Faith sighed as she walked through the schools corridors. She held the cross around her neck and looked down for a moment. The Nuns, God, they were annoying. They were getting on her because she was late everyday. Well, it wasn't her fault that the only Catholic school was 4 miles away from her house.
She had even gotten up earlier today, did her hair nicely, put on some make up and then walked out from the bathroom, seeing her Father on the couch drunk and choking on his own spit.
She turned down another hallway. She guessed it was good that she checked up on him before she left or he would have been dead by the time she got home. She walked up to her locker, putting some of her dark black hair behind her ear as she placed a few books in the confinements of the metal locker. Soon there would be Mass, and she hated it.
When she was a child, she loved it. You never doubted God once, you always knew that he was always looking over you and you always thought he was going to protect you, always.. and never abandon you. She missed those days.
Plus, the people in Mass never really listened, having their own little conversations about something else that was rather stupid. She didn't even want to go. She could pray by herself.
She smiled, looking at the crucifix in her locker. She kissed her fingers and pressed them upon the wood. Her mother gave her that before she died. She closed the locker door, leaving it in darkness.
The bell rang, and it was now time for Mass. Pfft, she thought. She bit her lip, putting her bookbag over her shoulders and sneaked from the grounds of the school, hoping that no one had seen her. She bit her lip and walked towards the park that was close to the school.
That was the only place that was really a sanctuary; a place where she could come to relieve herself of daily stress and all that junk. She sat at one of the benches and closed her eyes, thinking of her day so far.
Things had been happening that... well, let's just say that weren't normal. Dreams, those God-aweful dreams that scared her shitless. There was just so much pain, so much suffering that it made her want to puke even thinking about it.
She looked down to the Holy Bible that was in her hands and sighed. She used to hate God.. Hate what he had done to her and her family, what he had done to her Mother, but she learned that "he had a plan." She couldn't deny his word, she thought. But this was when she was younger -- not now when she was allowed to doubt everything.
Was God real? Was he protecting her? Was there really a heaven and hell? Who knew?
-------------------EDIT------------ Sorry, the word is crucifix, not crucifixion. Crucifixion was a wide-spread ancient punishment in which the victim was either bound or nailed to a cross and left to die from suffication due to the immense pressure on the chest cavity, or of dehydration and starvation. The process usually took several days before the victim died.

Shannon sat in the swing at the local park, looking like a young kid from his looks even though he was 16. He was busy thinking about the recent test on his disease. They gave him less then a week and he still hadn't told anyone about it. The preachers had told him to go and take the day off and that he didn't have to come to class, but he still wanted to go.
Staring at the ground sadly, he sighed. His eyes grew watery as he thought about how unfair his life had been to him. No parents....no friends...no height....no girls...and soon...no life. Maybe God hated him, or he just had bad luck this lifetime. Wiping his eyes, he looked up to see a girl walking towards the park. "Oh great...maybe she's come to mess with me too." he said quietly.

Faith sighed heavily and placed the Bible in her book bag. She pushed some of her hair behind her ears and looked over to see one of the boys from her school and smiled softly, nervously. "....Hi," she broke the silence and looked away quickly. She looked up to the sky, the leaves of the trees swaying in the soft wind. She sighed and looked back over to him, seeing something.. in his eyes. "It such a beautiful day; it's a waste for you to be sad." She bit her lip, hoping she wasn't intruding.. or anything.

Quickly wiping his eyes, Shannon looked up at her. She ddin't seem to be one of the one's who usually came to pick on him. "No, I should be sorry. I'm probably interrupting you from your reading." Wiping his eyes again, he looked up at her and smiled nervously. Shannon began to nervously fiddle with the silver cross on his neck, it wasn't a good luck charm or anything...but the only thing he had when he was left at the orphanage and it comforted him a little. "I'm Shannon, who are you?"

She smiled and gathered her things, walking over towards him. "No, it's alright.. I wasn't reading, I was just.. well, looking." She smiled. "Hi, Shannon. I'm Faith. It's nice to meet you."
She looked into his eyes and could tell he was upset about something. "Are you alright?" She asked, a bit of worry in her voice. "I'm sorry if I sound nosey, I just.. don't like people being sad. Days like these should be the best in your life. Live like your going to die tomorrow, thats what I always say." She looked into his eyes.

