Naomi gave Drew a quick hug before leaving The Leaky Cauldron, her plate still half-full of food. As Drew sat back down, he finished the last bit of food on his own plate before digging into hers. His sister had to leave early because she had plans with this guy, Peter. She'd been seeing him for a while now but still denied her brother the pleasure of meeting him. From what it sounded like, he wasn't good enough for her. But then again, the Minister could go after Naomi and Drew would find a reason to dislike him (like the fact that he's old and looks like he probably has really bad body odor). Aside from that small tidbit, Drew really had no idea why she wouldn't let him meet the guy. Which automatically made him suspicious. What if the guy was married and Naomi was knowingly the mistress? What if he was over forty? What if he was balding? Missing his teeth? Addicted to drugs? Had a foot fetish? It could be any of those things, if not more than one.
Thankfully his imagination was stalled when the waiter walked by and he quickly ordered a refill of Firewhiskey before the man ran out of sight again. He'd been rather elusive that night. He ran a hand through his hair as he waited, musing about the short workday he'd had earlier. That day he'd worked at Zonko's for the afternoon and with Hogwarts students not having that weekend off, business was slow. There had been a few stragglers and he'd managed to go over and say hey to Declan at Honeydukes for a hot second, but other than that it'd been pretty boring. Hopefully Quality Quidditch Supplies would be more interesting the next day. Instead of finding himself one full-time job, Drew had taken it upon himself to get two part-times and he was confident he'd made the right decision. Thanks to Floo Powder, he could work both in Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade in two of his favorite shops. The crowds were different, the busy times, coworkers, scenery...it was ideal for someone like him who got bored if he stayed somewhere for longer than six hours.
Of course, not everyone agreed with his logic and it was the usual suspects. His girlfriend, Sam, and his mother. Not only did they find part-time unacceptable (even though he insists that having two is the same as full-time) but they didn't even like the places where he was employed. Where would he enjoy more than a shop full of gags and another full of Quidditch Supplies? They both kept pushing him towards the Ministry which was the last thing he wanted to do. Both thought he should go for the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts or something in Muggle relations. Honestly, it was something he hadn't even looked into seriously. An office job from nine to five was not the thing for a boy like Drew Aldren.
He was drink was placed in front of him and after a quick smile and nod of thanks, Drew took a large gulp. That probably wasn't the best idea. He was already a few drinks in and still had a date with Sam coming up any minute. They'd agreed to meet for drinks after his dinner with Naomi and her extra hours at Gringotts. She had a drive that he couldn't even fathom. She not only went to work because she felt she had to have a job, she went because she actually enjoyed it. What a novel concept! Shame she didn't feel like he should have the same fulfillment. He honestly didn't resent her for bickering about his jobs, it wasn't like he was going to have them forever. He just didn't feel like jumping into anything right off the bat. Also, deep down, he knew that she was only concerned with his occupation because she cared. And you know, potentially saw an actual future with him. It was something they'd talked about, mainly when he made jokes about it, but it never really got more serious than that. Besides, he was only joking to see how she responded. Sometimes it went well, sometimes not. It really just depended on her mood.
Leaning back in his chair, he glanced around at the growing crowd, not spotting the familiar face he was looking for. There was a group of people who looked familiar over by the bar and he could have sworn one of them was Ross. And just as he stood up excitedly to go give him a bear hug, he remembered that it couldn't be him because Ross was at school. It was strange being apart from him all the time after being in the same house for six years. They kept in constant communication but it still wasn't the same. Hogwarts weekends at Hogsmeade, which there had only been one so far that year, were going to be the best times to see him. Even if he had to work, they could just hang out at Zonko's. It wasn't like it would be any different than previous years...well, other than the fact that Drew would be behind the register.
Looking around to see if Sam was near, he couldn't see through the mass of people who walked in and he could only hope she hadn't seen his spasm. She'd only mock him for thinking Ross could have been there. Sitting back down in his seat, he grabbed his glass once more and brought it to his lips, taking a smaller sip that time. Now all that was left to do was wait...and wonder what Ross was doing.

