She knew her son could sense her tension and it pained her to see the boy so on edge. This was it, this was her time to tell the truth. How would Brian react to discovering he had a son that was almost twelve, a son he'd never known about? The boy sat on the couch, quietly twiddling his thumbs and glancing toward the clock with the smallest of frowns. "Mom, who is coming over again?" He queried with a small pout, leaning back slightly in his seat. He seemed eager for his mother's answer and if it hadn't been for her own nervousness, she might have sated his curiosity.

Rather than answer her son, she looked toward the wall then toward the fireplace. Her eyes drank in the sight of the familiar photos. One had her in the hospital, holding a newborn Micah. Another had her and her son on a roller coaster in Busch Gardens. It was the little things they did together that mattered. She wouldn't have felt so bad, if it hadn't been for the fact her brother usually wound up paying for all of their vacations. Shaking off the thought, she finally tore her gaze away from the photos and directed it to her son.

Sometimes, the very sight of him was torture. "You will see soon enough, sweetheart." She said finally, taking a small sip of liquid courage. The small assurance did nothing to appease her son, whom was on edge and seemed ready to make a grab for one of the many knives she contained in the kitchen. It amused her, his protective nature and the way he didn't seem to noticed that his mother had a degrading job or that various men often made grabs for her. "If he tries anything, I'm going to hurt him." Micah growled, his eyes narrowing as he glared angrily at the floor in front of him. Butterflies fluttered in her stomach. "Behave yourself." She murmured, giving him a gentle nudge. Fear took hold finally when the doorbell rang. She found herself frozen in her place and grudgingly, Micah got up. "I'll answer it." He huffed and went to the door, jerking it open.

The boy glared up at his father, not having the faintest idea as to who he was. "Who are you and what do you want with my mother?" He demanded, puffing out his chest as his grip tightened on the door. She could already see that this would turn out pleasantly. She suddenly wanted to find the darkest corner and hide in it. "Micah!" Emily warned, getting up and going to her son as she rested her hands atop his shoulders and gave Brian what could only be described as an apologetic look.

She had asked her son to be nice but still, she found herself surprisingly grateful for his protective nature. "I-...hello, Brian. This is...this is Micah, my son." The boy's scowl deepened at his mother's words. Pulling away from his mother, the boy returned to his seat on the couch and pulled his legs close to his chest. "He's why...I...we stopped talking in college, he turns twelve this year." She gave her old friend a tired smile and moved away from the door to let him in.

FORGIVE ME, MY WEAKNESS
Without you it's hard to survive

Brian put his phone down after he looked at the last message sent to him. He needed to get ready for him meeting with Emily. He hadn't seen her for twelve years. There wasn't anything he wouldn't do for her. He loved her and wanted her to be safe.

Since she left he was different. After she did leave he buckled down on his schoolwork. He did not see any real reason to have any fun in college. Emily was his other half and when she left he did not feel complete. So he tried to fill the space with classes, and homework. That is why he graduated at the top of his class.

After he graduated he went to work for his father, but he inherited the business after his father died. He had a hard time dealing with his father death. He wanted to talk to Emily, but he had no way contacting her. So he dealt with it alone. It was not his best time. He actually did a whole overhaul of Maitland Archery. He was glad he did. Everything was clear and precise. If the government came and checked on his business they would find everything in order. He was making sure all his business affairs were in order.

Brian headed to the bathroom; he took a shower and changed into clean white t-shirt and blue jeans. He brushed his teeth before he left the bathroom. Then he grabbed his cellphone off the bed then he went and found his keys. Once he got them and headed out the door. He got on his motorcycle and went to Emily's house. He was looked and saw it was a nice house. His motorcycle parked and he walked up to her front door and rung the doorbell.

He was surprised when a boy answered the door. The boy glared at him, then he asked what he with his mother. Brian was sort of shocked. Emily had a son. This wasn't what he was expecting. He heard her call the boy Micah from the other room. She came over and then she placed a hand on his shoulder. She gave him an apologetic look. Emily then made the introduction to his son.