Her last comment made Shannon chuckle as a few more tears came down his cheeks. "Yeah, but what would you do if you found out you weren't given very long to live?" he asked curiously, trying to pass it of as something theoretical and not too serious. "I'm just...tired of all this. The bullying, stealing,... life and even wondering if god is even real?" He looked up at her, "Maybe it's just me but...you start to lose hope after a while."
Standing up, he noticed he was a few inches shorter then her. Sighing, he thought that he must probably look like a kid which he'd been told so often.

She looked into his eyes and stood next to him. "Then I'd make those days as beautiful and fun as I possibly could, and I would die happy knowing I had friends and people that cared, and knowing that I had fun with my life and never regret any of it." She stepped forward and sighed. "So the rumors were true...?"

Shannon blinked at her unexpected question. "Rumors? What rumors?" he asked as he looked up at her blinking. No way...could she be talking about his illness? No one at school was suppose to know about that, so she couldn't possibly be talking about that. "Your not talking about rumors of me are you?" he asked, unsure of himself.

She looked to him and sighed. "Yeah.. Rumors about... you being sick?" She looked into his eyes and turned away for just a small moment. "Listen, I may not be in your situation, and you may be sad.. upset that.. something might happen. But, if you have only a short time to live, do you really want people to remember you as a mopey, sad boy?" She gave a small smile. "I'm sure there's some joy and laughter in there somewhere." She stepped forward. "You just gotta bring it out. If you only have a few days to live, than you don't want to spend the last moments crying -- spend it with your friends and family... That's how I would do it."
Her heart called out for this boy -- he knew he was going to die, or get sicker. "I'm sorry..." She said. Her heart broke; this boy seemed nice. Why couldn't the bad guys get sick? Why couldn't the bad guys die?

"Thanks for trying to comfort me," Shannon said quietly ooking down at his feet . "But I have no friends or family. Though I am glad to have met someone like you. Thanks for trying to cheer me up." He said as he looked back up at her , "Even though I don't have that much time left, I'm glad to at least have met someone like you." he said with a bright smile.

Faith looked to him. "I'll be your friend." She stepped forward with a smile. "Thanks.. That's a.. really big complement." She looked into his eyes. "Don't worry, though.. You're not alone.. God and I will be there for you." She smiled.
She turned just in time to see something horrible in the trees beside the park. Her eyes widened as she saw a gun being pointed towards them. "Oh My God!" She said as a shot ran through the skies. She ducked and fell to the ground, covering her ears.
She looked up to see the figure running off with unhuman speed. She looked up to Shannon as her eyes widened. "...WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT?!" She stood. "Shannon? Are you okay?"

Things seemed to go in slow motion as Shannon looked to the side of Faith as the gunshot rang out. Something hit his chest, his cross flew upwards from the impact and his breathing stopped. Gasping out for breath Shannon fell backwards, trying to reach out for something to grab. His eyes widened as he fell and hit the ground with a loud thud, his body feeling limp.
Looking up at Faith, he coughed and blood came out from his mouth. The blood from where he'd been hit soaked up in his shirt. Staring at Faith he smiled slightly, "T-T-Thankyou..for...trying..t-to h-elp me....Fai--" His last breath escaped him and his eyes hazed over dead. Everything was black and the last thing he could remember was the one tear coming down from his eye.

"SHANNON!" A scream echoed through the park along with wails of tears and sorrow. She kneeled beside him, pressing her hand to his chest trying to stop the blood from pouring out of him. "No!" She screamed, pulling him into her lap as tears ran down her cheeks. What had just happened? She looked into his glazing eyes, seeing his body fall limp, his complexion fall pale. He was dead.
Was it her fault? Who was that? What happened? Why did he have to die? She closed her eyes, unable to move, barely able to breath. She looked up to where the figure had shot from and then back down to him. "I'm sorry," she said.

As Faith crumbled to the ground beside her fallen friend, a gentle hand fell upon her shoulder. His eyes seemed to glow of their own accord, though against the backdrop of the clear blue sky, it couldn't be said for sure. Squeezing her shoulder gently, he knelt at Shannons feet, crossed first the boy and then himself, and lowered his head.
'"Requiem aeternam dona ei, Domine, et lux perpetua luceat ei. Requiescat in pace. Amen." he muttered in a deep, mournful voice.
Raising his eyes once again, he gazed at Faith for a long moment, emotionless. He seemed focused, yet not entirely on the girl... as if he was staring through her rather than at her. Finally, after a full minute, the silver-haired man smiled.

