Avoiding the drama at the campsite Ember made his way to where he heard the strange hollow noises. It took a little while to find as the grass was unbroken and a few meanderings about the spot finally yielded an echoing ‘thump’. Kneeling down he parted the grass but saw nothing different about the ground at all yet hitting it with his fist brought back echoing sounds that meant there was something hollow underneath it.

Ember looked over his shoulder to where he thought Ryan had followed.

Ryan followed Ember hesitantly he hadn't yet gotten a good chance to investigate the woods since he had awaken here and didn't know what sort of animals lived here.

he caught up to Ember quickly, moving threw the forest with ease till he saw where Ember had crouched down, he could hear the dull but hollow thudding sound as Embers fist hit the ground, that was a little odd he thought to himself..

obviously it was man made, but people had come from all parts of this island saying there was no sign of any sort of "resident" well at least he assumed they probubly would have mentioned it if they had...

"huh..."
he said wondering about the hollow sound just as Ember was.

"maybe its down a little deeper, must have been here for quite a while and grown right under..."

he knelt down beside Ember and began pulling up the grass and dirt with his hands. till his fingers scraped against something solid

Ember followed Ryan in clearing up the grass, outlining the shape of the hatch and sweeping the rest of the dirt away. The metal was rusted and pitted from being underground so long. Ember gave the handle a twist and a tug but it was jammed shut. Following the outline again he tried to find where it would open and seeing the little crack between the hatch and the ground he stuck his fingers between that but prying it open was to no avail. The metal it was made from was really thick.

“this must have been made by somebody! Do you know who?” asked Ember. “and for what purpose too? It must be really deep, the echo takes so long to fade out.”

Looking at it again, he thought he saw something written on it but it could have just been the rust.

“I haven’t seen anything like it on the island and I’ve been wandering about here for the last few days.”

the fact that someone made this at some point was a little unnerving... maybe this isn't the first time a bunch of strangers from all over time and place have woken up on this island, the door did look thick... otherwise he would have run back and grabbed his small ax and broke it open..

"no one said anything about this when they joined our camp.. unless they walked over it and just didn't even know it? this is only the second day iv been here and i was pretty freaked, i bet some people could have run over it and not even noticed or something..."

he sat back against a tree, he wondered how deep it could be, i mean this wasn't a huge island, so it would be hard to build anything TOO deep without special equipment to get rid of all the water and whatever...

great now he was going to have something else to worry about..

"Maybe theres other hatches? more entries to whatever is under there..."

he wondered aloud.. he had this creepy feeling of some person living under this island, probubly having something to do with everyone being there or maybe knowing how they got there...

“More hatches? That could mean more islands. And more islands could mean more people, maybe even a settlement. We don’t have to be the first ones here, maybe those people would have some answers…”

Ember tried to imagine what could be under the hatch; supplies, people, maybe ammunition and weapons - wait, why weapons? Shaking his head Ember thought again. It wouldn’t have stuff in it, it sounded too deep and empty. He had an idea.

“Maybe it’s a connection to other islands,” Ember started thinking out loud, it felt almost like an old habit from somewhere. “Or maybe it’s a service shaft. I might not have memories of a time before awakening here but there’s something too strange about this island, something unnatural…”

His thoughts drifted off to the idea of it being a service shaft. It would mean there was a machine underneath.

“…but what for? A machine to bring people here? Why? And who services it? It’s too strange… we HAVE to find a way to get this thing open!”


(Bluundi you’re so cruel… making us wonder! I hope I don’t do anything to screw up your plans for the hatch :C )

( I'm loving every minute of this..srsly some of your characters thoughts might be more accurate then you might think.....But I should probably state this now this particular hatch ain't opening anytime soon XD )

Ryan tried to keep up with his own thoughts and Embers.

"hmm leading to other islands?..."

he thought, remembering the island him and a few others swore they saw this morning, only to find it gone almost as quickly as it had appeared...

he didn't mention it before because he knew how crazy it sounded... but ember mentioned something about unnatural...

"well there was this other island..."

he said slowly, waiting for Ember to call him a crazy person..

"but its gone now... but a few others saw it too... but maybe theres more? i haven't really walked around the island to look out at the water...

An island… that was gone? Ember did not think it crazy because he so far had no knowledge of what was normal and approached it as merely a problem.

“Hmm… maybe the islands are moving?” that could add to the theory of a machine underneath them. Everything on this island was so clean, no insects, no humid insufferable air, everything still and perfect with animals only seeming to appear as soon as the people… unnatural. But how did he know that?

Ember shook his head trying to clear it, all these thoughts in his head were making his brain itch. What was important right now was figuring out what was going on, the rest could come later. Suddenly he realised he’d been staring off into nowhere, fiddling with his pendant, again for a while now. Remembering where that got him the last time he quickly snapped himself out of it.

Dry washing his hands to get rid of all the dirt from clearing the hatch Ember got to his feet, brushing the dirt from his trousers.

“I doubt this hatch is opening any time soon,” he said nodding at it. “but what now? We need some plan of action for this and we need to figure it out. This island isn’t big, it would take a day? Maybe two to walk around it. If you saw that other island maybe we could see it again, maybe we could find something else that can help us, maybe we‘ll find even more people… The question is do we go off on our own or do we tell everybody else about it.”



(particular hatch? Does that mean a different hatch will open first? And when are we gonna meet those birds :C I think I’ve set up a pretty good opportunity to encounter them =3 )
