[NOTE]: This was a rant intended for my ethics class, formatting of grammar or content has not been changed.

This is something that rather recently hit me, after quite a while of thought. I’ve been thinking rather non-stop since class about the whole religion thing. Not only am I unsure of where I stand, but I’ve been thinking about the whole Christian God thing.
What if they got it wrong? I don’t mean “What if they’re believing in a god that doesn’t exist?” I very much believe in going along with religion while arguing it, using their own logic against them. When I say, “What if they got it wrong?” I mean, what if they’re worshipping the wrong half? Let’s start with something that was heavily beat on Thursday in class; the issue of “free will.”

We argued that the reason for sin is that God allows free will. I’m not sure about everyone else, but I see a little incongruity. He hands down “Commandments” or rules that we must follow. At this moment alone, free will is gone in its entirety. He just told us what we can and can’t do! Free will is defined as independent choice. It is a voluntary decision. Just right here, he has delivered to us rules to shape our decisions! While it’s true that we still can deny his rules, we’re still bound to them! Even if we go against them, we may first hesitate, or later feel guilty because of them. We are eternally bound to these rules the moment we acknowledge them. Being that he’s given us things to shape our will, it is no longer free. Thus, he has no granted us this “free will” everyone claims that he has. He has given us “limited will”.

I don’t believe that our Creator did that though. Notice the word Creator. I did not say God, I said Creator. Let me introduce to you two latin words; “Lux” and “Ferre”. Lux means “light” and ferre means “to bring”. These are the root words making up the name “Lucifer”, often attributed with Satan, the adversary of God. Wouldn’t it seem that something that brings light would be the good side? Light is often believed to be attributed to truth; “Shedding light on a situation”, “bringing it to a new light”. Looking at it this way, wouldn’t this mean that he brings moral truth? Sure, that’s just jumping to a conclusion. However, keep in mind that the name of God’s adversary is directly associated with Light and bringing it.

So, would it be a stretch to consider the possibility that the God we worship is not the Creator, but the banisher of The Creator? Lucifer was banished from heaven, was he not? The Creator could have given us free will. The adversary of The Creator would be the one who sent us Commandments to restrict that very free will. I can imagine the adversary of The Creator also smearing The Creator’s name, and claiming the title of God himself. His goal is to undermine The Creator’s power. However, he gave us free will, thus, he doesn’t care. He figures, if they want to believe in this adversary, they should be allowed to. It’s their choice.

Recently, the book of Job was brought to our attention. In it, Job is horribly mistreated. It has been asked “How could an all loving God allow this to happen?” My theory is simple. It wasn’t an all loving God that caused this to happen. Instead, it was a way for The Creator to allow us free will. It raises questions even in the minds of Christians. What if, while it was still Lucifer who posed this gamble to God, we reword that to say that “The Creator posed this gamble to his Adversary”. He still lost it, there’s no denying that. However, what if there’s a much larger gamble going on? What if the true gamble between the two is one originally proposed by The Creator’s adversary? What if it was something like “I bet that I can get 100% of the world to believe in me.”

A god who allows free will would make no appearances, or even begin communication to people. A god who allows free will would make no effort to change the course of humanity. They would simply say “Do what you wish. He would not pass down commandments to guide us, we have free will, and he intended for us to have free will. He would not have caused the whole “Burning Bush” incident, because that influences will! That takes away free will! Thus, being that The Creator created us with free will, and has no intention of taking that away, he would not have made the burning bush! He would not have caused the plagues on the pharaoh! He would not have even tried to let the jews out of Egypt! He would have said “Free will, do what you want.” Thus, it was NOT The Creator who did that, but instead the Adversary!

What I’m trying to get at here can be phrased much simpler. “What if Christians are really worshipping Satan.” Satan means “Adversary”, and he would quite literally be the adversary of The Creator. To ensure his place in religion, he would have smeared Lucifer’s name, cast him out of Heaven, and made the Christian world look down upon him, paint horrible pictures of him, and steered people away from his teaching of free will. Thus, Christianity would be worshipping something other than God.

Does this sound like any other theory you know of? I have not heard it yet? I assume someone’s already thought about it?

You know, I've never thought of it that way. You really have me thinking now. ;P

Thinking is for those without impulse. This is why I suck at strategy games.

Strange..Maybe I think impulsively.
I generally sit there when playing something like fire emblem and impulsively go back and forth between people until I decide which is going to do more damage

Kudos to you, pointing out points that few managed point out, much less to think about. Also we're talking about the same book that says "do not judge", and yet
they're some of the most judgemental people today.

Endgame.

By the way, I just lost the game.