Faith jumped, feeling the hand on her shoulder but turned her head around slowly and she was immediately calm. There were only a few lingering tears as she looked upon Shannon. She backed away slowly, wrapping her arms around herself. She looked up to the mysterious man and blinked a tear down her cheek. "W-who are you?" She asked.
She looked back to Shannon and had to force herself to look away. She could hear sirens in the distance.

Sighing at the sound of the sirens, he rose and extended his hand to Faith. His blue eyes shimmered in the sunlight, and the smile on his face never faltered. She was the one he had been sent for.
"I am Michael. Child, we shall speak further soon. Now, you must do as I say. Repeat these words." he said quietly and made the sign of the cross on her forehead.
"Crux sancta sit mihi lux. Non draco sit mihi dux. Vade retro satana. Nunquam suade mihi vana. Sunt mala quae libas. Ipse venena bibas.

She looked up to him, to his hand and slowly took it. She didn't even know what she was doing now. She looked up to him and then back down to Shannon. She listened to what he said and as closely as she could, she repeated the words.
"Crus sancta sit mihi lux. Non drago sit mihi dux. Vade retre santana, nunquam suede mihi vana. Sunt mala qway libas. Ipse venena bibas." She closed her eyes.

Nodding, Michael offered her one last smile and brushed his fingertips against her cheek. Turning toward the approaching lights, he let out a long silent breath and slowly began to pace away toward the trees.
"I shall visit you again, child. Until then, embrace your faith and let the light guide you. May the Lord be with you." he said quietly and disappeared into the shadows of the trees.

Faith blinked, watching this mysterious man fade off into the distance. She turned back to the body of Shannon and looked down to the blood on her hands. She backed away as the ambulences and police rushed into the park. They immediately rushed towards her, hands on their gun seeing the blood on her hands.
She turned her head towards Shannon's body as the paramedics ran over to him and shook their heads, seeing he was already dead to a gunshot to the chest. "I'm sorry," she repeated and was led away to the police car by an officer.
There were so many questions; too many questions.. and all of them she couldn't answer. Would they try to blame it on her?
Hours had passed and she looked up to see her aunt rushing up. Her Father was probably off somwhere. She rushed towards her, wrapping her arm around her waist and instantly started to cry.
It was a few minutes until she calmed down again and told her what had happened -- minus that mysterious man. She closed her eyes and was taken back to the house by her Aunt. She was silent all the way home, remembering what that man had said.
Who was he?

The Blue Sky...The wetness on my cheek....Am I dead? Shannon opened his eyes, only to be greeted by a blurry world. Closing his eyes again, he thought about what had happened. The park, faith, gunshot, and then....what? That's when it hit him. He'd been shot, and he had died. "Then why am I here....?" Because...God was with you, said a mysterious voice. Remember? God granted you life and power...yet their was only so much he could do, with your demon half.
Shannon's eye's opened wide as he tried to recall that. Don't strain yourself trying to remember. God could only help you so much, with your demon half conjuring itself in you. "What...What demon?" he asked with a sore voice, as if he hadn't used it in ages. Sitting up, he groaned from the pain in his body. From the bullet that hit you, the voice said. It was full of demonic energy, your actually quite lucky that we made it to you in time.
Hopping to the floor, Shannon stood straight and noticed that things were smaller then they'd been before. "Huh?" he mumbled as he looked at his hand that seemed bigger...as for that, he felt...incredible. Looking around, he saw a mirror and moved toward it slowly. Seeing himself in it, he gasped as he saw the figure in it that wasn't him. Before him stood a well muscled man with black hair, yet the same blue eyes as Shannon. "Who the hell is that?" he asked himself. The voice replied with humor, That is you, and you....are Len.

