Well I talked to John about this last week or 2 weeks ago or something and I must say I got all inspired, basically the idea was that we have a really big storyline based game, using Apocalypse rules or our own or a mix of the 2.
We thought it would be cool to have a 'nid assault on an Imperial City, because there are a few Imperials naturally and we have the terrain to do it without too much making of new stuff. The only problem being the smaller numbers of 'nid players but supposedly Dan has an army in the wings and if John can get his done then it should give us a fair amount with Digl and what's left of Che's stuff (not sure how much that is). Any other players could borrow armies or be drafted in somehow.
So. The idea was that we have a big table, forest at one end fading into city at the other (using Dan and Che's city terrain and our normal forest stuff). So the 'nids attack from the forest end and we maybe build some big walls or something for the outside of the city. The Imperials would start on the walls and the 'nids run at them from the forest end and try to breach the walls. I guess we would play without number on the 'nids and possibly the defenders as well. So eventually the nids will breach the walls and move into the city. An idea I think would be cool is if the 'nids hold a building for a certain number of turns they can infest it and turn it into a spawning pool so their reserves/without number guys can come on through them instead of walking from the other end, also adds to the idea of the 'nids taking over the city and spreading through it. Then maybe have a building which contains a weapon to kill the 'nids or something and the defenders have to defend it and if they manage to they can use the weapon... I don't know. Pretty much build a narrative and then play smaller games after maybe splitting off to play each other seperately or something, mostly just on this big game though. Another idea is use Finn and Che's train and drive it from the the forest end and try to get it into the city because it has a weapon or something on it and the Imperials push out to try and reach it and maybe a few start on the train. Anyway we can write rules to make it work and any other ideas you have.
Just to put it out there and maybe get some motivation to build terrain/paint armies.
What you reckon?

I have wondered about reducing the days played in favour of longer playing sessions for reasons other than those specified above:
-A Sunday session starting at 1:30 pretty much ruins the whole day (might as well start earlier and play two games or one larger game) -We aren't paying much rent as it is, consolidating the games day into one would probably help to even things up with our hall usage and rent (although I'm not actually sure it matters)
There are also the obvious advatages stated above (we would see more of Dan and we could start organinsing some more interesting scenarios without missing dinner). I'm not sure we would see that much more of John though since Paintball is on Sundays, but if we could get him along once in a while it would be great - especially if he were playing nids rather that necrophilliacs.
I don't have too many nids left (24 stealers, a tyrant and some raveners) so I am not sure that my addition would even make a difference were John to actually get his army up and running - he must have at least 5000 points and I would say its actually much higher than that. I counted up my nids when they were at their peek and I had no trouble making 4500 and John has a fair bit more than me.
If the nid thing proves too difficult to organise because of lack of resources, I would say an imperial vs chaos game wouldn't be very hard to get going. Greg has about 3000 points (and he has just bought the new codex and started painting some more models so he is showing interest still), Robert can do at least 1500 points and Leon can add his nurgle warriors. That could make for at least 6000 points (and someone could get a hold of John's titan), and 3 a side is a good number for a main table game. More than that and people tend to get distracted.
| QUOTE | | I'm for the nids vs Imperials. If you try to include everyone it just doesn't work as stupid things will start happening, like weird alliances and all. Anyone who isn't nids or Imperials can just do something else for the day, or watch or whatever |
I agree. The game is going to look much more cinematic if the armies look cohesive.

I'm all for that. Kiddy fiddling is wrong when it isn't done in church.

I don't really mind what armies play, just that me and John discussed the Nid one and worked out some fluff/rules so it could work, but there is no reason why we couldn't adapt it for another race. I agree with Che about having the same armies used each side though, but then again the Imperials are all fairly different anyway (in terms of colour schemes). A lot of the appeal for me is in the cinematic aspect and fun more than winning (though I imagine most of you won't believe that for a second). I guess John can side with anyone because of his variety of races/plethora (I like that word) of expensive models (though I see he is attempting to sell off some Chaos stuff on Trademe at the moment).

And the Bio-Titan? Don't say you sold the Bio-Titan... The problem with having a long day is that the churchies are in on Sunday mornings so it means throwing them into the next door place and they don't like that. It is ok once in a while but if it becomes a regular thing they might start to get pissed off and then we come to the issue of who is paying more and we won't come off well there. Why not just play til later on Sundays? I know it still wastes the day but if we are talking this once a month thing an Apocalypse 5000 point game will pretty well waste the day no matter where you put it. If we go from 12 or whenever the Churchies leave til 10 or something that is 10 hours. Surely that's enough...