"Emily I didn't know you had a son," Brain started. Micah then scowl deepened at her words and then he left the room and went back to the couch. Brian wasn't sure what to think. Now he knew the reason why she pulled away from him in college. In his mind, he did the math. He stepped into her house. Then he turned around to look at her. "Is he mine?"

Quietly, she pushed her hair out of her face and bit her lip, looking down. "Your reputation was at stake, Brian. I couldn't allow us both to suffer because of my mistake." She glanced toward the boy and sighed weakly. "Micah James Watson, born November 5, 2001 at 11:59 PM after approximately thirty-six hours of labor. He was two weeks late and weighed nine pounds, four ounces." She pinched the bridge of her nose once more and bit her lip until she tasted the iron tang of blood.

Her nose scrunched and she eased down onto the cushion beside Micah's. "I didn't want to go to you with any of this, not until he started asking questions. I couldn't get away with telling him you loved him or that he'd see you so--.." She was cut off by Micah's noisy scoff. Before long, the boy bolted from the room and slammed his door. "Look, Brian, I don't want...I don't want you to think this is for your money or to tie you down...just...just get to know the boy, spend time with him." As subtly as she could, she began to wipe her eyes.

She hated feeling like this, so vulnerable. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have called. It was...it was a mistake." Her face had paled marginally during the short exchange, though it was certainly noticeable. She wasn't sure how much longer she could hide her feelings for the man or perhaps, they were more than evident. "Mom, you have papers to sign!" Micah's voice floated from down the hall, the angry thudding of his footsteps soon following.

His bag trailed behind him and before long, the old thing was hauled up onto a table. "We're going on a field trip to some barn and Mrs Perry wants you to sign the forms. I'll need some money for lunch, as well as a spare set of clothes." Quietly, the woman nodded at her son's words, gesturing toward her purse and after the bag had been brought to her, she rifled through it until she found her wallet. "How much?" When the query rolled off the tip of her tongue, her son held up ten fingers and quietly, she handed him a folded bill. Micah bullied the bag around for a bit and grunted, hauling out an overfilled binder that he'd probably owned since his first school year, always insisting that it was more than enough.

She signed the papers with her usual flourish and finally looked back at Brian. "If you want to leave and never speak to me again, I'll understand. It's not any worse than having your named dragged through the mud around town because you wound up getting knocked up then dropped out of college." That was a lie, it was far worse. She was just barely managing to keep herself together and soon, she imagined she'd wind up losing it all. "If you're going to go then go but don't jerk me around like some damned dog on a chain." Her tone became sharp, heavily guarded, when she spoke to him next and instantly, she regretted it, tears stinging at her eyes and threatening to flow down her face.

FORGIVE ME, MY WEAKNESS
Without you it's hard to survive

Brian watched as she pushed her hair out of her face. Then she bit her lip and looked down. Then she told him it was her mistake. She really cared about him, when he heard her comment. She really thought about him before herself. It was one of the reasons why he loves her.
"Emily this was not just your mistake. It is mine as well. Plus creating a child is not a mistake. You should not have to suffer alone." Brian said, as he watched her. Emily looked over at Micah and sighed. He listened as she told him when his son was born and how much he weighted when he came into the world. She was in labor for two days and sixteen hours. He was born a minute before November 6th. Brain heard his son was a late baby. Micah weight was healthy, he was thankful his son was born healthy. Brian watched her pinched the bridge of her nose and bit her lips. Then she scrunched her nose and then she sat down on the couch beside Micah.
He wasn't surprised for the fact she wanted to carry this on her own. He did not want her to handle all this alone. Micah's scoff then he bolted from the room. The door slammed.
"Emily, I know it is not for the money and you're not going to tie me down. Okay, I can get to know my son."
She was beginning to cry, he knew this because she wiped her eyes a few times. He did not want her to feel like this. This was a lot to handle, all this information was giving to him at one time.
"No, I am glad you called. It's not a mistake. Don't ever think that."