Faith had been taken back home and laid in bed. Her father was drunk and her aunt.. well, she was laying beside her, still trying to comfort her. Her aunt was the only person in the world, other than her mother before she died, that she really could talk to.
She closed her eyes and laid her head on the pillow. "..Aunt Mary?" She asked quietly. "...Do you believe God watches over us all the time? ...Angels, and... spirits watching over us, as well?" Her voice was soft, and almost a whisper.
"I do," she said, stroking her hair. "Go to sleep, Faith.. You'll feel much better. I am sure they won't mind you being absent for the next few days.. Don't worry about anything. Alright?"
"Do you really have to leave?" She asked.
"Unfortunately, I do. You're cousins are probably tearing up the house. I'm sorry, baby." She said, bending down to kiss her forehead.
"It's okay, Aunt Mary.. Thank you for coming today.."
She nodded and walked out of her bedroom, leaving her alone in the shadows. She sighed heavily and looked over to the Bible that was now on her desk. She closed her eyes and curled up into a small ball, holding the cross tightly that was around her neck... so tightly she had quickly lost feeling in her fingers.
She tried to remember what he said... she really tried. But there was just so much a person's mind could take. Her mother, this boy.. Shannon. She swore it was because of her -- he wouldn't have died like that if it wasn't for her. The only thing she was really happy about was the fact that he had made a friend before he died > her.
She closed her eyes and tried to go to sleep the best she could, but doubted she'd be able to. Her dreams had gotten worse and worse lately, from just flashes of light, to images that seemed so real they were painful. She bit her lip and closed her eyes again, seeing the blood on her hands again.. she winced and curled into a ball, trying to force those thoughts from her mind.

"Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts. All the earth is filled with His Glory." The ethereal voice of the silver-haired man sounded in the quiet room.
Materializing as if from thin air, Michael appeared seated on Faiths bed beside her, his strong but soothing hand resting on her knee. His eyes, still glowing faintly, spoke volumes in silence of his pity for the girl.
"Child, even I who was created best in His image have never laid eyes upon our Father, for the light of his divinity would overwhelm me. Yet I know it is he whom I serve, without question." he said quietly, closing his eyes thoughtfully.
"You must never doubt his love. He cares for you best of all, for he sent the highest of his Earthly Choir to be your guardian." As he continued, he lowered his head obviously in deep consideration.

Engaro walked around at 2am feeling bored as ever. His long coat trailed behind him in the wind. He turned a corner into a small alleyway and stopped when two men jumped out from behind a trashcan swinging knives. "Ok buster cough up the dough." The man was clearly high as a kite. The veins on his arms almost burst when he swung his knife threateningly at him. The other man grinned stupidly and maliciously at Engaro. Engaro looked up from under his hat and stared at them. "Don't waste my time squirt..." He walked past them not even looking at them. The two stared at him for a second and the man who had spoken first shouted at him and jabbed his knife into Engaru's back. "You brought this on yourself buster!" He jerked the knife from his back and took a few steps backward expecting his victim to fall over any second now. Engaro's shoulder twitched as he turned around slowly. "I warned you squirt..." He took a step towards the men and grabbed them both by the throat. Lifting his struggling victims a foot off the floor he glared at them with bright red fiery eyes. The guy who hadn't spoken until now cried out as a clawed finger ran across his cheek leaving a thin trail of blood. "It kind of saddens me that I can't find any better recruits to send to my master..." When he exited the other end of the alleyway his eyes had returned to their normal green and the glint of a sword vanished under his coat. He entered a club across the street and spent the rest of the evening drinking and seducing women.
The next morning he was woken by a series of police sirens outside the building. He lifted the women off his lap and set them on the bed without waking them. He smiled when he saw several several panicked looking people. Channel five news was already on location aswell as the coroner, some cops and a few disaster tourists. Taking his coat from the bed he walked downstairs and grimaced when he saw his human form in the many mirrors in the hall. He exited the building right after he'd donned his coat. "What happened here officer?" He asked innocently. The cop, who payed little attention to the 6 foot darkhaired man answered. "A killing... It's horrible." A newreporter shoved Engaro out of the way and thrust her microphone at the cop. "Can you give us some details sir?" The cop sighed and looked at the bloody mess behind him. "I'm not allowed to say much but let me put it this way... The only reason we know two people were killed is because we found three hands nailed to the wall with two knives..." Engaro stood on tiptoe and admired his handy work. Hmmm... It looks more artistic than I thought in daylight... He surpressed a laugh and walked away to get some cofee and clear out his hangover.