This job was number one on her list of places she would like to work. Of course if she was successful- what kind of a statement was that? When she was successful, she wouldn’t be working in the bank, she would be in Egyptian pyramids gathering gold and other treasures from pharaohs and kings from centuries before. It was exciting, the thought of delving into tombs and solving puzzles for a living. Of course Sammy would be the one to think that thinking was an exhilarating career choice. There wasn’t much you could do that had such a wide set of skills required. She loved this job so far, and she couldn’t really see it getting boring. Currently, she was late for a date with Drew, but she couldn’t blow off Ike Daily for something like that. It wasn’t that Drew wasn’t important- he actually really was. But she had to secure her future now so that later she might be able to support the two of them. Perhaps that was a lousy thing for Samantha to think- but how on earth was she supposed to sit on the sidelines and let Drew bring in part-time, hourly wages when there was a small possibility that they might be together for the rest of their lives. Don’t get Sam wrong at all, she loved him dearly, and she had toyed with the idea in the back of her head… but the math didn’t add up. How would they have a sustainable relationship when she was travelling the globe collecting magical artifacts? As much as she loved him, she couldn’t let him interfere with her plans- she would, in the end, resent him. And that was no way to live. Her pale blue eyes turned to the clock- it was a quarter past and Drew was bound to be several drinks ahead of her by now. It wasn’t that she had a problem with him drinking without her, it’s just that it took so little for her to unwind, that it was going to be really pathetic when she was sloshed far before him. Focusing back at the gold before her, Ike questioned her about where it was found, what time period it was from, and if it was goblin-made; Mayan Empire, classic period, yes. He nodded as she answered correctly, obviously pleased with all her work thus far. Her eyes shifted over to see Lucas smiling at her with an ancient goblet in his hand, and raised it in her honour, a sly smile creeping over his lips. She smiled back as Ike announced that was enough for the day. Samantha stood from her stool, tucking her hair behind her ear as she leaned for her bag on the ground by her feet. “Have any plans for the night?” Lucas’ voice was obviously quite close and when she looked up, she was proved right. His features looked hopeful until the moment she frowned at him, ”Actually, I do. Sorry, Luke, me and Drew are going for drinks.” That look on his face pained her, but for a moment, a flicker of the past came into her head- maybe it wasn’t too late for them to make up, after all, she mustered up the sweetest face possible, ”But you knooow, you haven’t talked to Drew in ages. Whatever was wrong then shouldn’t even matter anymore.” Of course that didn’t work, and Luke placed a hand on her arm for a moment before turning on his heel and walking out alone. Samantha hadn’t the faintest idea of what tore them apart, but she always had to try to patch everything up.Slinging the bag over her shoulder, Sam made her way through the hall and into the lobby, where all the goblins had already evacuated- they never stayed even a minute past time, that was for sure. She pressed open the door of Gringotts and climbed down the steps, hurrying to get to the Leaky Cauldron to meet her boyfriend. There were a few stragglers shopping in the last hour most shops were open, but Diagon Alley had cleared out considerably since she took precisely fourty-two minutes for lunch. Finally she made it outside the pub and pulled open the door to expose a rather crowded interior. The population was mostly men who had just clearly gotten off of work; it was almost as if she had stepped into a sea of business robes. Her face erupted into a smile the moment she caught site of the back of Drew’s head at a table in the midst of the crowd. However, she didn’t go straight for him, but to the bar for a drink- she had long since decided tonight she would ruffle her own feathers. Of course she planned to get drunk, this was, after all Samantha we’re talking about. At the bar, she got immediate service and was finally holding her double lemon drop. Yes, she had gone with a double tall and happily took a generous drink from it before directing herself to Drew. Sammy had approached him from behind to surprise him by swiftly setting her glass on the table and wrapping her slender arms about his shoulders and giving him a kiss on his cheek, “Hope I haven’t kept you waiting too long?” she smiled as she sat beside him, pulling her drink toward her, slipping the black straw in between her bright red lips and sipping. This was her beverage of choice, and if it were sociably acceptable to drink it at all times of the day, she just might. She smiled now reaching for his hand and grasped it; “How was dinner with your sister? I’m sorry I missed her; Ike wasn’t letting us go without a small quiz first.”For a moment, she considered telling him about Lucas’ denial to make nice, but she feared that would dampen the evening quite early and that wasn’t about to happen. She was going to have a good and jolly time. It was Friday night and she was going to get a little silly. Okay, silly didn’t begin to cover Sam while drunk- that barely scratched the surface. It was always a treat to see what she might do on these occasions. Perhaps there would be some karaoke atop the bar, or she’d lose articles of clothing with every glass… Regardless it was bound to be quite the evening.THANKS ♥ WORDS: 1088 NOTES: WOOHOO DRAMMY!

Well, Drew didn't have to wonder too long about what ol' Ross was doing at Hogwarts. He knew his best mate like the back of his hand, or actually better than the back of his hand because just that day he'd noticed a freckle on his ring finger that he'd never noticed before. Anyways, if he had to take a guess at what Ross was up to at that exact moment, it was probably tackling a mountain of homework, with a smile on his face like he was enjoying it, and probably contemplating extra credit assignments on top of it. The Wlikinson family were an ambitious group of individuals and Drew couldn't help but watch them at work with an odd combination of awe and confusion. That one trait set them apart the most from Drew and while it didn't bother him most of the time, he could tell it bothered Sammy. Ross didn't care, so it obviously wasn't that big of a deal, right?
His train of thought transitioned abruptly and without a real instigator, which wasn't uncommon for the eighteen year old, and he thought back on his sister. Other than the boy whom she was ashamed to introduce to her family (or Merlin forbid, the other way around), she just seemed to be hiding something. Naomi was that type of girl though, she liked her secrets and her privacy. How unlike her little brother. Drew was open book to his closest friends and perfect strangers. Privacy was not a notion he was at all familiar with. Privacy was for people who had something to hide and Drew, well he believed he had absolutely nothing to be ashamed of...though there are some who would beg to differ.
