Takes place early 2013, year + some months after Homecoming episode in Season 3

Faded Echoes is an AU Vampire Diaries site, kicking off at the Season 3 winter break. Klaus has just killed Mikael, thanks to Stefan Salvatore. Releasing Stefan from his binds to him, Klaus gives Stefan his freedom back only for Stefan to retaliate against the original hybrid. Stefan stole the coffins of his family and hid them away. It wasn’t too long before the Original Petrova Doppelganger caught up to him, easily deceiving Stefan to make him believe she was one of her other doppelgangers. The Original Petrova & Stefan agreed the only way they could take down the hybrid was to bring his family back, positive they would side with them because of Klaus imprisoning them. Setting free the other siblings of the original vampire family, the Original Petrova tries to make an alliance with them and convince them that Klaus is their common enemy and enemy of thy enemy makes friends.

A twist that wasn’t expected was the Original Werewolf family. In a rage, Mikael killed the father of the original werewolves for having an affair with his wife to spawn the hybrid, Klaus. He wasn’t capable however, to destroy the entire lineage and therefore, they escaped to survive and hid in the shadows from the fury of Mikael until it was safe to come out. With Mikael dead and gone, they are resurfacing to take a stand, whether with or against Klaus is yet to be determined by the individuals.

Elena Gilbert is struggling with her growing emotions for the other Salvatore brother while trying to bring Stefan back from the dark depth’s of his Ripper mind. She’s a required tool to making hybrids and Klaus will make sure that no harm comes to her, he makes no promises about her loved ones. The Original Hybrid will be furious to know that his family has been released into the world, but he may be able to make an alliance with the werewolf family, since they are blood related. In all of this drama and resistance, which side will our heroes and villains chose? Events are surfacing in Mystic Falls that may or may not be the demise of the town and it’s inhabitants.

The Hunters & the Hunted

The war between the living supernatural and Gabriel started during the Salem Witch Trials. He hunted the witches and warlocks, using their life essences for his evil biding, which oddly enough, included taking over the entire free world. He purged the witches, reducing their number drastically. After his stint with the witches, Gabe moved to the werewolves. The werewolves were a type of supernatural that were only beginning to be noticed, but their number were large. Gabe felt their strength, saw their power, and began to attack them as he did the witches. He grew bored with the game they played with him, and several years after the trials, he discovered a new race: Shifters. Their life essences were stronger than the witches, and contained a more balanced type of power compared to the sporadic and unpredictable essence of a witch.
The Hunters were founded shortly after this discovery, and Gabe gained the alliance of one of the most influential shifters known. Gabe has been hunting the countryside with an army of hunter, trying to find shifters who, when together, would create the most powerful essence he's ever conquered. Today, Gabe has located the town of Fell’s Church/Mystic Falls. He feels the essences of the shifters living there…and he knows this is where his final battle will be.

Town Council United

The town is crawling with things that go bump in the night, now is the time to bump back. The town council, mostly consisting of Founding Family members, have decided that it’s time to take a stand in the town. The population of humans in Mystic Falls seems to be dropping while the supernatural count keeps rising. The vampires will not walk all over them. Those who are willing to fight will be armed, those who are willing to learn will be taught. Vampires that choose to kill will be punished by death, if the vampire can be linked to the death. If things get too out of hand, vervain will be dropped into the town’s main water supply. Hunters are valued and a necessity in taking a stand. This is not war, the council will not go out picking fights with vampires and condemning them based solely on the fact of what they are. This is self preservation. Careful what you snack on, vampires, it might just snap back.

The Original Hunter's

During Mikael's time roaming the world in search of his Original children, he came across many people and things. During his hunt for his children, he began to notice trails becoming colder and colder until eventually, the only trail that stayed warmed was Niklaus's and Elijah's trail. It would appear to Mikael that Niklaus had daggered his other siblings, perhaps in an attempt so Mikael could not kill them permanently. As Mikael traveled the world, he had come across a White Oak Tree. Before the tree could be burned, he factioned from the tree 7 White Oak stakes, one for each remaining Original Vampire, including himself.

Over the years, Mikael trained many humans, werewolves and witches to hunt vampires and trained five to take down each of his children, saving Klaus for himself. Over the centuries, he stuck with the same families: Chamberlain, McDonough, Watson, and Irons. Mikael began this in the mid 1800's, so his Original Vampire children wouldn't know of the hunters. Mikael had pictures made of his children so the families would know and recognize them, given their names and the traits of which he remembered of them. Getting word of a potential doppelganger in Mystic Falls, he found Elena during the 90's as he was training five of his handpicked hunter's from the families. He left to dispose of the doppelganger to throw a wrench in Niklaus's plans, but he was dessicated by Abby Bennett. Mikael was entombed for several years and when he was awoken, he went for his White Oak stake. Mikael did not succeed in killing Niklaus and met his demise himself. However, word has traveled of Mikael's death and the Originals gathering in Mystic Falls. The word traveled to South Carolina to the Original Hunter's that Mikael had trained.

When Mikael became dissecated, the Original Hunter's assumed the worst had become of him and he had died. One of the Warlocks in the group put an anti-aging spell on all of current five once it was assumed that Mikael was dead. They'd need all the advantage they could get when facing down the Original Vampires. Their whole lives they had been trained to take down a specific Original, each one trained for a specific Original Vampire. Their families have urged them to go to Mystic Falls, one by one, and complete their family's destiny by ridding the world of the Original Vampires.