Shannon...no...Len walked through the halls of the building, which he suspected to be that of the Police Department. Looking around cautiously for anyone who would question a stranger in the police department this early in the morning, he looked for the evidence room. Finding it, he quickly went inside and looked for some clothing. Luckily for him, he found some clothes and quickly put them on.
The white t-shirt he had was a little tight, but it was all he could manage in this new body. He'd also found some jeans and boots, and that was all he could manage. You know...you know. You don't really need to steal those clothes. You have your own. "Shut-up." He whispered as he looked around for anything else he could probably put on. That voice in his head was getting annoying and for some reason it was also very obnoxious and loved bugging him.
Well alright then, I'll be quiet. But trust me...your gonna need my help sooner then you think. The voice said darkly as it suddenly dissapeared. Sighing, he found a belt, a black jacket, and a handgun. For some reason, he wanted to reach out for the gun, but halted the urge. "So...why am I still alive?" he asked the voice in his head. Oh...crawling back already huh? Hahhaha well alright, since I am stuck with you. I'll tell you...God sent you here. He understood that it wasn't your time and all, but it would have been easier to allow you to heaven immedieatly. But there was one problem, "What?" Len asked the voice.
The demon inside you. So god decided to give you some of his own powers that promptly nullify you from becoming a full demon. But neither are you a full angel. It's like on a test you can't be A or B...so your OTHER. The voice said, emphasizing other. But their is also another special reason...it seems you also knew someone whom we need you to protect. You know her as Faith. Len gasped at the name, "Faith?"
Bingo! But you see it was kinda risky sending you here. Because if God didn't get a hold of you then the Devil would have. You have no one to answer to, and all the choices are up to you. "Wait! What about you? Who are you?" Len asked the voice inside of him. Oh lil o' me? Why...I'm your consiounce so to speak. Well to be perfectly clear...I'm your inner power. We'll talk about that later, first we have to get you out of here. The voice said suddenly. Len nodded and walked toward the door, "Let's go and see what else I can find out." he said quietly as he opened the door and began to find his way out of the building.

Faith looked up to him, still with tears in her eyes. She pushed herself up and looked over him. "Who are you?" She bit her lip, wiping the tears away. "A-are you an Angel? Guardian angel?" She looked into his glowing eyes but looked away quickly.
"I can't help but feeling as if he is punishing me; first my mother, and... I just -- I can't stop thinking that his death was my fault.." She looked down. "What was that thing? That... person that shot him.. Was he shooting for me? Or did he hit his target? I don't know anything anymore.. So many strange things are happening.. Dreams and nightmares, just.." She looked up back to his eyes. "If you are who I think you are, explain this to me.. Please?"

Engaru sipped his coffee and had fun shooting toothpick from his table at the pigeons leaving them stranded wherever they would land with the small piece of wood shot through either a wing or a leg. He chuckled when the last misfortunate bird got run over by a passing SUV. "Now that's overkill..." Getting a little bored after a while he stretched his arms and looked around the ouside terras. He whistled at a woman on the sidewalk go gave him a grin when she walked past and received a wink from him. Oh yeah... Life's a bitch allright..." He yawned and checked his pockets for change. He found several hundred dollar bills and remembered the addict trying to sell him some dope. Shrugging he sorted out some dimes and quarters. He called out for the waiter and looked up at the short man from his seat. "Can I help you sir?" Engaro sat up in his chair and nodded. "Yeah get me a large coffee pronto with some vanilla ice cream." The waiter shook his head and apologised. "Sorry sir we don't have ice cream here..." Engaro sat up even straighter and looked him in the eye. "Then get some..." The waiter walked away with his nose stuck high in the air. He watched the waiter go back to the manager and explain the situation. He picked up the entire conversation with his extreme hearing and smiled playing with a penny on the table. "Benny some prat over there wants ice cream and he's being rude..." The manager sighed at the waiter. "You're not going to spit in his coffee are you?..." The waiter nodded and looked at Engaro who was pretending to be interested in the menu. "Damn right I'm going to spit in the bastards coffee... I'm a professional you know..." The waiter leaned back on the counter waiting for the coffee.
Engaro put down the menu and the penny. "Bastard? But I'm pure evil... not some halfbreed..." He whispered to himself. He flicked the penny with his index finger so hard it whizzed through the waiter's skin and stuck inbetween his femur and lower legbones. Draining his cup he left some change on the table and walked away as the man was screaming in agony.

