With a content sigh, Nastasya swung her bag onto the library table, a loud thump signalled that it had slid of the other edge. At this she groaned, all but collapsing into the seat and leaning her head back before pushing herself back out of the chair and leaning down to grab her bag.

She placed the bag back on the table with less force this time and pulled out her diary, her favourite quill (which had been a gift from her dearest friend, Elena) and some ink. She loved being able to write down everything that happened, though she was much more detailed in the workings of other people’s minds rather than her own.

Elena, for example, had at least ten pages worth of notes written down on her. From some of the things she said to the way she acted, especially the difference between her personality when she was with Nastasya compared to when she wasn’t.

But another student at Hogwarts had caught Nastasya’s eye- Tom Riddle, of course. He acted like the perfect student, had grades and intelligence beyond what the rest of the school did but Nastasya knew something wasn’t quite right with him. In short, he puzzled her completely and she was far too curious to let that pass her.

Well, curiosity killed the cat.

Elena walked into the Library intending to study transfiguration so that she would get an O on the next test. As she searched around the room for an empty table she spotted Nastasya sitting at a four person table with her diary out. Elena smiled, her best friend had always had a habit of keeping a detailed description of everyone she knew, Elena had seen the made diary's she had strewed across her room at home when she had last visited, but Elena knew that this year a certain person that Elena wanted nothing to do with had caught her best friends attention and it worried her to no end.

Walking over to Nastasya's table Elena sighed and gave a secretive sad smile before putting a bright one on her face as she carefully placed her books on the table. "Hey Tasya, still trying to figure out Riddle?" Elena asked trying to keep the pain of her, she was worried about where this fascination for Riddle would take her best friend.

Elena slowly removed her parchment and quill from her bag, she never brought ink anymore, having bewitched her quill to carry it's own. She opened her books and started making notes as she waited for Nastasya's reply.

Upon hearing Elena’s voice next to her, Nastasya looked up from her diary and dipped her quill into the ink before scribbling something else down that came to mind, once she finished the sentence she set the quill down and answered her best friend.

“You can sneer at me now but I will figure him out” she replied calmly, picking her quill back up and writing down a few more points before sighing and looking back up at Elena. “I don’t understand him at all”

It sadden her that she wasn’t able to figure out what kind of person Riddle was, she’d been able to do it with every other student during her time at Hogwarts but for some reason he was different. It aggravated her to no ends. Maybe she was odd, having to know things about people that sometimes they didn’t even realise about themselves but that was how she was.

Sometimes it worried her that she took it too far, that maybe one of the many people she’d written down in her book would find out and react badly. She could not stop herself though and so she would just have to wait for that day to come before she could find out.

Elena looked away from her books and up at Nastasya keeping the suprise out of her face, ever since Nastasya had started trying to figure out Tom Riddle she had started taking some of Elena's general observations as snide remarks. It worried her, that her best friend might be changing right in front of her eyes and she couldn't do anything about it.

"I didn't mean it to be snide Tasya, I was just curious." Elena whispered, to scared and apprehensive to raise her voice higher then that. "I can move to a different table if you want, I never meant to offend you" she said, trying to apologies for something she wasn't sure she had done. Part of Elena's personality was that she didn't like to make people angry or dissapointed in her, she liked people to be happy. But lately she had been worrying about whether she was just making things worse for people, maybe it was better if she kept to her books which she knew wouldn't change on her.

Elena looked back down to Transfiguration and tried to ignore the feelings that were running though her, she wanted to make sure her best friend didn't get dragged into whatever Riddle was planning, but Nastasya was a Slytherin, a year above Elena, she had no hope of stopping anything from happening if she wasn't in the same house or classes.

Elena had trouble writing out notes, to busy worrying about her dearest and closest friend.

Nastasya stared back down at her diary solemnly, she didn’t mean to get so snarky with Elena sometimes her diary bought the worst out in her and she absolutely hated that feeling- there wasn’t really anything she could do though. Instead she continued to feel bad, she knew that sometimes Elena took thinks to heart just a little too much and this always bothered Nastasya- she had to be super careful with every word that came out of her mouth.

“Look, I am sorry Elena” Nastasya started, biting down on her bottom lip as a bunch of giggling Hufflepuff girls walked passed their table. “You know how I can get when it comes to this silly little diary of mine”

At this she reached over the table and placed her hand over Elena’s, squeezing it softly and waiting for her friends reply. She hoped that she wasn’t too angry this time- she was nothing without her best friend.

Elena continued to look down while Nastasya apologies to her, she knew that Nastasya hadn't meant to be mean when she said those words before, but it didn't stop the thoughts returning that had been going through her head for a while now. She wanted to believe that she was good hearted and caring but sometimes she just thought she was in the way of Nastasya's future.

She felt Nastasya's hand cover her's, Nastasya was taller then her and her hands were bigger as well, but they were warm and soft as they squeezed Elena's. Elena looked up at her best friend and smiled a reassuring smile trying her hardest to make it believable. She hadn't been able to spend much time with her best friend lately, Nastasya always seemed to be busy with her own stuff and Slytherin stuff. She missed her best friend.

"It's okay Tasya, really I should have known better then to interrupt you while you were writing in your diary." Elena gave a small sad laugh and continued to watch her best friend wondering if she was going to loose the most important person in her world.

“Don’t be silly Elena, you are my dearest friend” Nastasya slowly drew her hand away from Elena’s and sat in back on top of her diary which she closed up and shoved back into her bag, grabbing out her Potions work instead. A fellow Slytherin of hers- Parkinson, had taken to including her into discussions with him and his friends. Potions was one of their favourite things to discuss while she was around, though she knew they discussed other matters when they were alone, and so if she did not know everything she possibly could she felt out of place.

She felt dim, and that was something she absolutely hated feeling while in the presence of men- she could be just as intelligent as them even more so if she wanted to be. She thought Parkinson understood this and this was why he tried to keep her interested in the conversation- her cousin Druella however had commented that maybe Parkinson wanted to court her, this idea seemed silly to Nastasya.

She was a strong believer that men and women could have long conversations without the topic of marriage or ‘love’ being bought up and so Nastasya outright ignore anything that could be taken in the opposite direction- she had no interest in getting promised off to someone at her age.
