The door opened with a loud screech, a tall man appearing in the hall. By the looks of him, he couldn't be more than 20, although one could easily notice his strenght. The muscles swelled his deer skin clothing, making it look a few numbers too small. It seemed as if he could break your bones by merely resting your hand upon your shoulder.

Mark's thoughts were gloomy today. The king had yet again risen the taxes, just before announcing a decreasement in the salaries of the population. One of his friends lost his cow only moments ago. Mark was well aware this friend's family was going to starve now.

The young man carried anger in his eyes. Not just now-always. There was always this icy wrath in his deep green orbs. Nobody knew why. All they could do was guess.

Mark dropped down onto a dusty seat, calling up the tavern owner and ordering a beer. He patted his pocket ad coins clattered. He had enough to last for about two days. That was why he needed a job-and he needed it urgently.

Before, there was always a job for him.But not a real one-he'd mostly hunt. Now, with this new king on the throne, hunting was not allowed and his equipment was taken away.

Damn, I wish for an opportunity to kill the bloody bastard!
He thought, sipping his beer violently.

Alfred walked to the door and pushed them, when he entered he thought fearing that the rebels will recognise the man that sells supplies to their enemys:

"Stay calm Alfred, there are no rebels in here, even if there were some they couldn't harm you, the people see a man in a black coat, boots, gloves and a hood, not old Alfred, the hermit."

He sat down on a chair and saw a man drinking a beer.

Alfred whispered:

"If someone could just want a job.",

and then he secretly looked at the other man in the hall to see his response.

What was that? Were his ears serving him right? A job?

Mark couldn't believe how incredibly lucky he was. But before making any assumptions, he eyed the man in the black coat.
He couldn't see his face, which was suspicious right away. He was hiding, that meant. But from whom? The rebels or the king?Don't be pesky now, Mark.
He warned himself. He knew he didn't have the luxury of choosing. He had to make do with what he had.

Perhaps this was his golden opportunity...or perhaps it was his doom. He surely wasn't going to find out by doing nothing.
Wiping his mouth with his sleeve, he fixed his gaze on the man.
"What kind of job?"

As if you care.
This was correct. He couldn't afford to care. Yet he had to start the conversation somehow. In a way more subtle than with 'I need a job'.

Alfred smled as he heard the other man speak, he couldn't belive that the first man he met that day wants to work for him. Alfred whispered:

"Each day you would go to the wild chestnut forest where you will meet a group of rebels and you will sell them some supplies, you will get 20% of the profits, but first you must tell me your name, surename and do you have any contacts in the rebel army."

Alfred decided he will not tell his asisstant about him selling supplies to the king's army because he dosent look like he likes him really much.
He drawed his axe and said silently:

"If you ever tell anybody about this, you are dead. You will be killed by me or my dear Celt brother"

Alfred put the axe on the table and thought:

I belive I was persuasive enough.

Were his ears serving him fine? The rebels? Of all people in this world, they were the ones he'd most like to assist. He liked the way this man was straightforward with him, not evasive and subtle as he himself attempted to be. Perhaps he trusted him? or was he just too tired of hiding and waiting, so he got straigh to the point? It didn't matter much. Mark was just forming his reply, but the man was faster.

"If you ever tell anybody about this, you are dead. You will be killed by me or my dear Celt brother"

This was something Mark disliked. Threatening him, wasn't he? He felt his blod boil. He has had enough of threatening within his life. He was not going to be intimidated by a man with an axe. Not with his muscles and his strength. He was confident he could take this man on any time.

"Now listen here...mister." He said, his voice determined and curt, "I may be desperate for a job...and I might have to take this thing you're offering. But under no circumstances will I be threatend by you or your puny Celtic-ass brother. If that's clear, I'd like to take the job."

Alfred nearly exploded when he heard that desperate peasant speak. He did not expect him to be glad because he threatend him, but such a rsponse he did not expect, even from this starving serf. Alfred looked at the man, and then said:

"This Celt-ass brother of mine could kill you easily and with pleasure, and as long as you work for me you shall be threatend. Not by me, of course, but by the royal army itself if they find out about your job. We wouln't want that, would we?"

Alfred smiled after he said that. Now he expected that this peasant would be angry because it was obvious that if the peasant tries to do anything, alfred would report him to the so-called "lawmen" who really were the greatest criminals in the town, or in the entire kingdom.