His thoughts evaporated as soon as the familiar pair of arms wrapped around his shoulders and his 'contemplative' look was quickly replaced with a characteristically broad grin. Merlin, she was wearing the red lipstick. There was something about a woman with red lips that made him go bananas. The alcohol wasn't helping him contain any of his more animalistic instincts. "Nope, she just left a little bit ago. She's still talking about that guy she's been seeing and it's weirding me out, Sammy," he whined. He glanced down at her drink, ah of course. What else did she ever get?
"She was upset you couldn't come too. I think she was hoping for some girl talk and for some reason, she found me lacking," he commented with a laugh. Then, an idea struck him. "Wait a second! You guys talk! Has she told you anything about this guy? Does have webbed feet? Missing a finger? Been prematurely balding since he was fifteen?" he asked her in rapid-fire. There was a chance that Naomi had talked to her about it. He knew they kept in touch and what they talked about, he was never sure. He always just liked to assume it was him because he was narcissistic like that. Shaking his head slightly he added, "But anyways, so about that quiz! Was it hard? Would I have known any of the answers?" He knew full well that he might know one or two things but his knowledge on the subject wasn't exactly extensive. Oddly enough, he probably knew more about muggle banks than wizarding ones.
Now that she was there, he didn't have to worry too much about being more drunk than her, especially after noticing the size of her glass. Tilting his head back, he had some more firewhiseky. The burning sensation in his throat just warmed him up from the inside out. Drew really wasn't a naturally jealous person but the idea of her being at work late with Lucas just popped into his head. He always seemed to forget that she worked with him. For some reason, she didn't see Lucas as the piece of trash that he was. Hell, Ross saw it even before Drew had. Lucas, there are only so many words to describe him. Former best friend turned ass, self-entitled, pompous, believes money can buy happiness, and so on and so forth. He was also slimy and wanted Samantha for himself and that was just not okay with him. It wasn't that he didn't trust her he just knows how manipulative that son of a bitch can be.
However, Lucas was like, the last thing in the world he wanted to think about right then. He turned his attention back to Sammy and offered her a smile. "Saw Declan today, he says hey," he commented, knowing that she would roll her eyes and call him a pervert or something along those lines. It was funny how much she seemed to detest him. Drew that he was a really solid guy, they had a lot of fun together. But, it wouldn't be the first person that Sam and Drew had opposing feelings about.

He had a hard time letting go of the things that were always pecking at his brain- such as his sister's relationship with a mystery man that Drew so dearly wanted to know more about. Sam, on the other hand was quite pleased that Naomi had found someone who made her happy. While Drew was ranting and raving about everything that could have possibly been wrong with the man, Sammy took another drink of her lemon drop. There was something that she loved about the drink, but more than likely it was just about her liking of lemon. Lemon bars, lemonade, lemon drops (of course), lemon candy, lemon scented cleaning supplies. Sammy was definitely a freak like that. She smiled at him, setting her drink on the table before her and turning to face him. "Drew. All I know about him is that he makes your sister happy- how is there anything wrong with that? Naomi says he's handsome and quite frankly not as obsessed with you and you are of him. Most girlfriends would be alarmed by that and they would probably peg you as a freak." She smirked at him and added, "But unfortunately I knew you were a freak a long time ago and that fact didn't stop me from loving you." She pat his cheek before planting a kiss on his lips. Something about his spastic nature just endeared her, which both frightened her and excited her. Tonight? It definitely excited her. "The quiz was easy, just about a Mayan goblin-made coin." She shrugged her shoulders, taking another sip, "Enough of work though, it's over for now, thank god!" Okay, the girl's sobriety was already fleeing, and she was only on her first glass. She had always been a lightweight, and looking at the size of the girl, you could definitely tell why. The fact that she didn't want to talk about work was the first sign that she was slipping into what was called 'drunk Sammy.' There was a night and day difference to the two- for one, drunk Sammy planned for the craziest activities she could think of. Yes. Planned craziness. That was the obvious Samantha that still translated to her drunken self. Oh yes, he had to mention Declan. The guy was honestly a creep. He was what like twenty-five and still made it his sport to hit on students and girls far too young for him? Okay, maybe it was just that the guy was the example of what Drew could turn into if he continued down the path that he was currently on. There was a bit of Samantha that hated herself for being such a critic when it came to Drew, but it was all out of love. If she didn't love him so much she wouldn't want more for him than he wanted for himself. There wasn't much more to it- she knew he was a lot more talented than he let on, which had less to do with the fact that she was frightened by his lack of motivation and more with the fact that she was going places in life while he was left to what? Working two dead-end jobs? There was so much that Samantha was worrying about that she almost forgot that tonight was reserved for fun and not all this ridiculous notions of the future and what was to become of the pair of lovebirds. "Freaking Declan. What is he up to other than hitting on school girls, drinking and rotting his teeth with all of that ridiculous candy?" her eyes flickered to her drink before her and added, "The only part I approve of is the drinking. Speaking of, I think I need another one." And with that, she downed the rest of the glass, a smile erupting across her features, eyes creasing at the corner with the bitter lemon taste that lingered in her throat for a few moments. She turned to the bar, waving and raising her glass to call for another one, "Oh, and him too! Get him another?" Samantha's head by now was buzzing and her manners were already retreating. This was definitely going to be the night she had intended on whether Drew was on board or not; hell if he wasn't always ready for Sam to get unwound. She wrapped an arm around Drew, pulling him to her. She often got handsy and really touchy with any person she was drinking with, which wasn't normally a problem if she was with the right people. The girl didn't often drink alone, so it wasn't like she would hang onto the arm of some foreign lad or anything. Sammy kissed Drew again, welcoming the lad that had brought two more glasses to their table. With a new drink before her, she ruffled Drew's hair, "God, you smell really good- is that your man musk?" All sanity was tossed into the air once she spouted those words, her telltale sign that she was in her happy place.THANKS ♥ WORDS: 850 NOTES: I'M SORRY IT TOOK SO LONG!

