There has been a problem with modern Christian thinking that's came to my attention and I notice a lot in fellow Christians.
As Christians we are called to be "Fishers of Men."
QUOTE (Matthew 4:18-19)
As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.
The term, "Fishers of men" is spread in many parts of the New Testimate, -Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
Now what does being a fisher of men mean? This means that we as Christians are supposed to reach out to others.
QUOTE (Proverbs 27:17)
As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.
Christians grow off of others, especially other Christians.
Now for some questions and answers.
Is it okay for me to Grow on my own?
It's sometimes awkward as a new Christian to branch out, but it is extremely advised that you go to an experienced Christian to get advice to read your Bible. It's hard to read your Bible when you're not sure how to.
Is there anything wrong with keeping my religion to myself?
This is a tricky question, and modern thinking and the view the majority of the world has today has made this a dodgy question.
However, why would you keep it to yourself? Because others might make fun of you, or is it that you'd be ashamed of it?
There is a bible verse that goes with this.
QUOTE (Matthew 5:11-12(NIV))
11"Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
We are, as Christians, to follow example after Jesus. And Jesus himself was persecuted because of who he was beyond belief. According the the passage above, there are great rewards waiting for us when we are discouraged and we simply move on.
Think of it this way, when you are criticized and insulted, that means that you sparked something inside them. They got angry because of some sort of conviction. What makes somebody get so offended when you even mention the word Jesus? Funny isn't it?
So according to scripture we shouldn't be ashamed, but rejoice and be glad. We should definetely not hide it with the intent of being scared of what others think. God has that taken care of. Just remember that sometimes the best way to witness is simply living the way we live.
That is all for now and will add more later.
