From what I know....
When the band was first formed in 2001-2002 they used the name Gazette (writen in Japanese)
But than on 2006 they change they name to "The GazettE"(writen in roman) during their second album NIL release.
It been said that the change of name is because the band want to go international.
And the capital E is the different between the old name and a new name.
I hope I answer your question.....

ooo no wonder..
but i think in some cases, they still use the japanese spelling of their name..
especially in Japanese magazines..