And of course, Samantha was right. Her being right was quite the motif in their relationship but it wasn't something that generally bothered Drew. Well, sure, a little bit but nothing he couldn't overlook. He knew that he should be happy about his sister being in a seemingly good relationship but people aren't secretive unless they have something to be secretive about, right? That was sound logic in his books. However, it seemed as though he was alone in this thought process, though he felt sure that Ross would understand if he could talk to him about it. The pang of missing his best mate was felt briefly but at least he had Sammy here with him. If she had been a year behind as well, he would be lost as to what to do with himself in the adult world. He glared at her playfully when she kissed him on the cheek and had to stop himself from rubbing it, just in case she had gotten some of the bright red lipstick on his face.
Holding his hands up in mock surprise he exclaimed, "My God, Samantha is right! Someone write this moment down, it only happens once in a blue moon!" As stated before, this happened as frequently as the moon rising at night. "Why isn't he obsessed with me? I could be his best mate just waiting to happen!" Or his biggest enemy. "Look what happened with me and your brother. He could seriously be missing out," he added with a bright smile. "And thanks for accepting me as the freak I am," he commented, reaching out to hold her hand in his own for a brief second. "I need someone with a level-head in my corner," he added with a wink. It was true, he needed her around for that. There was something about those Wilkinson children that just weren't scared to tell him when he was being irrational or crossing the line. He didn't always take it to heart but it was nice to know someone would tell him if he was royally fucking up. "Just so you know, still not sold on the guy but I'll give him a chance..." he paused for a second, "If I get to meet him in the next couple of weeks, that is."
After her exclamation about work being over, Drew raised a skeptical eyebrow. "Getting tipsy already? You're a lightweight but it's your first drink...I think we might just have a personal best going on right now," he said with a laugh. He was all too keen to drop the subject of work. It wasn't something that interested him personally but it was something Samantha thought of as highly important. If it was important to her, it was to him and he'd listen to her talk about it all day if necessary. And this had been necessary many, many times before. As long as they didn't start talking about his work, he was totally okay with the conversation. Those were the only ones that seemed to get ugly.
Alright, so maybe mentioning Declan hadn't been in Drew's best interest. Samantha honestly hated the guy and Drew thought it was unfair of her to judge him so quickly; not out of character for her but still unfair. There were parts he could understand where she was coming from. Like him being a womanizer that Drew hung out with a lot couldn't look good in Sam's eyes. He couldn't blame her for that one but she also had to be fully aware that there was no way in hell that he'd run around on her. Drew didn't know a whole lot but he did know that if he had something great, he wasn't going to do anything to fuck it up. Besides, what did another girl have to offer that Sam couldn't as well? Nothing. Not in his eyes anyways. He didn't get the chance to defend Declan because just as he was about to open his mouth, she went straight to the bar. He had a feeling this was intentional.
He really had every intention of backing up his mate when Sam came back but as soon as she had her arm around him, all of those thoughts went flying out the window. Everything was a blur except for the girl hanging onto him. Whether that was due to the alcohol he'd consumed or not, he wasn't sure. He laughed loudly, "Man musk?" He sniffed himself, "I guess so. I didn't put any cologne on," he said offhandedly, though it was obvious. He rarely ever did. He bent down to kiss her on the forehead, something he did frequently without thinking, "I've been drinking all through dinner, how are you possibly beating me?" he said with a laugh. She was a lightweight and he was not, the clear answer there. Looking at the drink before him, he took a large gulp. "I'm trying to get on your level. It looks fun," he commented with a smile before taking another gulp.

