just a few hundred feet down from the hotel, you'll find yourself on the white sand shores of seorak beach. as a public area, the beach is often crowded on good weathered days.

If you walk up the hill to the south, you can find trails to Naksansa Temple, which is well worth the time and effort to visit. If you have a car, then you can just shoot back down the highway and then drive up the service road to the temple. It's one of the largest temples I'd seen in the country, and it's one of only a few seaside temples in the country. Most of the site was burned away by a wildfire in 2005, but was almost completely restored by the next year. there is a stone statue of Buddha called Haesugwaneumsang. It is the largest of its kind in the asia, and can be seen from as far as Mulchi Harbor.

Sokcho is a city in Gangwon-do province, South Korea. It is located in the far northeast of Gangwon-do. Lying north of the 38th parallel, the city belonged to North Korea from 1945 until the end of the Korean War, when the dividing line between the two Korean states was officially altered. Consequently, many of the population have relatives in North Korea. Today, Sokcho receives a number of tourists attracted by the closeness to the DMZ. ROK Army 102th Armored Brigade Headquarters is a military base right by mulchi air strip. nearby they have an ammunition depot and also a firing range. the base is relatively near the border of north korea, so the soldiers tend to be a little tense at times.

Seoraksan National Park is open two hours before sunrise to two hours before sunset. it's one of the most beautiful national parks in South Korea. Try and visit on a clearer day because if you climb to the peaks there isn't much to see from the top except for clouds when visibility is low. Buses get you from Sokcho to the park within 15 minutes. The park has a variety of routes which are well marked and i.e. lead to the Ulsanbawi peak, Biryong Waterfall, Geumganggul Cave, Biseondae, etc. Also, a cable car runs to Gwongeumseong Fortress and takes about 10 minutes to ascend to the top. The view is stunning except for cloudy days when you can't see much. It has stunning nature, beautiful temples, a giant Buddha statue and scenic rivers. The park can be quite crowded at ground level but the higher you get the less people you will see. A variety of food places provide with drinks and meals along all the routes.
