KISS: Is it true that you have a split personality?
Shawn: Should I say I have a dual disposition, indeed a little. My disposition is very complex, you see... I am usually not a talkative type of person, I always live in my own world. Only in front of friends I'm familiar with can I be lively and merry cracking jokes and other stuff.

KISS: Besides acting and singing, what other work do you enjoy doing?
Shawn: I like to spend time at home. I sacrifice my other hobbies such as strolling and socializing with quality time with my family especially my sister who I love very much.

KISS: Has your career now been worth it?
Shawn: To be honest with you, well, my salary has paid off. However, a celebrity has lesser time with friends than an ordinary person. As a celebrity, most wishes in my personal life are impossible to fulfill with all the appointments I have on my schedule.

KISS: Your younger sister still goes to school, doesn't she? Do her schoolmates know you're her older brother?
Shawn: Yes, she still goes to school until now, but only very few of her schoomates know that I am her elder brother. She doesn't really want her schoolmates to know that she has a sibling who's a famous star. She likes to appear as a normal person in front of them.

KISS: You and your sister have similar names, isn't that right?
Shawn: Right, she also likes to tell others our names in English. My name is Yu Wen Le, hers is Yu Wen Qi. Our names are common therefore easy to remember.

KISS: How many friends do you have currently?
Shawn: Not many. Just 12 who are my true friends.

KISS: The media has been spreading rumours about you. How do you feel about this?
Shawn: I believe that not everything written on the newspaper is true. Some people should be smart enough to be able to determine when a news article is false. I now have learnt to ignore these false rumours, because people are still growing. During my debut, I almost collapsed when I was in front of the media! Everyday, I'd be on the risk of being followed by reporters. I get nervous on how to deal with them. The media can get crazy at times. Most of the news about me before were all negative.

KISS: At that time, how did you manage the negative news on you?
Shawn: I told my boss they were all just rumours. And I told myself to just be calm so my reputation won't be destroyed by the media. I hoped they wouldn't affect my family as well.

KISS: With the tough competition in the world of Hong Kong Pop music, do you feel pressured all the time?
Shawn: The pressure is unavoidable but I try to avoid it as much as possible.

KISS: Are you interested in fashion?
Shawn: Yes, I am, as a matter of fact, ever since childhood. I glance at fashion magazines from time to time, so I am not ignorant when it comes to fashion. I don't wear a fashionable attire when there's no occasion. But when there's a huge party or award show that I have to attend, then I'd probably wear something special.

KISS: Where do you usually shop at for clothes?
Shawn: The signature brand doesn't matter much for me. That's where people are wrong. Not all celebrities wear signature clothing. There are actually some who simply buy bargain-priced clothing secretively. Cheap clothing is alright as long as it looks good on you. And just because they're cheap doesn't mean they have low quality.

KISS: Do you like matching clothes?
Shawn: It's important for me to match my clothes with my shoes. I've got many many pairs of shoes in my house to match with my different pairs of jeans. It's up to you how you want to match them.

KISS: Do you dress gracefully or sloppily?
Shawn: I am a person with self-respect hence I cannot dress sloppily. Casual fashion isn't considered sloppy to me. I also cannot afford to wear reused clothes.

KISS: Does that mean you can't accept girls who dress sloppily?
Shawn: Absolutely. The girl must look clean and tidy because if she dresses dirtily, then that must mean her family, too, is sloppy. That would give me a bad impression of her.

KISS: Have there been scandals about you?
Shawn: Yeah! One is about resembling Nicholas Tse, especially when we were filming "Dragon and Tiger Gate" together. Another is about having girlfriends when in fact we have none. And another is about being a playboy flirting with women which is not true.

KISS: Do you have a girlfriend?
Shawn: I haven't any. I still haven't found my special one.

KISS: If you have a girlfriend, would you tell the third party about it?
Shawn: I wouldn't mind if the public knew. The only thing I'm concerned about is losing my fans' support for me with the fact that there are plenty of them, thus it would be better off concealed. We all know deep inside that love is too complicated and we each have too many qualities to find in a lover.

KISS: Are you saying you would allow your girlfriend to be hurt?
Shawn: Yes, but it's hard to say... Nothing is certain. I would take a female student, if she was my girlfriend obviously. I would deny to the media that we are in love, so to her it would be kind of an insult. That is why I mentioned earlier that I'd better be careful about the third party's reaction to it.

KISS: If, for example, it wasn't a student and it was your colleague instead, would she understand better?
Shawn: Perhaps, but for a woman it's very difficult to tell. Often, women want to let the world know who their boyfriend is. I don't think this sense of vanity is a good sign. It's a woman's kind of instinct.
