure if he would understand. But she always had a desire to be wanted. Her father didn't want her, and her mother was dead. She had more often than not been the third thought around Holly and Cain, and even her acting abilities had been silenced when she proved too violent for their tastes. Just once, she wanted to be needed. Wanted. Desired. And she wasn't sure that she would ever get that.

Then, she did something that shocked her, probably as much as it was going to shock him. But for the time being, he seemed like a perfect person to rely on. Literally. She turned the same direction as him, facing out into the canyon, and then bit her lip before leaning to rest her head on his shoulder. "Do you ever wonder what life would have been like if somebody hadn't died? If life had gone perfectly right instead of horribly wrong?" Maybe it was a philosophical question, but she needed to ask it. She didn't even expect an answer. No, as it was right now, she wouldn't have blamed him if he took off running as fast as he could after she leaned her head on him. Something about physical contact probably freaked him out since he rarely had an interactions with people. But this was Kilani. If you were in her circle, you got touched.

For the first time since he had sat down with her, Kilani had caught Romulus off guard completely with her question about wanting to be needed. Sure most people wanted to feel a connection with other people so they didn't feel so alone in the world, but Rome was always so sure that he didn't want nor need that. He hadn't really given much thought to whether or not he wanted to feel liked by somebody else. He had a twin brother that he never gave much thought about after killing him, and he was quite certain that Remus had never liked him to begin with. Did he want to feel liked and needed by someone else? As much as he desperately wanted to shout out no, there was a tiny, tiny piece of himself that said yes. Was that the little piece of humanity that still clung to him despite how hard he tried not to feel it? Rome looked back at the red head as her own green eyes looked at him and for the first time he felt like he could want to be liked by someone. It was a strange feeling that he couldn't accurately describe because it was all too new to him. "I would want you to come home." Rome said quietly, surprising even himself with his words. "I mean, it would be a shame for you to die in the arena and some weakling from district eleven or something win." It was a sad attempt at a cover up, but it was much less awkward for him than ending at his first statement.

As if things couldn't get more awkward for him, he watched as Kilani moved herself beside him so that her head could rest on his shoulder. It was like a volcano or something was threatening to explode inside him as his spine went rigid at the touch. The thing that surprised him the most was that it wasn't as awful as he thought it would be, though it was still very much awkward and uncomfortable for him. But he didn't shake her head off of him and instead just sat there staring out at the canyon. Another off putting question came from his red headed companion and again he found himself thinking about things he tried hard not to. He had often wondered what it would have been like if his parents had never been killed. He wondered if he would be the way he was if they were still alive and he wasn't forced to grow up poor and in an orphanage and teased as a young kid by his peers. Rome was almost certain that he would have been very different, but nothing was going to change things now.

"I used to think about it as a kid but not so much anymore. Maybe this is just how things were supposed to be? Maybe we're just supposed to miserable like this." Rome finally replied after a few moments of silence as he thought about her question. Rome had never known life to be perfect or right, just rough and difficult. That's how his life had been growing up and that was all he knew. He also knew that life had been hard for Kilani as well, and maybe that was why he hung around her more than anyone else. He wasn't entirely sure.

how far can goats fly?
Sharing is caring. That was something they taught you in school, when you were but a mere five years old. Whether or not you actually listened to it, was up to you, but most of the time people listened. But did that saying work the other way? Did caring mean sharing? Sometimes, if you cared about something, or someone, you shared things with them right? But what about the times when you knew something that could hurt the other person? She had never really cared what anybody thought of her. If they crossed her in the wrong way, she struck them down. That was how she worked. It was easier to act like nobody could ever hurt her, touch her emotionally and mentally. Easier than trying to figure out how to deal with proper human emotions. But everybody had a boiling point. She could only stuff emotions down so long, act like nothing was wrong for a certain amount of time, before it was like an erupting volcano. All her emotions came crashing down. That was where she was close to just then. Close to breaking down. It was hard to pretend like she didn't care, when she so obviously did.

Sitting there with Rome, it gave her a comfort zone. Maybe he didn't want to be there, she felt his spine stiffen when she rested her head on his shoulder, but he hadn't run off. She wasn't sure what to do with herself, and all these emotions. Lately, brutally training hadn't been helping. It was too routine for her. She was too easily lost into her own thoughts, which lately had been of the philosophical sort like the questions she had just asked. That was one sign that she was close to breaking. Sure, she thought about them in the middle of the night when she had trouble sleeping, but voicing them to another person? That was not like her. And his answer surprised her even more, saying he would want her to come home. Why was that? What was she to him?

"I don't think it's fair. Who the fuck gets to decide how I live?" Her response was meant to have a bite to it. It just sounded extremely defeated to her. There was no fight behind it. Then, she was sitting up again, and wiping the back of her hand at her eyes, trying not to cry. Tears were weakness. She was strong. She was a survivor. She was invincible... wasn't she? "I don't know what to do anymore. I keep training, but it doesn't feel right. I keep thinking there should be more. Like I should be doing more. But I don't know what" She spoke quietly, fiddling with the hem of her shirt, still trying to blink tears back. This was ridiculous. She shouldn't be crying. She should just burn the box that they were sitting on and then go make another kid cry. That was the normal Kils.

so um yeah.

It seemed like ever since he had really become friends with Kilani that his comfort zone was constantly being tested. He knew how to be around people from a distance without having to actually talk or interact with them, but being this close was so foreign to him. Add in the social norms where one should be comforting and reassuring and he was all sorts of horrible. He didn't know how to tell people that things were going to be alright when he was pretty certain that they wouldn't be. He wasn't optimistic or pessimistic, he was just realistic. Things in life rarely were alright and he knew that all too well. His parents were killed and he was left an orphan alongside his twin brother. His brother tried to get in the way of his studies and he killed him. Then his uncle who was really his father because his mother cheated on her husband told him that he had killed his parents, and so he killed them. There was nothing alright about that. Not one thing.

So there was no way that Rome would be able to comfort Kilani and tell her things would be okay and that they would get better. He would be lying through his teeth and he tried to avoid lying as much as possible. Avoiding the truth and being elusive maybe, but never lying. It just wasn't who he was. Most people who had someone resting their head on their shoulder would have wrapped an arm around them and said some comforting words, but not Rome. The idea of putting his arm around her made him even more uncomfortable than he already was, and he did not want to go there.

"Life isn't fair, Kils. That's the whole point." Rome replied in a quiet voice, his eyes glancing between the canyon and the red haired girl beside him. Life was anything but fair, especially towards people who actually deserved for things to be fair. Kilani had been through a lot too and she deserved something good for once. There was a minute part of him that wanted to be the one to give her that, but he wasn't even sure he could. There was nothing good about him. His brows furrowed together as she sat up and rubbed her eyes with the heels of her hands. Was she about to cry? He hoped not because he was not good with tears. Tears made him panic and want to run away or hit something, and he was not going to hit her. "I don't know either, Kils." He honestly had no idea what to do or expect in life, and for the most part he just went with however the days went. "Do you want me to take you home?" He asked her somewhat awkwardly because he had no idea how to help her feel better or what to do. This was one of the very reasons he didn't get involved with people. They confused him too much.
