Flying Deadly

( Oh my gosh I'm sooo sorry! )

Shadowfang tilted hi head to the side as Neril walked away. Had he just been tricked? "Don't worry." He said quietly to his warriors as soon as Neril was out of earshot. "I'm not letting her go that easily, Skysong, Dimmedheart I want observation on her at all times. You guys can take turns or divide the work among some of the other warriors also. Make sure she doesn't know that you're there. Let me know if she does anything out of the ordinary. Besides, it's not like she's going to get a free meal every dragon here works for there keep, she's no different."


Infernoscale sighed bodding to himself. He should've known that Shadowfang knew what he was doin. "What do I do?" He asked his mentor Skysong.

"Yes Shadowfang, sorry for doubting you. I'll keep first watch on her." Dimmedheart bowed his head and luanched himself away, up into the air. He flew up into the clouds and vanished from sight. He looked down through a break in the clouds and watched Neril closely as she walked away and then, spread her beautiful wings. A cloud covered his view for a few wingbeats, and when he looked back, she was not there. Not even five minutes had passed and he had already lost sight of her. Her cursed himself and turned around to see Neril, her eyes alfame.


"Spying one me huh? Well looks like you could use some practice, and they call you a warrior. Hah!" She sniffed disdainfully and glided away a few lengths. "Well come on gaurd boy, aren't you going to follow me?"

Dimmedheart hovered there, jaw agap before he followed her. She lead him away from the ridge, down to the forest, where she swooped down and picked up a deer. "You're going to take that back to camp, Neril. You will not hunt for yourself."


"Oh, stop your worrying, dragon breath. I do have manners you know." She flew upward and speed past him on her way back to the camp. "See if you can beat me back to camp, oh great watcher."


He tore after her, back to camp, flying up high hidden in the clouds just behind her. He saw Neril look around for him, but she didn't and veered sharply off course to the far edge of the Dead Forest. There she landed and set down her kill in a small clearing. She covered it and headed into the forest. Dimmedheart dropped a few feet from the air and hovered watching her. She came back a few moments latr, with a mouthful of some trees. She dragged two more with her tail. She set them down and went back into the forest, Dimmedheart guessed for more trees. He cocked his head, wondering what she was doing.

A few hours later, she had a den just big enough fro herself. He watched as Neril stepped back and looked at it, then blew ice all over the outside. She examed it a little bit more, then unearthed the deer she had caught and un burried it. The female dragon grasped it in her claws and took to the skies. Dimmedheart flew higher to avoid being seen and flew just behind her back to camp.


Neril dropped her catch on top of the rest and waved her tail good-night as the sun was sinking low in the sky. She would wait for them all to go to bed before she left them in the middle of the night to go to her real den.

While Neril deposited her catch at the fresh-kill pile, Dimmedheart walked over to where he saw Shadowfang. "Shadowfang, Neril is doing something very weird. She flew off to the end of Dead Forest and made herself a den there. I wonder why she chooses to sleep out there. Should we bring her to sleep with us up here?" He noticed Neril wave her tail good-night and looked very confused. "I'm so confused. She has said good night and is heading to the warriors den, but yet she has made herself one in the forest. What is she up to?"

A steady rumble was growing in her throat, pointer teeth bared and green eyes narrowed to slits, anger rolling off of the female dragon in waves of heat. The crying only made her angier, and when the Shadowfang's gritted teeth expelled the words, she swelled, getting larger again, claws ripping up the ground under her.

"Fake little twit who doesn't mphph, garrel, ratsafratas..."

The curse words spilt out of her mouth, and it was only after the young woman realized that her apprentice was right there, looking at her.

"Repet any of that, ever, and I will have you doing wing rolls and flips until those large wing's of your fall off, understand me?"

However, Shadowfang's reasurance did nothing to calm her, and she only gave a short nod at the words, turning back to her Greenhorn.

"Well, we can start by hunting for the Pack. Let's go, but first peek in to see if you see Talonscale."

Dimmedheart looked expectantly at Shadowfang for his answer, glancing at Skysong.

(I'm sorry guys. I've had a LOT of homework to deal with.) Shadowfang listened carefully to Dimmedheart's report, nodding to himself at different intervals during the story. "Well Dimmedheart, since you were the one who brought her here, I'm laying her care in your hands. This may just be a theory, but she might be intending to run away while we're all asleep. Try to keep an eye on her okay?"

Infernoscale was surprised as his mentor cursed. She threatened to him with wing rolls and other horrible things but he knew he would probably use the words anyway. " What?!" But we just got back from training! Can't we take a rest Skysong?" Infernoscale exclaimed as his mentor told him to find his training partner so that they could go hunting for the Pack.

Dimmedheart nodded and walked away to the warriors den. He chuckled softly to himself at Infernoscale, he remebered what it had been like to be a greenhorn. It had been lots of fun, but it had been tough as well. Skysong was one of the toughest mentors a greenhon could have, but then again, in his own mind, Infernoscale could use a tough mentor.
