with strength four they are one better than the average knight of the realm. Sure they have great weapons +1 strength and the questing vowel (reroll pschology tests, ignore panic caused by peasants). But with their inabiltity to have a lance (+2 strength on charge) preventing them from forming the lance formation (three is a rank, outside knights may attack) it makes these "special units" practiclly worse than their inferior knights of the realm as well as costing four points more.

Yeah I agree, in the previous edition they were viable because you used to get +2 strength when mounted with a great weapon. I guess when the new army book comes out they will do something to make them more viable. For now I would probably just use them as Grail Knights or just normal Knights of the Realm.

If you read the "Lance formation" rules section (pages 40-41 Brit army book) It states "Any unit of knights" may start the game or form the "Lance formation" during the game.

So YES questing knights CAN form the "Lance" following all the normal rules.
Making them a lot more playable

The "Lance formation" is just a name, Questing knights have spent years charging into battle using the "Lance formation" as knights errant, they aren't going to stop because they've swapped their weapons. It's there to represent a close packed unit of knights charging deep into a enemy unit. Not a special formation for knights with lances

Checked the Bretonnia FAQ as well, there is nothing that states or suggests otherwise.
