“I can’t believe I kissed Sev…I mean I meant to do it but I didn’t think about what I’d do once I’d done it…”
she says out loud to the empty astronomy tower. It was way past curfew by now but she had to get away for a smoke and to clear her head so she ended up at the astronomy tower. She leaned against the stone wall near one of the many windows and gazed up at the dark night sky. The sky was clear and filled with millions of stars; it looked even more massive than usual. Signing she brought her cigarette up to her lips and inhaled the licorice tobacco, holding in the smoke for a moment before blowing it out and watching it swirl in the wind. It had been a few days since the ball and Evera had done everything in her power to avoid confronting Sev. She didn’t know how he felt about the kiss because she hadn’t really stuck around afterwards to talk about it much. He’d been pretty shocked after the kiss and she hadn’t wanted to make things anymore awkward for either one of them.
She played back that night in her head, remembering how nervous Sev was while attempting to dance with her, his longing and sad look as he watched Lily from across the room dancing with Potter. Evera rolled her eyes at this and scuffed. She hated the fact that Lily was intentionally hurting Sev, no matter what he once said to her. She was also pretty sure Potter hadn’t let up on Sev since the ball like he told her he would. Evera wondered whether Lily had seen her kiss with Sev, ‘What would she think of it? Would it bother her…after all she never did answer me when I told her I liked him and what she thought about it…’ she thought about their heated conversation two days ago, about her the way she’d acted when she’d told her. Lily had to know she couldn’t have them both. With a huff she took another long drag and let it out, her eyes closing as she tried to calm herself. She shouldn’t care so much, Lily could do whatever she wants, she just wished it wouldn’t in turn hurt Sev; after all he is one of her closest friends.
“Stop thinking about all that Eve…you’ve got bigger problems.” she tells herself shaking off any remainder thoughts of Sev and Lily. Her parents were planning to visit her during the next trip to hogsmead in a few weeks. They wanted to talk to her about the plans for her engagement. She still didn’t know which unfortunate slytherin guy was to be paired off with her but she was not all that anxious to find out. Until then she’d like to stay in blissful ignorance. If that weren’t enough she had a feeling her brother and a few other slytherin friends were starting to suspect her true feelings towards everything. These interrogations and search for the one who killed that boy is putting everyone on edge and people are starting to talk amongst her housemates. I mean it’s pretty easy to try and narrow down the masses to find who could have done it, and she was sure it was a slytherin, their house reputation aside. She always played the nonchalant one, who didn’t voice her opinions on the matter often as to not give anything away, but lately people were seeing past that and questioning her more often.
Even Evera could see that right now is a bad time to be on the opposite side of her fellow slytherins. She slide down the stone wall until she was sitting beneath the window with one knee bent to her chest and the other one stretched out. She twirled her cig between her fingers before taking another drag and blowing out the smoke as slowly as possible the tendrils swirling up like a snake until the wind from the open window would take it out. She couldn’t think of anything more calming then smoking a cig, best way to relieve stress in her opinion.