It wasn't often that the girl was wrong about things, but when she was wrong, you'll be damned to hear her admit it. She was rather prideful about that fact, it was probably one thing most people couldn't stand about the girl. But along with all her faults, there were many good things about her as well. Drew was more than willing to vouch for her on that. Sam was at least looking out for the welfare of her and her loved ones, and wouldn't allow any of them to do something that wasn't in their favor. She couldn't help but grin at his mocking tone- but it really wasn't the tone as much as the words. He had said she was right, and that was something she'd accept no matter how jokingly. It was just her fashion. When she was right, she was right. And the formal announcement of it was just as satisfying, "Damn straight I'm correct." She grinned, weaving her arms around his, her head leaning on his shoulder. For a moment she thought about what Naomi had told her about the man she met. He hadn't a thing that he had rambled about. He seemed to be a perfect gentleman. Perhaps all this obsession was the very reason Drew's sister wasn't bringing him around. Drew could be quite overwhelming at first, Sam knew this all too well. "Drew, baby, maybe you should tone it down around Nay. She's probably scared you're going to judge him harshly and then you'll scare him off. She's happy. Be happy for her? And my brother would tell you the same thing. You know that." Of course he'd mention her brother. It was still a bit of a harsh spot of conversation for her- Ross was everyone's favorite, of course. For six years, her parents had called Drew "Ross' friend" instead of Sammy's or even "Sammy's boyfriend." "You'd really be lost without me, Drew." she said. It wasn't like she was trying to further that part of their conversation, it was just meant to really get that fact in her head- not that she didn't know she was a big part of Drew.Sammy loved her job, and she didn't imagine she would ever not love it. It was her dream, but also, she had planned on having tonight to just drink and be with Drew. She wasn't about to crash the night with her going on and on about Ike Daily and her work. It would significantly dampen her evening agenda. She had been smart to walk away before Drew had a chance to reply and defend Declan. He was certainly a dipshit, and to Sammy, there was no use in defending himself, because he simply never learned. If he would quit hitting on her, she would be much more lenient with him and possibly not try and snake Drew out of hanging with the guy. Well, not really snake him out of it... but discourage it greatly. She held the drinks smoothly as she walked back to the table and sat them on the table before slinging her arms back around him- taking a large drink from her lemon drop. She was far more tipsy by choice than anything right now. On a normal day, she would let the alcohol pull her out of her shell, but tonight, she was out for fun, and there was nothing to stop her- none of his friends were present and she really had no reason to keep her walls up. Sammy's red lips smiled, resting her chin on his shoulder and staring up into his face with pale blue eyes. "I'm just glad you smell so good," she giggled, reaching her head up enough to place a couple of kisses on his jaw. She took another drink, and held the glass in her hand. "I want you on my level, Drewster." she smiled, her signature name for him in times like these. There really wasn't anything clever to become of his name, really. Samantha had tried to come up with something. After a moment, she suggested, "Maybe we should do shots." and after a couple seconds, she nodded, "We're going to do shots. And later we can play some strip poker!" Get naked. This was, definitely drunk Sammy's agenda. THANKS ¢¾ WORDS: 743 NOTES: NOT AS GOOD AS THE FIRST TIME I WROTE IT. BUT IT WORKS.

Drew had long ago learned that the quickest way to end an argument with Samantha was to simply bow his head, look like he was deep in thought, and then look up with a feign expression of epiphany and whisper, ' You're right, Sammy. I was wrong.' Her frown would turn upside down and she'd be giddy for a second, then pat him on the shoulder in almost a maternal way. It was weird but hey, it got him out of arguing and that was worth just about anything. Of course this wasn't the way all of their fights went, just the ones that he never understood how they had even got started in the first place (which was a majority of them). He could just be sitting there on the couch, watching tv and she'd come storming in there talking about how she couldn't believe he spent money on anything from Zonko's or why he still kept his toys from when he was a little kid. Bloody hell, woman! He still played with them from time to time! You don't just give up action figures for nothing. Sometimes it just seemed like she wanted to fight and would take any opportunity presented to her...why it was that way? Well, something was bothering her but whenever he'd ask she'd just tell him he needed to grow up. And then that's where the affirmation of her being right and him wrong came into play. The only times he really bothered with true retaliation was when she told him he had no direction, he would go nowhere if he didn't coop himself up in the Ministry, blah, blah, blah. It was more the repetition than the content that really got under his skin.
But now wasn't the time to think about shit like that. He was with his girl, they were having fun, and there was no reason to put a damper on the situation. It was all rainbows and sunshine and booze from here on out. But see? He'd told her she was right and now she was snaking her arm through his own, leaning against his shoulder. But of course it wasn't going to end there, she was going to make her final point and he was going to be a good boyfriend and listen. He scratched his head, "Alright, alright! You know I'm like, the least scary person ever. If he's scared of me then he's got issues," he began, already breaking the promise he'd made at the beginning of the sentence. "I mean, I'm sure he's a nice guy. I won't judge him too harshly, just make sure he's a good type," he covered. He hated the argument, if she's happy, be happy for her. "So if she was doing cocaine and it made her happy, should I be happy for her?" he teased, knowing that wasn't what she meant at all but couldn't stop himself. When she was drinking, he could sometimes win the battle of the words, but even then, he usually fell short. He looked down at her with a smile, "I know that," he said earnestly. He would be lost without her. Which was one of the reasons he was hoping he would never have to be without her.
