It had been a very long time since Lemon had last seen the first boy to have survived interrogation by her older sister and still want to pursue a date with her. Ever since she had first met Wyatt Sawyer, she knew there was something special about him that she just didn't see in most people. Call it being a hopeless romantic or whatever you wanted, but it was true. He was the first boy to ever serenade her with a guitar and he had even taught her how to play simple songs on it so far. He even risked getting caught to sneak into district eight so they could have a midnight picnic in her backyard under the stars. If that wasn't romantic, Lemon didn't know what was. And now it was her turn to repay the favour by sneaking out of her district to find him and surprise him. The only problem was that she had no idea where in the district he lived. Instead of going through all the trouble of asking around to find out where he lived, she decided to send him a letter beforehand to get him to meet her in the woods.

Living in district eight meant that it was easy to get clothes that would fit other districts. They were the producers of all the fabrics and textiles that were used across the country, and it was easy for her to get her hands on some plaid material and a pair of dark jeans. She found some white material with different shades of red plaid squares and she spent the greater part of the day working on getting the shirt to look just right. Luckily for Lemon she was getting quite skilled with a sewing machine and designing clothes that didn't look like something you'd dress a doll in. After the shirt was made and she found a pair of jeans that looked close to the kind Wyatt wore for work, Lemon twirled a few times in front of her mirror to make sure she looked nice. Not only did she want to fit in around district seven, she wanted to make sure she looked cute for Wyatt. Normally she wasn't super concerned with how she looked when she was around the district, but growing up with Minta as an older sister she knew that being presentable and nice looking was important too. Not that she would go to the extremes like her sister did by wearing sky high heels even when pregnant, but she'd still look nicer than she usually did. She left her hair worn down but brushed it until it was silky to the touch and fell in nice waves around her face and shoulders. She wore a light amount of eye make up and a small touch of lip gloss to make her lips shiny.

After she was all ready to go, Lemon put a coat on and grabbed the basket she had prepared for the date. She was following Wyatt's lead of another picnic, but she also had a surprise for him hidden under the basket that she hoped he would like. She had spent many hours making it by hand and if he didn't like it, it would probably crush her. Lemon sneaked out of the house unnoticed and quickly made her way through the district using the back roads until she found herself near the broken parts of the fence that bordered her district. She paused long enough to make sure no one was following her and that no peace keepers had spotted her before she slipped beyond the border. The trek through the woods was a long one, mostly because she got lost a few time and wasn't entirely sure where district seven was. She tried to remember the direction he had always headed after hanging out in the clearing and hoped that it was accurate. After walking for ages, she finally came across the hole in the fence to what she believed to be district seven. She carefully stepped through and made her way to a spot in the woods that looked private and hidden away from the rest of the district. She began to pull out a blanket and placed it on the ground before pulling out some of the food she had prepared for them. Lemon sat down on the blanket and pulled her legs up against her chest to rest her chin on her knees while she waited. She hoped Wyatt had gotten her letter and would eventually find her.

Wyatt Sawyer was pretty happy today, and it was for a few reasons—though some were better than others. For one, Wyatt was pretty happy that he had skipped school once more and put in some extra time with the rest of his coworkers in the forest. While most teenagers went to school so they could avoid the long hours and the demanding quotas, Wyatt liked the time he was able to make beats out in the forest where no one would bother him, or where he could train endlessly with an axe. After being reaped and then miraculously saved, Wyatt knew that he really did need to pick up his game, because if he had been in this year’s arena he wouldn’t be standing around right now. In his spare time, and when Wyatt knew he was truly alone, he had picked up an axe and began to train with it as best as possible over the years. People had never taken Wyatt seriously enough to think that he had any sort of offensive skill, but the truth was that he did and one day he could unleash it and rub it in everyone elses face. Because that was what a mature seventeen year old boy did. But with each thwack the axe made against the tree trunk, Wyatt smiled because he felt like he was in a good place.

Beyond the school skipping and his axe understanding Wyatt was also pretty happy that his love life was taking a positive turn, while he skirted around his brothers recent heartbreak. Wyatt had never been a fan of Hazel Groves, it wasn’t that there was anything wrong with her—in fact she was probably the nicest person on the face of the planet, but she was a complete wimp to Wyatt. The face that she was a lumberjack and would cry over the trees being cut down made him want to bang his head against a solid set of bark for hours and hours. Maybe if she had been a flower picker instead of a lumberjack, Wyatt could have appreciated her a little more, but he always pictured his older brother with someone who could handle themselves and Hazel—from what he saw—wasn’t it. But Wyatt had never stepped in the way of his brothers happiness, and he was as supportive as humanly possible and now was there for Colton during this sad time of a break up. It just made him smile selfishly on the inside that he had Lemon all to himself, and she was already out of the district so the heartbreak of a move was non-existent.

