Characteristics
Description: Standing approximately 6'1" and weighing about 214 pounds, Rowan is leanly muscular and exceptionally well-toned, having focused on deep tissue strength and endurance in lieu of an overly muscled physique. His eyes are a pale, icy blue and he has blond hair that he generally keeps cut and scruff on his chin. He moves with a slow, easy gait most of the time, because generally he is exercising his body by increasing his own personal gravity, but when he relents he seems exceptionally graceful and energetically light on his feet for someone his size. He tends to smile a lot and gives the impression that he's easily approachable.

Personality: Rowan is a casual sort, though he exercises and trains rigorously because he has an ever abiding sense that someday, maybe sooner than he thinks, the humans will rise up. In most cases he’s curiously inquisitive and if not the most chatty type, understands that sometimes he’s a bit bookish and not as easily approachable as he would like to be. However as seemingly easy going and carefree as he often is, in conflict he is a tyrant, generally going for the jugular once someone has gotten him riled up enough to fight in the first place. In most cases he prefers to avoid conflict. He has no compunctions about stealing from banks and the like though he generally sticks to insured sums. He has yet to find his place in the world so is busy casting his line, metaphorically speaking.

Powers
Powers:

Warp Form: Rowan can alter his physiology to radically warp his immediate physical environment. In this form he consists of multiple overlapping singularities, which render his form completely black and indistinct. Energy attacks that strike or come too close to him are simply absorbed by the gravity wells inside him. Someone punching or stabbing him directly with a weapon is inexorably pulled through his physique and shunted out the other side, usually with a strong case of nausea and accompanying disorientation. Solid projectiles that strike him are shunted back toward their point of origin with even greater force in most cases, though this doesn’t mean they will automatically strike anyone.

In this form his powers are far more limited in scope. While in warp form Rowan doesn’t require things like air, water, food, or light by which to see as he perceives things as complex gravitational fields instead.

Gravikinesis: Rowan possesses the ability to mentally manipulate gravitons, enabling him to control gravity. He can surround any object or person, including himself; with gravitons or anti-gravitons, thus increasing or decreasing the effects of gravity upon them. By increasing the pull of gravity beneath his opponents, he can pin them to the ground, make their limbs too heavy to move or cause sufficient gravitational stress to impair the normal functioning of the human cardiovascular system, causing victims to slip into unconsciousness. By decreasing them he can simply discombobulate a target or rocket it skyward. He can temporarily imbue inanimate objects with enough gravity so that they exert their own gravitational fields to such an extent that they can attract nearby matter and warp nearby energy fields or projections.

Focus/Limitations: Rowan can focus on up to three different effects at a time.

The first and foremost usually being managing any gravitational variables in his immediate vicinity (roughly 3 meters) as one of those, whether he’s flying while maintaining a force field around his person and manipulated aspects of his armor, all of these count as one. He can however at the same time achieve a variety of other unrelated affects, like pinning enemies to a wall imbued with crippling gravitational potency, while projecting destructively concentrated beams of gravitational energy, or lifting the entirety of a a city block into Earth’s orbit. (etc.) But no more than two effects in addition to any personal he might be overseeing.

His effective range limit is just over a 1000 meter diameter around him. The exact limit of how much he can manipulate in terms of weight is rendered mostly irrelevant since his power alters the effects of gravity itself, rendering any limit more a product of how much he can affect as opposed to how much it might weigh.

By concentrating for an extended period of time on a given task, he can imbue an object with an independent resonant gravity field, allowing him to keep objects (up to the max range of his ability in terms of size) floating indefinitely, continuing to do so even if he sleeps or were rendered unconscious, etc.. Something small could essentially be levitated in this fashion for decades, whereas something as large as his full range, (ie. 2000 cubic meters of mass) would require him to renew its resonance field every six months. (It’s worth noting that the field would collapse slowly, so the mass would gradually sink back down to earth, not just plummet.)

He can achieve similar quick effects, such as rendering specific items ultra-heavy and thereby locking them effectively into place or grant them enough in the way of anti-gravity to keep them suspended in mid-air as well, but these effects last for hours or minutes at most.

Flight: By manipulating gravitons and anti-gravitons Rowan can fly at any speed or height at which he can still breathe, though he can utilize his warp form or generate a force field around his body which would allow him to exceed these limitations and even capture enough air to breath in space. Normally he doesn’t exceed Mach 10 in an atmosphere, but he can create a localized vacuum for brief periods and achieve speeds far in excess of this. In the vacuum of space, assuming he can breathe and is properly protected it's unknown just how fast he can fly.

Teleportation: While in warp form, Rowan can cause a localized warping of time and space and effectively teleport to any place he is familiar with or can see.

Graviton Blasts/Force Field Generation: By rapidly projecting gravitons in a cohesive beam, he can generate devastating force blasts that can destroy most structures and vehicles with a single blast. These blasts can be pinpoint or broad enough to threaten an entire building. He can also create gravitational force fields capable of protecting him or others from any concussive force up to and including a small nuclear weapon.

Gravitational Attunement: He can bestow the power of self-propelled flight on up to a dozen people independent of his location, though he can also take this power away with a thought. (This is similar in form to how he creates resonance between objects, but grants the person control over their flight.) Rowan can detect extra-dimensional shifts and phased or invisible objects or beings through his immediate awareness of gravitational shifts. This allows him to sense things even in complete darkness and/or in lieu of utilizing his other senses.

Skills:

Athleticism: Rowan is an athlete easily on par with the best in the world. An accomplished decathlete, he utilizes his powers to make things tougher on himself in day to day life, effectively exercising himself just by walking and going about life. In this way he has honed his strength and endurance to impressive degrees.