Declan was really a nice guy, or well, okay he wasn't exactly nice but he was a hell of a lot of fun! Drew would go to him for shit, maybe not love advice or a shoulder to cry on, but he'd go to him for a good time, drinks, sweets, or just to hear the latest going-ons. Finley was the nice guy out of the two of them. Drew really liked him a lot, not just because he was a professional Quidditch player either! He was way humbler and more down to earth than Drew would have been in his position. They weren't all that close but he certainly considered Finley a friend...a friend who didn't think he was signing his life away by dating Samantha exclusively.
Alcohol could affect Samantha strongly or seemingly not at all, depending on her mood. Drew believed it had to do with logical things like how stressed she was, how much she had eaten beforehand, how sleepy she was, you know, things that affected how drunk you could get other than the amount of alcohol consumed. Sammy seemed to believe that she had the ability to control herself - she could go crazy or just sit there like a normal person. Sometimes, Drew found himself believing her but at others, he just deducted that she was trying to take control over a situation that she didn't have complete control over. He knew that had to irritate her. That night, looked like she had "decided" to be drunk. He smiled as she kissed his jaw, "Me too if this is the reward," he said with a laugh. He chuckled when she used his nickname, and she was the only person allowed to call her that. He would hit Ross upside the head whenever he tried. "I'm working on it, geez! Don't peer pressure me," he teased. He downed his drink, just to show that despite his joking tone, he was completely serious. "Whoo! Let's do it!" he cheered, grabbing her hand and leading her to the bar. Strip poker could wait until they were alone, obviously. He was a fan of public nudity, even for himself, but not for Sammy. Plus she'd be right pissy about it in the morning. He ordered them a couple shots and while they waited, he put his hand on the small of her back, one of his favorite places. Soon they were put in front of him and he grabbed his, held it up to her, "Cheers," he said with a broad smile. He was perfectly happy.

¢¾ Every moment's a revelation Make it up as we go alongAnd I'll spend this one with you Cause it's here today Gone today See the sky in motion Feel the buildings sway And give into the rhythm As the music plays I wanna catch the spark of summer Here up in your arms And dance until the morning Under wild electric stars I'm not the only one who hears the bells Or the ocean calling to me from a shell Every breath is a thing of wonder Tonight it floats away Life's a spell that we're falling under Cause here today Every moment's a revelation Make it up as we go along And I'll spend this one with you Cause it's here today Gone today Only here today It's here today---------------------------------------------Okay, so maybe she did purposefully pick fights with Drew. Wasn't that normal though? She wanted him to grow up, to be successful, to be someone she could spend the rest of her life with. You couldn't possibly live on love. It was just absolutely ridiculous that he thought you could just get by on what they had. In all reality, couples did that all the time, Samantha just couldn't see past the fact that she wanted to be right. Though in this situation, being right meant that she and Drew wouldn't be together unless something changed. She was a scaredy cat, and that was being nice about it. She liked her comfortable box in which she lived; choosing to do things and taking her conscious' advice with more than a grain of salt. What was really annoying about the girl was that she was unbearably persistant, stubborn, and hard-headed. A subject was never forgotten, and it would probably come out the very next time you even so much hinted at something wrong. She had this vault that she would pull things out from while in fights. Virtually unlimited ammo. It wasn't the moment to think about all of that; Samantha had chosen, yes chosen to be drunk tonight. Well, it wasn't like she was never going to get there naturally, but it was better to just pretend all of her inhibitions were out of her way. Things were much easier to deal with when she didn't nag herself like she did to others. Gosh! How did anyone like her again? She rolled her eyes at Drew- he had started off so well! He was going to drop it, but his mouth just took over as it always did and ruined that. "If Nay was on cocaine... I think the world would implode with just how much sense that doesn't make." She shook her head against him, making it obvious that he had not gotten away with that statement. Perhaps she wasn't drunk enough. Well, really she wasn't and she needed to be. That was probably the moment that she realized these shots were probably her best idea since... well, ever. She was working her buns off at Gringotts to compete with the other interns for the two spots as code-breakers on Gringotts' team. Of course this internship was a long-term affair; Ike Daily working close with them all the while. He was an amazing legend to Sammy; he had basically turned the entire magical history world around with one discovery. To normal people, he was just some brainy ol' fart, but to Sam, he was her boss, mentor, and hero. She aspired to be as successful as he and damnit if she was going to fail. Samantha Eyre Wilkinson didn't fail. "There's more where that came from," she gave him a flirty smile, and patted his chest after he downed the rest of his drink. That was more like it! As they swooped away to the bar for shots, she grabbed for her own glass, hardly even gotten into. She pranced with her boyfriend to the barside, where she leaned both forearms on the sleek wood finish. It was somewhat of a habit; she didn't like to stand full fledged when she was at bars- it simply gave off the feel that she was a snooty priss of a thing. And even though she could clearly be such, she wasn't tonight. Not in these moments where she forced herself to be fun. That had to make zero sense in the average mind, but Samantha wasn't exactly average. Samantha felt his hand on her lower back. It was one of those places that only your significant other should ever touch, and that was definitely fact for this young girl. She wasn't one for other people really touching her- it was a pet peeve that only people she knows are to be anywhere in her proximity- except Declan. He was to be as far away as humanly possible! When the shots came, she gingerly picked it up and toasted with him, the teeny glasses clinking softy. She put it to her lips, and leaned back as the liquid seared her tongue and swallowed, the sensation following it at a rapid pace. Her face twisted as if she had just eaten the sourest lemon, and then she chased the shot with a gulp of her lemon drop. There, now that was a proper lemon taste. She grinned, feeling her face pinken, it was always a different feeling when she did shots as opposed to other drinks- she actually did feel properly buzzed after just one. Perhaps it was just the thrill of doing it- an arm wrapped around his torso, pulling him closer. "I have a confession," she whispered with a grin playing at her features, "I'm reaaallly bad at poker."THANKS ¢¾ WORDS: 743 NOTES: NOT AS GOOD AS THE FIRST TIME I WROTE IT. BUT IT WORKS.

