REGISTRATION TROUBLES

Some people have not been receiving validation emails. Until I figure out what the problem is, I will manually validate all accounts. This will continue for the next few days. If you don't receive an email within 12 hours, try posting anyway. If the post works and you appear in Group: Members, then all is well and there is no cause for concern.

CLOCK SHOWING THE WRONG TIME?

Go to My Controls, then Board Settings (under Options). The top part of this page will allow you to set the timezone and whether or not Daylight Savings (aka British Summer Time for most of you) is in effect. For most people, the current options are (GMT) Casablanca etc., with the daylight savings box ticked.

SOMEONE GETTING ON YOUR NERVES?

Click their username, then Ignore User. That'll filter out their posts, leaving a space where they made them (so you can keep track of the conversation.) There will be an option to view individual posts even if you have someone on ignore.

BELLS AND WHISTLES

No doubt you've noticed all the funky stuff in posts. Most of the interface is quite easy to get used to after a while, but here is some general information:

General Posting Functions

To manually quote someone in a post, use this:

Use the "REPLY" button to do this automatically for a single post. To quote multiple posts, use the +QUOTE button to add that post to your list, then click the "ADDREPLY" button at the bottom or top of the page. Please avoid quoting long messages only to add a one-sentence reply of your own.

To post links, use this:

Or, just type in a web address (always include the http:// tag) and it will automatically become a link.

To post an image, use this:

Avoid posting unnecessarily large images. Do not post anything pornographic or violent.

You can upload your own images using the Attachments box. Once you've used that box, simply click Add into Post in the relevant place and the image will display. As you can see, it auto-thumbnails images that are stupidly large . The image will not show in the preview, but it should work fine in the post proper.

Bold text, italic text and coloured text can all be added using BBCode. Most functions are easy enough to guess. There is a full guide to all these functions in the ADDREPLY window. When in doubt, use Guided Mode to be told exactly what to do.

Finally, you can edit and delete your own posts using the buttons at the foot of the post.

Signatures

You can use all kinds of coloured and sized text in your signature using the code described above. You can use images and links, too. Maximum dimensions for signature images are 500 pixels horizontal and/or 200 pixels vertical. Images larger than this will be removed on sight. Repeat offenders will have their signature facility disabled.

To change your signature, click on "My Controls", then "Edit Signature." The signature will be added to the foot of each post you make.

Avatars

The avatar is the wee image under your username. You can have one of these if you want. Go to "My Controls", then "Edit Avatar Settings." The options are self-explanatory enough.

General Control Settings

In "My Controls", you can set your forum options, your personal details, and everything listed above. Feel free to experiment, as these changes will only affect your account.
