Weyr Cove Monachikos Weyr has been built into the southern half of a previously volcanic island, and unlike any other Weyr, it doesn't really have a Weyrbowl. Instead, all of the individual weyrs open out on to this bay, carved into the high stone cliffs. It is a shallow bay but deep enough for ships, and protected enough from the storms that often rage through. Dragons of course are free to fly around all they want, but if a human wants to visit they'll have to keep on the docks, because there is no beach between the cliffs and the water.

Plateau In lieu of a Weyrbowl, anything requiring ground space is done on the high plateau over the cliffs surrounding the bay. Here are found the corrals, which are quite large and full of lush grass and herdbeasts and wherries. A river runs through the plateau, dividing it in two pieces - east and west. On each of these sides sits a mountain, the east just slightly larger than the west. Everything done outdoors - and most things are - are done here, and whenever there isn't a storm people and dragons can be seen out enjoying the air.

Infirmary The infirmary of Monachikos is cut into the western mountain opposite the hatching caverns. Large tunnels lead into it, barred by wooden doors when the weather turns bad, but usually left open. Several areas exist within for dealing with different kinds of ailments, with several rooms for long-term patients. Directly next to this section is a much larger and more airy cavern for healing dragons and whers. This also opens out on to the plateau, with tarps nearby to keep out bad weather. As infirmaries go it's one of the friendlier ones, but it's still generally avoided by passersby.

Craft Shops Not every craft has its specific area at the Weyr, but many do. These are situated at the level of the plateau, cut into the mountains. There's a smithy with several large shops and a few forges to deal with metal and also glass. There's a workshop for woodcrafters near the forest which is constantly dusty. There's a set of rooms for the harpers, both classrooms for teaching and rooms where instruments can be constructed. The weavers have their space. One that is less liked is the tanner workshop, which also doubles as a butcher. The smell from it is not much liked by much of anyone, but it's far too valuable to leave out.

Inner Caverns For everything not done indoors, there are the extensive inner caverns, found both under the plateau and within the east and west mountains. Here are found the candidate barracks, the kitchens, living space for weyrfolk, storage space. Anything that would be found in a more traditional Weyr. It can be reached through halls from any of the rider weyrs, as well as from the docks and a few staircases down from the plateau. Usually, though, the inner caverns are where people go to work, and play happens instead up on the plateau.

Administrative Center This area of the Weyr is situated just over the dragon hatching caverns, accessible both by dragons who can drop people off on the ledge, and by stairs up either side of the entrance to the hatching cavern. Within is a large rounded area with an opening in the floor that looks down on the hatching sands - surrounded by a railing of course to keep people from falling through. Around this are a bunch of doors that lead to offices for Wingleaders and Craftmasters, with the largest doors directly opposite the entrance leading back to the council room.

Rider Weyrs There is space enough at Monachikos for five hundred dragons and riders, their quarters quite well-furnished for a smaller Weyr. The weyrs themselves come in several styles, but all of them have several dragons to a ledge. This is because they extend pretty far into the cliffs to give the dragons some shelter during bad storms. Riders can choose who they room next to, and there's space enough that many have their own ledge. Something that is particularly appreciated is that every two weyrs have their own bathroom, furnished with running water and a bath. Most weyrs are found drilled into the cliffs surrounding the bay, but queen dragons are housed in the eastern mountain, just over the hatching caverns.

Wher Complex The wherhandlers are housed inside the western mountain, in a complex carved from what was once a great magma chamber. Here there is space for whers to gather, all of their rooms, offices, storage. All within the safety of darkness, so that whers may roam even during the day. Many hallways and tunnels connect this complex to the rest of the Weyr, both to the inner caverns and the plateau, so that people can travel in and out without much trouble. There is plenty of room for the whers even if it isn't a very large facility, whers not being very prolific on this somewhat small island.

Candidate Barracks The candidate barracks are located on the first level under the plateau, a great long hallway of rooms that stretches from the dragon hatching sands back to the wher hatching sands, with other hallways and staircases that lead both up to the plateau and down into the inner caverns. It is a wide hallway, and one that is not simply straight but curved to allow small areas with couches and chairs, little sections surrounded by rooms designed to house two people comfortably, and maybe three with less comfort. Bathrooms are shared between sections of rooms, all ruled and policed by the candidatemasters.

Weyrling Barracks After hatching, a dragon and its new rider move into the weyrling barracks, which will be their home for the next turn or so. There are three main sections to these barracks, which correspond to the three weyrling wings. At any time one or two may be empty, but there's room enough in case they're all filled out. Weyrlings don't have rooms so much as areas, a space with a bed and some room for personal belongings, and a larger area for the dragon to sleep. With a large area set aside in the middle for lectures. Not the most private of accommodations, but this is to encourage camaraderie between weyrlings and to discourage breakage of the first rule of weyrlinghood.

Wherling Barracks As with the weyrlings, wherlings are housed in communal spaces, with areas for each of the three wherling battalions. Wherlings get a bed and a wher hollow, space for a few personal possessions and chains and tethers in case the wher must be restrained. Usually these remain unused. There is also space in the middle of each room for lectures, and wherlings are free to talk among themselves and make friends. There are also supplies kept in each room, and cleanliness is mandated by the wherlingmasters.

Hatching Caverns Monachikos Weyr supports three hatching sands for their dragons, built into the east mountain. One large entrance leads into the main sands, large enough for several small dragons to fly through at once. Humans can also walk in, and then directly down into the stands, which are below the level of the plateau. The sands are lower still, and surprisingly pale after the dark stone the Weyr is carved from. The stands stretch nearly halfway around the sands, with wide ramps around the walls that lead down to the sand. Along the back wall there are the large entrances to the two side caverns, as well as a couch for the clutch mother and a small room for her rider. When the time comes for a clutch to hatch, candidates can come in directly from their barracks, through a passage that cuts through the stands directly to the sand.