The fighting was something the Drew had gotten accustomed to long ago. Sure, there were times that it really annoyed him, especially when it seemed to come out of thin air, but for the most part, the consequences were worth the reward. If having Samantha be his cost more fights than he would have liked, then that was all completely worth it in his eyes. There was little he wouldn't do to keep her. If she gave him the ultimatum of not having a career at the Ministry or having her, she would win every single time. But that never seemed to be what she wanted from him, it was like he had to that because he wanted to, cause that showed some kind of maturity or something, and not just because she wanted him to. It was all a little confusing to him, actually it was really confusing to him. He wished she'd just tell him exactly what she wanted and then he'd do just that. But it always had to come across in some cryptic way that he couldn't completely understand, hence the perpetual arguments. He rarely won arguments with her, when he actually chose to fight back that is, because she seemed to have a limitless amount of crap she could use against him. She could add just about anything to an argument, no matter how random, and make it all seem connected. Or well, at least make it seem like she had some kind of crazy logic that connected them. He sometimes had a hard time linking two separate events together.
He cocked his head at her argument. That didn't make much sense, or at the very least was a poor response. He laughed, "What does that even mean?!" Maybe he just wasn't capable of thinking as deeply as she could, which was always a possibility, but he couldn't wrap his head around what she'd said. "I was just trying to use your argument against you in a hypothetical situation. She had her crazy days. You never know, maybe she did try coke once. I wouldn't rule it out," he added, wanting to keep it going. It would give her another chance to use that wit she had to put him in his place. Oddly enough, he enjoyed when she snapped back at him, at least when it was all about things like this. Not about the stuff that actually mattered...that just made him feel, well, it just kind of made him feel insufficient.
It was nice that she didn't go on and on about work. He really didn't mind listening to her, at least for a while, but the woman could go on and on. There were many things that fascinated Drew, like random shiny objects, but the world of Curse-Breaking was not high on the list. Samantha was though, so he could put up with it fairly well. But still, there were times when it just got old. Another negative aspect of those conversations was how quickly it could turn on him. She'd be talking about Gringotts one second and then his lack of an actual career the next. There was just no way he could win, not unless he took up a job at the Ministry which he'd put off for as long as humanly possible. In all honesty, a job working with Muggles wouldn't be the worst thing that could happen, but it was something he wanted to put off. He was still young, had a lot of things he wanted to do, and a lot of places he wanted to go. A career could wait until it was absolutely necessary. This wasn't something that Sam understood, sadly.
Her flirtatious smiles honestly got a little humorous the more drunk she got. They were still cute and made him want those lips on his own, but that was a constant whenever he was around her. She just got more confident, a lot more flirty, and just seemed like a completely different person. He'd always been tempted to video taper her when she was drunk and show her when sober. But he had a feeling that could lead to Sammy deciding that she wouldn't be drinking again in the near future. "I sure as hell hope so!" he responded with a laugh as she pressed her hand on his chest. She always got handsy the second she got some alcohol in her. It was like clock work. He watched as she leaned against the bar, making her ass look absolutely fabulous. And apparently he wasn't the only one as he saw a few other guys looking at it too. Drew really wasn't the jealous type, he couldn't blame them for looking. It's not like they were going to go after her...and if they did, it wouldn't end in their favor. None of them were all that attractive.
The two clinked there glasses together as Drew looked down on her with one of characteristic grins on his face. After watching her take hers, he followed suit. He had a lot of work to do if he wanted to get on her level and going shot-for-shot with one another wasn't going to help. Especially since each shot would affect her a lot more than himself. His grin widened as she wrapped her arm around him, their bodies brought closer to one another. There was no such thing as being too close to her, it was electrifying to be in such a close proximity with her. He'd heard that was one of those things that faded over time but that hadn't happened for him. Not in the slightest. He laughed. "You don't think I know that?" he teased, bending down to kiss her on the forehead. "Not that I'm opposed to that at all since we're playing strip poker," he added with a cheesy wink. "But we really do need to work on your game so you can come to Vegas with me one day," he added. He'd been dropping hints about future plans a lot recently, trying to see what her reaction was. As long as she remained positive about them, then he knew what needed to happen. And it would happen sooner rather than later.

