Just a random thought I was discussing with my friends earlier...

In your opinion, was Adolf Hitler evil or simply misguided. Or was he just insane??

I want to hear what you guys think...

Truly I think he was Misguided. Got the wrong idea, then it grew from there.

That's kinda what I think. In the broad scheme of things, his actions led to horrible consequences and bad outcomes, but to an extent, he thought he was doing the right thing and making the world a better place eventually...

I think it's really all of the above...

He was misguided by Satan, which made him a very evil man... and evil makes people go insane. I think only an insane person could think he was justified in doing what he did.

Oh no, I don't think he's justified. But I don't think he was evil either. I don't think you're evil if you honestly think that what you are doing is the right thing. It just means that you're misguided.

Austin, you could look at your opinion in a different light, though. Satan thinks what he's doing is the right thing. He thinks we should follow him because he's got better ideas. He thinks it's right to tempt us and make us miserable. Would you say that he is misguided, or is he evil?

I think that at first he was misguided. Now he could be considered evil. However, it's interesting to note that nowhere in all of the scriptures is Satan directly described as "evil".

QUOTE
2 Nephi 2:17-18

17 And I, Lehi, according to the things which I have read, must needs suppose that an angel of God, according to that which is written, had fallen from heaven; wherefore, he became a devil, having sought that which was evil before God.
18 And because he had fallen from heaven, and had become miserable forever, he sought also the misery of all mankind. Wherefore, he said unto Eve, yea, even that old serpent, who is the devil, who is the father of all lies, wherefore he said: Partake of the forbidden fruit, and ye shall not die, but ye shall be as God, knowing good and evil.

This shows that Lucifer, at one point, was a righteous being just like us. He lived with us, walked with us, talked with us, etc. He was, and still is, a son of God. And so, I would say that Satan is not pure evil. He, just like everybody else, has good in him somewhere, he has just turned away from the good and embraced the bad. That is what I believe makes him misguided and not evil.