Len paused as he heard a scream then shook his head. "Now I'm begining to hear things..." he said to himself. Hey...I take that as an insult. Scowling at the voice, Len passed by a group of women who looked at him weirdly. That seemed to happen alot now, he wasn't sure why but alot of women had started looking at him.
Oh my god! Are you daft you crazy punk? Those women are HOT for you boy!! You should go in and make a move! "Please be quiet." Len said to the voice as he continued walking through the streets. He had to find where Faith was, and then decide what to do next. Rubbing the cross at his neck, he looked around at the city in which he'd grown in, yet looked so much different now.
Do you sense that kid? The voice asked quietly in his head. "What?" Len asked. There's a demon in this town...and I'm pretty sure it's a high class one at that. Hahahahah we are in luck, I thought this was going to be a boring job. But now...things are begining to look intresting for us kid.

Offering Faith a gentle smile, Michael rose to his full height and stood at her side. He gazed upward, toward the sky, for a long moment before returning his eyes to Faiths. His eyes now shimmered brilliantly against the backdrop of his shadowed face, and a gentle smile formed on his lips.
"You know me well, child. I am Saint Michael the Archangel." he said quietly.
The light in his eyes instensified as his wings, four in total, unfurled behind him. In place of his black suit, a full array of brilliant white armor appeared in a glimmer of light. Luminous as the midday sun, Michael stood before Faith for a short moment in his true form before dropping to his right knee and bowing prostrate before the girl.
Raising his eyes to her, he lay his sword on the floor next to her bed.
"The Father is not punishing you, child. The death of that boy was not the fault of the Lord, but of the Adversary. The serpent knows of your destiny, and seeks to undo it before it can come to pass. Len, or Shannon as you know him, is also written highly in the words of the Thrones. This is all that I can tell you."

Engaro stopped dead in the middle of a crossroad and looked around as if expecting to be jumped at any second. He broke into a run right when a bus slammed on its brakes to avoid hitting him. Stopping at a corner he sniffed the air for a second and grimaced. "I knew it... About time the man sent a challenge... It's getting a tad boring feeding on nuns..." He broke into another run and looked around when he ran taking in as many faces as he could. "Oooh brandnew too. Hasn't masked his power yet... Nice..." He grinned at the last word and changed into his catform while running through and alley. He leapt into the air and flew straight up between the buildings where he whent unnoticed except for a homeless person who simply rubbed his eyes and took a good look at the bottle of jack daniels he was holding. Landing on the roof he changed back into his human form and looked around for whomever it was emitting the scent of power.

Yes indeed...the bloke is heading towards us right now. Maybe I should of taught you how to mask your powers....Oh well. The voice said without much concern. Now it's time for you to use the powers we gave ya, so come on. Grab that silver cross of yours and press it against the back of your right hand. Looking at his cross weirdly, he did as the voice instructed and then he felt...something come over him. His clothes turned into a black uniform jacket with silver lining and images of a cross on the shoulders. One giant cross with two swords crossed over it were on his back. His black pants had silver lining on them too with knee gaurds and boots that had steel tips. He was also wearing dress white dress shirt that wasn't tucked in and was covered by most of the uniform jacket that hung to his knees.
Raising his hands, Len saw that the back of his right hand at a cross on it that seemed to glow red. Hmm...a deffect of the demon inside you. Your clothes are suppose to be white ya know? But oh well...seems your fighting for god in black. The voice said...obviously enjoying himself. Oh and you have a Devil's Blade...they don't give those to just anyone you know. Referring to the blade on his back. Man...your one lucky dead man you know that? Not many get so many powers when they're brought back to life. You even have handguns...You may just scare the demon off with that aura your emitting. I mean come on! There's a serious good and evil aura around you.
Len sighed and looked up as something tingled in his right arm, pushing his sleeves up, he saw a small tattoo on his forearm. HAHA!! Your being branded by both God and the Devil as their own personal pet. It just doesn't get any better then this.