There was so much ammuntion she kept stored in the back of her mind, and it was all just too valuable. Not like she wanted to hurt anyone over things, she just didn't like to run out of ways to prove she was right. Being correct just wasn't something she liked to be- she had to be. She would make more connections with completely unrelated subjects than anyone could even fathom. Samantha was that girl- she brought up anything in any conversation to make her point valid. Or sound like it was valid. Something just held her back from admitting she was wrong. Those words were unspeakable- and if they ever left her mouth, she would hate herself. Well, she had, very few times admitted she was wrong, but that was normally the end of it all. Everyone- especially Drew- knew that if she said it, then she meant it, and she absolutely had nothing more to say. The look on Drew's face said it all. Samantha had delved too deep in the logic pool for him to come and join. Well, maybe not in the logic pool, but she was just making no sense to him. A smirk splayed across her lips, and replied in the most know-it-all tone she could muster in her buzzed state. "It means that Nay wouldn't do that. She may have had these 'wild days,'" she made air quotes with her middle and fore fingers, "She didn't do coke and you know it." Her eyes sparkled in the low light of the pub, challenging him to argue with her. These were the types of playful spats that were welcomed to both of them. It was fun for them both- Samantha got to be her usual smart self and Drew got to enjoy their teasing and see her be all too pleased with herself. This was all fun and games, unless of course, Sam turned it into a heated debate on his future. She loved to plan and organize her life. But right now, there were two maps. One led them both on a path together, hand in hand. the other was more grim, and accounted for only Sam. It was hard for her to ponder about the latter; she truly loved Drew with all that she was. But what were the real chances these two had for an eternity together? They were two separate people with varying opinions and visions for life. At the end of the day, was love really enough to keep them together? Someone had to budge, rather, Sam had to. Sam was the one who had strict lines to stay in, and planned time for those spontaneous things. Drew was the key to that part of her, but when she let down the gates and acted her age, all she could keep thinking was 'how can this last forever?' How could they defeat the odds and make it down that path- the plan. He hated plans- they just didn't allow time for the rush he lived for. He liked to live for the day, and worry about tomorrow when it came while she would worry until she just didn't have anything else. This plan, the one that involved Drew was the one she wanted most. They would have kids and a home and they would both go to work, come home and have those kids to look at and to love as much as they loved eachother. But the odds were highly against them. Here in her buzzed state, though, she was all too happy to ignore her inner voice and let loose and be drunken Sammy. This was the childish Sammy, the one who didn't have to babysit Drew as she had done on more than one occasion. Things were just fuzzy around the edges when she drank and that was enough for her to let loose. These were the times she loved to define their relationship with- not all the arguments she had started or even just the thoughts that passed through her head about him on a day-to-day basis. Sam almost couldn't keep her hands off Drew- not like that was any problem with him. He got to give a silent notice to all others in the room that she was with him and they should definitely be jealous. Samantha hadn't really even looked at anyone else in the Leaky Cauldron except the barkeep. Had any one of them approached her while she was in this state- or any state really- they would have gotten snide remarks and evil glances. Samantha didn't mind those she knew talking to her- or even innocent flirting like with Harrison Scamander. But strange men in bars were not allowed to come onto her. They would promptly regret it and be snuffed by the woman. She smiled against his shoulder as her kissed her forehead. That was one thing that could drive the girl wild. Anything he did had that effect. He was her exception to the rules, and no matter what, she would keep hold of him. Only he could talk her down from being angry or just smile and pur those butterflies in her stomach. He was a gift- the most precious thing to her... which was saying a lot because work was pretty high up there too. These shots weren't going to throw Drew into the same drunken mess they would to her, and after little deliberation, she asked the bartender for an entire bottle of firewhiskey and the room key. Sam wasn't going to have Drew haul her drunken ass all the way home, and had pre-reserved one of the rooms upstairs. Things just worked that way with her- Drew knew about her constant planning and with this sort of thing? He'd probably appreciate it. while waiting, she shook her head, "I think if you helped my skill any then you'd end up in those knickers before you got to see a collarbone. Now, isn't that more fun than a trip to Vegas?" Not that she wouldn't like a trip somewhere with him. She adored travelling, and if he was with her? She'd go pretty much anywhere. He had been bringing up trip ideas recently, and she really didn't know why- but she wasn't going to snub this vague planning. She would, however, encourage it. "But if you'd like, I'll definitely work on my skill and show all those guys in the States that I'm better than you at poker."The bartender returned to them with a rather large bottle and a key and placed it before the pair. With a grin, she picked up the bottle and shoved it in his hands while grabbing the key in her own. "How's about we make this a private party?" She winked, red lips swooping in for a kiss before sauntering off to the staircase. Sam reached the bottom stair and turned to steal a glance over her shoulder at him. Perhaps it was a little much, but she couldn't help but giving him that come hither finger. Surely that would set the tone for the rest of the evening, and late, late into the night. THANKS ¢¾ WORDS: 1209 NOTES: WRAP IT UP TIME?! YAY FOR DRAMA TO ENSUE!