Speaking of Lemon, Wyatt took a step back from the tree he had been cutting and watched as it fell swiftly to the ground with an enormous thud. It was a beautiful thing really, watching something as large as Godzilla fall to the ground like a work of art. But it happened right on time, because Wyatt had a date to get to. Sprinting a bit to put his precious axe away, Wyatt punched out on his time card and then took the letter Lemon had sent him out of her pocket. Now Lemon, for as beautiful and sweet and loving as she was clearly had never been to District Seven. As Wyatt re-read the note he banged his head against the nearest tree and groaned. Wyatt really really really liked Lemon, he did, but at the moment she was more of a pastel colored Lemon rather than the brightest and shiniest one in the whole produce section. ‘we can meet in the woods was what she wrote but Wyatt looked around he brought his palm to his face with a groan. Telling someone who lived in District Seven to meet you in the woods was like taking a map of Panem out, drawing a big red X on the whole district and writing you are here. But it was up to Wyatt to find his little Lemon of love and just see where she had ended up. It took a while for Wyatt to find her, hopefully not too long because he didn’t want to be late, but searching the forest of Seven wasn’t exactly the easiest thing. For a while Wyatt had stuck to the fence until he realized she’d probably be closer to the side where he came and went for the clearing and soon enough he found her looking more adorable than ever with a picnic set up. Leaning against the nearest tree and grinning from ear to ear Wyatt wished he had remember to pick a few flowers for her or something. “Why hello there beautiful, are you lost?

If Lemon had really taken into account that district seven was the lumber district and the primary source of income for most of the residents were from chopping down trees, she probably would have realized that when she told Wyatt to meet her in the woods she should have been a bit more specific. This thought hadn't registered in her head until she had already sent the letter and was on her way to seven for their date. She should have mentioned something in the letter about meeting him somewhere nearby the fence where he usually came in and out of the district. It would have been easier for the both of them if she had. Lemon mentally kicked herself the entire walk over about her lapse in judgement and she hoped that Wyatt would be able to find her before it got too late and she had to sneak back home. It would be devastating if she had gone through all that effort for a picnic date and was unable to see him.

Lemon was a true romantic at heart and it wasn't very often that she got to show it or embrace it. She was the opposite of her sister in this way since Minta had never really been that focused on romance or love. Her career was much more important to her until she had Azalea and things changed a bit for her. Lemon had always dreamed of that whole fairytale scenario of meeting a guy and falling head over heels in love and having a beautiful wedding and eventually a family of her own. Even amongst the death and despair of the Games around her all the time, it never hindered her ability to be optimistic and full of life and hope. It was only recently when she had nearly lost Wyatt to the Games that she realized even more how important love and hope were. Seeing that older boy Brody volunteer for her boyfriend made her believe in fate. It made her believe that she was supposed to be with Wyatt and he was supposed to be with her and not even the Games were going to take that away from them. If Brody hadn't volunteered for Wyatt and he had been forced into the arena, Lemon wasn't sure if he would make it home to her again. She knew he would have done everything he possibly could but surviving in the Games was against the odds. Lemon didn't know what she would have done if she had to watch her boyfriend whom she was quite certain she loved fight for his life on the television.

As she sat with her knees pulled up to her chest and her chin resting on them, Lemon let her mind wander for a bit. Her dark hair fell on loose waves around her face as she stared off into the forest and listened to the sounds around her. There were birds chirping to one another from the tree tops and the occasional squirrel chattering about. Lemon loved the sound of nature, something she rarely got to experience back in district eight. Her district was full of factories and old buildings and there was very little nature if at all. They had the odd tree and plant around the district but it was nothing compared to seven. It was so beautiful here, and she could imagine herself living here one day if things headed in that direction. At the sound of his words, Lemon's head shot up from her knees so fast she became a little dizzy. A silly smile spread across her glossy lips as she looked at him, and there was an unmistakeable glow on her cheeks. "Not anymore. You've found me." Lemon replied with a grin as she got up from her spot on the blanket and moved over to him to pull him into a hug. With her arms wrapped around his neck and her body against his, Lemon felt truly happy and at ease for the first time in months.

Relationships were a tricky thing to maintain, especially while you lived in different places and love was supposed to be kept within your limits—literally. Wyatt had had his fair share of girls fawning around his feet, there were the handful that he had skipped to follow after if they happened to be walking past him in the market, but none of these teenage romances had ever lasted long. It didn’t matter how many beautiful chords he played on his guitar, how many flowers he picked out of the neighbors yard to make bouquets or how long he could hang by the railing of the ferris wheel for—things always ended the same. Girls had never found Wyatt to be “long term” material, whatever in the name of hell that meant, and every time he thought things were going great there was a girl with a classic line to tell him they were over. The problem in the opinion of the female population in District Seven was that Wyatt Sawyer wasn’t serious enough. Wyatt mentally scoffed at this though, of course he was serious. Sure, he may not have been a workaholic like his dad or brother, and yeah he may have skipped school for the third time this week but he still had goals! He was still plenty serious about life and how to properly treat a lady and so on and so forth. Oh, and food. He was quite serious about his appetite and how he could easily take down Colton in a pie eating contest, it was important to him after all. But Wyatt was also serious on how much he adored Lemon Hale and how much he wanted to fall in love with her. He thought he already did love the sweet girl from District Eight that he had sang to but he didn’t want to rush into things. Then he would just be proving the rest of the world right; that he was just as flighty as he was before and fell in love much too quickly. But then again mentally Wyatt was waving—yes waving, all of his fucks away and out into the rest of the forest.

