Went to the 12:13am showing at my local theater. There were tons of people dressed up and stuff, it was pretty crazy. I actually did wear my one Voldemort Returns t-shirt I had bought back before movie 4, but that was as far as I would go.

The movie started out really fast, going from Gringotts to Hogwarts in a matter of minutes. Once we got to Hogwarts, it slowed down and let the action go at a normal pace. The acting from everyone was good (especially Alan Rickman who shined in the pensieve scenes), and the action was well-paced.

Annoying book to movie omissions time: Glass boathouse for Shrieking Shack, nothing much about how love was the true theme for Harry's ultimate win (no speech AT ALL from Harry to Voldemort in the final confrontation although they did talk before the last battle), no real Horcruxs vs. Hallows debate, no talking to Dumbledore after the final battle and getting the original wand replaced.

These omissions were annoying, and I'm sure others of you will be more upset with some of them than I was, but I didn't mind it on the whole and thought the movie didn't really suffer from it.

So in the end, I of course highly recommend you all see the film, and I know you will. smilie_HarrryPotter2.gif

WHAT DO YOU SAY?

***SPOILERS***

I actually liked it a lot at the start, but got disappointed towards the end.

People turning into crystal... wtf? When did people die off like Star Wars characters where they just evaporate?

Nobody there to see the final confrontation was disappointing.

I would have liked Voldemort and Harry to finish the fight as they did in the book, where they circled around, Harry called him Tom a few times, and explained why the wand wasn't Voldemort's.

I was almost shocked that Neville wasn't the one who killed Voldemort in the movie. Seriously, after the first hour it may as well have been called Neville Longbottom and the Hogwarts Resistance. tongue.gif

It is funny you say that about Neville. I went with one friend last night, and he has never read the books. His comment was "So really, it was Neville who killed Voldemort. Neville killed the snake which allowed Harry to finish off Voldemort." So my friend kind of saw things the way you joked about.

Of course, seeing as how Neville was pretty much my favorite character in the book, I don't mind seeing him as a focal point.

Right now I'm feeling like it's the day after Christmas and I opened all my presents and I don't know what to do next... no more Harry Potter? I'm sorry, I don't understand... what am I supposed to do now?

Altogether I don't think it was too bad. My first impression was eh. I LOVED the first part and honestly I was quite disappointed in this one. Maybe my expectations were too high, I'm not sure.

What I was most disappointed in was the the last battle scene where Harry didn't confront Voldemort in front of everyone... that whole scene was so powerful in the books, but in the movie they tried to make it exciting with all the running around Hogwarts, jumping off cliffs, but I think it would have been more powerful left as it was in the book, with Harry emerging from under the invisibility cloak and telling Voldemort how it was.

I have other qualms, but I'm going to focus on the things I did like... Voldemort hugging Draco, Luna is just amazing in every way and steals every scene (though didn't really fancy her and Neville though it was cute), Ron sobbing over Fred (though boo no death scene).
I did and didn't like Harry telling Hermione and Ron he was going to the forest. I thought it would be more powerful and make more sense if he did it how he did in the book, but it made me tear up a bit.

I thought of all of you when I was waiting in line for 10 hours/in the theatre. Love you guys. magictm.gif

*Spoilers*

Hm my dislikes:
They didn't mention that Harry's cloak was a hallow once.
Harry broke the Elder wand before he fixed his own.
I wanted Harry to say the Elder wand was his before killing Voldemort. sad.gif
Voldie's death was a letdown in general, bit of an anti-climax.
No Ravenclaw common room sad.gif

I was actually really impressed with how the film started, but as it went on I started liking it less. Not really sure why, maybe I just started comparing it to the book too much or got my hopes up too much? I want to see it again so I can judge it better but at the minute I'd probably rank it in the middle of all the films.

I agree with all of this. The last one made me laugh though as I didn't care too much, but after Dave turned to me and was pissed because they didn't show it. lol.

I had the greatest time going to see the last film with Ivana (patricia) and Dave. I felt it really appropriate to see the movie with people I met because of it. I also personally LOVED part one, so maybe I had high expectation or something (but honestly, I always do) and I was completely let down.

I was really, really, really upset with the final battle with harry and voldy. I mean come on! They even took the time to have Dumbledore give a speech all about how words are more powerful, yadda yadda yadda. And then Harry decides to finish it the "way it started" thumbdown.gif What by embracing Voldy with a long lost hug? huh.gif

The whole point of defeating Voldemort was how Harry got under his skin (or what he has left of it) with his words and belittling him in front of the other students by calling him Tom. It was so powerful in the book and could have been equally in the movie if they didn't care so much about stupid effects. Did anything else think about the wicked witch of the west when Voldy died? I'M MELTING!!!! rolleyes.gif

I was also not a fan of the pensieve. Not the scene, those were bloody fantastic. I meant what was up with Harry throwing the top of it over to dumbledore's desk??? It was too futuristic for my liking. Again just another scene for the 3D.

Let's talk about my love of Alan Rickman though. ashamed0001.gif I was sobbing during the memory scenes. I did not cry at that part in the book at all, but the way he portrayed it all.. just wow. Standing O by me for sure.

I also liked how they went down to the CoS. It was nice to see a bit of the set for movie two. Only since when can Ron speak parseltounge??? "Harry talks in his sleep" rolleyes.gif

Let's give a round of applaus though to Prof McG!!!!!!!! She stole every scene for me. I loved her line "I always wanted to do that" And I also loved how the castle was protecting itself and the students. It gave me goosebumps. I also liked how they put like a dome of protection around the castle. I don't think it was like that in the book but it really made for a great effect in the movie (And one that was useful, not just stupid)

That's all I can think of for now, I'm sure I'll think of more later biggrin.gif

I saw it about a week ago, and I have to say I really enjoyed it...

i perhaps am not as much of a stickler for the book as you guys, but I still feel like it was an appropriate ending for the movie series... smile.gif

I <3 McGonagall

Looking back on when I saw it with Jenn and Ivana... I really think it is my favourite one so far. Possibly more because of what it represents and reminds me of smile.gif

Main things I did not like:

• Where was the Ravenclaw Common Room!? sad.gif Luna loses many points for Ravenclaw for that one.
• Final confrontation was not to my liking, should have been in the Great Hall and should have been witnessed by everyone.

Alan Rickman was immensely awesome! Was so unbelievably heart-breaking watching the pensieve scene, didn't think it was possible to feel for Snape more than before, but he completely brought the character to life.

McGonagall. Funniest. Character. Ever. Only one other word to say about her. BOOM! biggrin.gif

Where Harry's walking into the forest with the priori forms of his parents and Sirius etc, I felt was quite moving but could have been done better.

On the whole I feel that it was a fitting ending to the movies, but as with them all they could have better reflected on which parts of the books to cut, which parts needed slightly altered to work on screen and how to achieve the main aim, which is telling the story of the books. I think the movies (from GoF on) did this well overall, but the HP Geek in me would have rather had an 8 hour DH movie to get everything in it as it should be.
