Weapon Mods

Mods usually do a few things for your weapons. They increase ammo capacity, add scopes, improve weapon condition, increase damage, add silencers, decrease weight, etc. Weapon mods can be bought or traded, but they are not always in demand, and their numbers are quite limited. Sometimes stores will have special sales where you can buy mods, but quantity is small.

Ammo Guide

So what is ammo exactly? Short for ammunition, it is basically the stuff you put into weapons that makes them deadly. By definition, ammo is "the material fired, scattered, dropped, or detonated from any weapon, as bombs or rockets, and especially shot, shrapnel, bullets, or shells fired by guns".

So basically, different kinds of weapons have different ammo types. Not all guns shoot the same kind of bullets. Here's a quick guide to help you understand.

Guns that fire .308 rounds
  • Hunting Rifle
  • Sniper Rifle

Guns that fire .357 magnum rounds
  • .357 Magnum Revolver

Guns that fire .44 magnum rounds
  • .44 Magnum Revolver

Guns that fire 5mm rounds
  • Minigun

Guns that fire 5.56mm rounds
  • Varmint Rifle
  • Chinese Assault Rifle

Guns that fire 9mm rounds
  • 9mm Pistol
  • 9mm SMG

Guns that fire 10mm rounds
  • 10mm pistol
  • 10mm SMG

Guns that fire 12 gauge shotgun shell
  • Hunting Shotgun
  • Sawed-off Shotgun

Guns that fire 20 gauge shotgun shell
  • Caravan Shotgun

Energy weapons that use electron charge pack
  • Laser RCW

Energy weapons that use flamer fuel
  • Flamer
  • Incinerator

Energy weapons that use microfusion cell
  • Laser Rifle
  • Plasma Rifle
  • Gauss Rifle

Energy weapons that use microfusion breeder
  • Recharger Pistol

Energy weapons that use energy cell
  • Laser pistol
  • Plasma pistol
  • Plasma defender

Explosives that fire 40mm grenades
  • Grenade launcher
  • Grenade rifle

Explosives that fire missiles
  • Missile Launcher

Explosives that fire mini nukes
  • Fat Man

Ammo is always required for all of these weapons, otherwise you just have a useless gun. Many stores in cities will have ammo readily supplied. Prices vary from store to store (with a high enough Barter skill, the prices can be lowered). However, not all stores will sell ammo for some of the more rare weapons, so best of luck obtaining that. Sometimes special events will yield what you need, so keep your eyes open for announcements.

Unarmed

Unarmed weapons all fall into a single category; weapons that require only your bare fists to use. Nothing is more manly than beating someone up with just your hands. But sometimes even your hands need help being beastly, so these helpful little guys will make the beatings easier. Unarmed weapons only ammunition IS YOU. GO OUT AND KICK SOMEONE'S ASS, BE A MAN.

Energy Weapons

Types of Energy Weapons:
  • Pistols
  • Rifles
  • Heavy Weapons
Laser vs Plasma

-When it comes to energy weapons, we have two distinctive types, laser and plasma. What's the difference between them other than the name? To make it simple, lasers are fast but less accurate. Plasma is slower but more accurate. There are some mods that allow you fix these problems, so don't worry too much about it. All in all, you can still hurt someone with any of these types of E. Weapons.

Pistols

-Quick draw, turn that ugly mug into a sizzling pile of ashes or a bubbling pile of goo!

However, you'll need a high, high gun skill, massive amounts of strength, and be very, very lucky. Heavy Weapons are more commonly found on Super Mutants, should they be lucky themselves to have one.