Elite Spec-Ops Training: Though he no longer remembers where he learned his skills from Rowan has the full-gambit in terms of training from such varied clandestine governmental groups as the S.E.A.L. training, NSA, Israeli Mossad, British S.A.S., Russian Spetsnaz, and S.H.I.E.L.D. covert and Spec-Ops Training. He is an expert marksman and hand to hand combatant in a variety of different styles.

Multilingual: Speaks German, French, English, Swedish, Danish and has only just learned Mandarin Chinese.

At MIT Rowan was pursuing degrees in applied physics and quantum theory. As intelligent as anyone with a pair of geniuses in their fields for parents and the willingness to apply themselves, he doesn't have a whole lot in the way of social skills and is guarded around most.

Equipment:

Warp Armor: Composed of synthetic materials, all of which have been rendered non-magnetic, this armor has been specially treated to maintain its functionality when reshaped and is mostly proof against the destructive qualities of touching his warp form. For the most part, the suit only allows him a large array of objects which he can cast at foes and then alter so that they keep them pinned down or held in place via one of his gravity fields. The suit mimics wings, but these are individual pieces and little more than a ruse, that do nothing to promote flight. The armor allows him to keep in touch and relay encoded data (sight, sound, location, etc.) with anyone utilizing the right frequency and gear if desired.


Limitations:

While in warp form Rowan can't utilize his gravity manipulation powers to do more than keep himself aloft or fly (if he doesn't hover or fly his body will take in the immediate matter he's standing on and redirect it back at itself, creating a field of perpetually crumbling debris beneath him. (Unless he's on or in water or some similar medium.) When he touches others while in warp form they feel pain, but are not pulled apart.

Warping his physiology is physically debilitating and tires Rowan, at present; he can likely only stay in this form for roughly 4 hours at most, otherwise he can utilize his powers at peak strength for roughly 8 hours. By carefully metering out the usage of his powers he could potentially exercise them (at non-peak levels) for up to 18 hours before requiring rest.

Outside his warp form, unless he's generating a force field; he is as susceptible to any form of attack as your average human being. Potent energy attacks can greatly reduce the amount of time he can maintain his warp form. And he is always as susceptible as any normal human to telepathic, magical and likely other forms of attack.


Origin Story

Rowan Hawthorne was born in Oslo, Norway to a Scottish father and a French mother. His father was a noted authority on applied physics and his mother on quantum theory and while neither was around all the time they did their best to see that young Rowan went to the best schools and had a relatively comfortable childhood. Unlike most mutants Rowan' powers didn't manifest on their own, possibly because he never suffered from a major traumatic event. In school he was well-liked, maybe even popular.

When he turned 6 his parents uprooted him from their home in Oslo and moved to Geneva, Switzerland where they both began working at CERN and its Large Hadron Collider facility. While his parents avidly pursued their love for science, young Rowan excelled in school both in general and specialized studies as well as in more physical pursuits, most of his motivation stemming from trying to impress his parents and garner their much desired attention and approval. A track and field star by the age of 18 he became a decathlete and while he didn't win every decathlon he participated in he did well in all of them and won a few.

Also during that year he was treated to an opportunity to visit his parent's workplace and see the Hadron Collider at work, however shortly after arriving, as the collider was already in use and performing a 7 TeV test he began to feel sick and excused himself. His parents and the other scientists in attendance were likewise engrossed in a sudden spike that dissipated and never repeated itself once Rowan had gotten a fair distance away in the elevator.

That evening, making dinner for himself; his parents spent days at a time engrossed in their work at the project, his powers first manifested and he found himself floating up off the floor and bumping off the ceiling. Possessing the same detached focus that both his parents possessed and because mutants had already made themselves known rather than panicking he set about trying to find out whether it was an inborn manifestation or a byproduct of some accidental exposure to something at CERN. The likelihood of it being a freak accident that had no affect on any of the other staff present, which he discovered hadn't been the case after a quick, albeit difficult to make phone call, led him to believe he was a mutant.

When next he had his parents at home he discussed his desire to go to the states and study at MIT. Not big on reputations, though they were reluctant they allowed it on the condition that he could earn at least a partial scholarship. It took some time and more than a little effort but eventually he managed to meet his parent's conditions and after applying for a student visa flew to the United States to begin his education. He soon discovered that America was a hotbed of political infighting and backbiting, where the mutant controversy like racism in its day, were dividing people into diametrically opposed camps.

Though he had been learning to use and control his powers in private since he first discovered them, as in his adopted home of Switzerland; Rowan preferred to stay neutral and avoid the conflict altogether, instead focusing his efforts on science. One evening in the SUB while picking at dinner and reading source material for a thesis that was due in a week, the televisions showed a mutant protest turning into an impromptu riot. It was the things said by some of his friends sitting with him and nearby that galvanized him to action.

He had thought that science was a higher calling and that petty things like racism and species division didn't really touch upon people who had relegated those things to be unimportant in the greater pursuit of science and making a better world for all, but evidently he was wrong. Shortly after finishing that semester he decided it was more important to play an active role in the rapidly developing situation. Since he didn't want to cause grief for his parents and technically couldn't remain in the USA if he weren't a full-time student, he used his powers to teleport directly into a bank vault he had previously scouted and robbed it after business hours.

Having dropped out of school and no longer dependent upon his parents for income he isn’t sure what he wants to do with his life. More recently, he has found himself within a secure anti-mutant location called Hostel–IV with all sorts of high-tech paraphernalia. Remembering that he had set a bug deeper in the bowels of Hostel–IV, he set the entire facility on high-alert after using his mutant powers to literally force a half-dozen guards to the floor and retrieve the bug. Then he tore a hole in the bulkhead of the oil rig and flew off into the night…