He saw her face paled, he hoped she was okay. Brian wanted to say more, but his mind was on the fact he had a son, who would be twelve soon. He was about to say something when Micah came out of his room. Micah told his mother she needs to sign some paper. Micah carried a bag behind him. The bag seemed like he had the bag for a long time. He had a feeling Micah wasn't going to let the bag go.

Brian watched the interaction between the two. He was glad Emily was okay. Micah was going on a field trip to a barn. Brian watched as Emily gave him the money for the field trip. She signed the paper then she looked at him.
"Emily, I am not going to leave nor am I going to stop speaking to you. I am sorry for your name being dragged through the mud. I am not going to go anyway."
Brain wasn't going to leave his family, but he would need time to digest everything. There were tears threatening to flow down her face. Brian took his hand and wiped the tears away, before they fell.
"Honey, I am just needing time to digest all this information."

He did not realize he called her honey until he said the last sentence. He didn't know how she was going to react to him calling her Honey. It was once of the nicknames he called her when they were together. It's been a really long time since they have seen one another. He didn't know anything about except what she had told him now.

She opened her mouth to say something then snapped it closed, rising slowly as the teapot whistled from the kitchen. She decided to leave it, moving toward Brian instead. She took hold of his hand and brushed the pads of her thumbs along his knuckles as a tired smile graced her lips. "Well, if nothing else, we were brought back together." Her tone was teasing, though her words held a hint of seriousness. "Maybe you can teach him archery." She suggested, releasing her hold on his hands as she finally chose to go to the kitchen, making them both a cup of tea.

Tea was...well, soothing..at least, for her. "Do you like honey in your tea? It's chamomile...the tea, I mean." She felt like such an idiot. She stirred honey into her own tea, waiting for his answer as Micah followed his mother and took a moment to glare at the sandwich he'd abandoned shortly after coming home from school. "...by the way, to answer your earlier question, I'm the top dancer at Lucky Charms; the work isn't pretty but it puts food on the table." She shrugged as if it was the most normal thing in the world to be dancing for money while men of every shape and size tried to get into your pants and waved dollar bills around.

FORGIVE ME, MY WEAKNESS
Without you it's hard to survive

Brian thought she was going to say something, but then she closed her mouth. He wondered what she was going to say to him. She wasn’t going to say it now, maybe be later on she would tell him what she was going at that moment.

He watched as she moved towards him. Then she took his hand into hers and brushed her hand along his knuckles. Then she smiled at him.
“Yes, we are are back together.” Brian said. He was glad she had called. There was nothing more then him wanted to be with her. At least he would be in her life even if it wasn’t a totally stable relationship. He would take what he could get.

She went to get the tea ready for them; he smiled as he watched her. It was a good they were brought together again. He hoped everything would go well. He knew there would be problems, but it was going to end up being okay.

"Yes, I can teach him archery, only if he wants to learn. I am not going to force him to do archery if he doesn't want to." Brain told her. He watched her get the tea ready. He watched her stir her tea for a moment. Then she asked him a question about his tea.

"Yes, I like honey in my tea."

Brain was glad she had a job. He waited for her answer to where she worked at. The Lucky Charms, he knew of the place well. Jack Clarkson was one of his best friends. They had grown up together. To know this fact she was working for him didn’t make him happy. He was going to have a talk with Jack. They were best friends. Jack knew how he felt about Emily.

Jack had Emily worked for him without telling him she in town and she was employed for him. This was not a good thing for their friendship. He was going to have a serious talk with him. Brian wanted to help her out, but didn't want her to feel like he was giving her charity or thinking she was weak.
"Well, let me know if you want any help with anything. I am here for you and Micah."

Brian leaned back in his chair. He knew he would have to figure out all this out. It would be after he left Emily and Micah home. Micah would have to have time to adjust to all that has happened. They all needed to adjust to all the information they had learned today. He would use archery to relax and go over what has happened today. It was a lot to take in. It was going to take some time for him to get all his thoughts in order. He would get home and think about what he had learned today.