With Lemon wrapped around him, Wyatts arms instinctively went around her waist to pull her even closer. “Well it wasn’t too hard, I know where to find my beautiful girl” he answered with a grin. Oh Wyatt, unlike his older brother Wyatt had never had a problem being suave. It was just something that happened to him naturally. The leaves on the trees turned colors in the autumn and wyatt sawyer had always been a smooth talker. It was nature, simply nature. But with Lemon things were different, he didn’t even think about what he should be saying to score the maximum amount of points with her. What came out of his mouth was the most honest it was going to get. She was his beautiful girl, and he was really proud to call her that. He loved the way the light sparkled in her eyes and the way her whole face lit up when she was honestly happy. It was something that made him smile like a kid in a candy store to see. Her beauty was just so expressive and one of a kind and Wyatt had known from the one time in the clearing that there would never be another Lemon Hale, and if she didn’t go out with him there was something horribly wrong with the way the Earth was turning. She was this perfect little package from her looks to her personality; Lemon Hale was this little magical entity that had captured Wyatts heart. And there was nothing wrong with that. In fact, all Wyatt wanted to do was sit around and stare at her and how cute she was and a part of him thought he could probably persuade her to let him do just that. Of course, he was a guy and he did want to eventually find his way around the baseball diamond, butttt for now he was happy holding her tight and peering over at the picnic she had set up. “Did you bring our last date with you love?

Lemon had always been a hopeless romantic ever since she was a little girl. She was the type of person who chose to see the good in people and believed that people weren't truly bad, they just had their moments. Lemon was the little girl in the classroom who talked to everyone and wanted to be their friend, the type of person who would welcome the new kid with a wide smile that showed which teeth she was missing. Lemon had a bright smile that didn't stop at the corners of her lips but rather spread to her eyes and the rest of her face. It was the type that lit up a room and one that you couldn't help but smile in return to. Her happiness and her good nature was contagious, even to her sister Minta on occasion who was anything but friendly. Love was something that Lemon appreciated and enjoyed more than happiness. As a child she would watch her parents interact and how in they love they were, and it even spread to her watching couples walking down the streets holding hands. Any sign of affection Lemon just absolutely adored and wanted it for herself. And now she finally had that with Wyatt.

Most people were a little hesitant when it came to telling someone that they loved them, but that was not the case with Lemon. As soon as she knew for sure what she was feeling was love she would not hesitate to tell whomever she was dating. In this case it was Wyatt, her first real and, as far as she was concerned, serious boyfriend. He may not have been her first kiss, and she was certainly not his, but he was definitely the first person she had ever felt this way about before. Lemon was quite certain that she loved the dark haired boy with the guitar skills that made her swoon, she just hadn't had the time or opportunity to tell him yet. It was not something that she could declare in a letter or have someone pass along a message to him for. It was something that had to be said in person for it to be truly special and meaningful. And Lemon hoped that their second official date after all this time would be the time that she would tell him. It was something she couldn't keep to herself any longer because she thought she would explode.

Feeling his arms wrap around her waist and hugging her to him, Lemon felt her body practically melt against his. She breathed in the familiar pine scent and faint smell of metallic guitar strings that was his scent and exhaled slowly with a happy sigh. It had been much too long since she had held him like this, let alone be able to smell him again. After their last date, her dressed had started to smell a little like him after cuddling on the blanket in her yard for a few hours and she had been reluctant to wash it in fear of losing that smell. But now she was holding Wyatt again and all was right in the world for her once more. "I've missed you so much, Wy." Lemon whispered as she pulled back slightly from the embrace to look up into his eyes. It had been so long since she had been able to look into them and she didn't want to take that for granted, especially after having gotten so close to losing him to the Games. "I'm so glad you're here with me." Lemon smiled at him as she pulled a hand from behind his neck to brush her thumb against his cheek and then move through his hair. She just wanted to touch him all over, make sure that she wasn't dreaming all of this up and was really still in bed and completely late for the date.

When it was very clear to her that she was not dreaming, Lemon blinked and pulled back from him entirely except to hold his hand. She looked over at the picnic that she had set up and she flushed a little at his words. "I loved our last date so much I thought we could do it again. Though this time it will be more special." Lemon admitted as she tugged gently on his hand before leading him over to where the blanket was and sat down. Now Lemon was starting to get a little nervous as the three little words that she had been dying to say were getting closer to being said. She watched him quietly, her eyes grazing his face and pausing briefly at his lips before jumping back to his eyes. She needed to just spit it out already and stop with the suspense. "I-I love you, Wyatt Sawyer." Lemon blurted out, blushing a deep red in the cheeks as she looked at him and then dropped her gaze to her lap where her hands fidgeted. There, she had said it. She meant it more than she had ever meant anything, but she was worried that he might not feel the same way. And now she would have to wait and see what happened next.
