I hope this is an okay opener post! <333
There was something about nice days that just made Amara crave sushi. Maybe it was because they were nice and cool on warm days. Maybe it was because Venice was surrounded by water and so it always smelled like the water, ocean and fish. It just made her want the taste of cool clean fish and that small saltiness of soy sauce. That was why it was decided that she needed to go and get the sushi that she wanted to. She even knew the place she wanted to go. It was a little hidden away place called Michi Sushi that was in one of the most populated places in Venice the Piazze San Marco but the unassuming way it looked outside kept most tourists from going inside. It was usually always filled with natives and college students sitting inside enjoying some of the best sushi in town.

The problem was you could never go out and just get sushi alone could you? No that was why she had called Serena. The girl could be a bit of a clumsy ditz from time to time but she was still fun. There was just something so bubbly and excitable about her that Amara could never seem to tell her no. She felt like the girl's big sister like she always had to protect her. That was why days like this were so nice. They were able to just hang out with each other and just talk and catch up. She hadn't seen the younger girl in a while so there probably were a few fun things to talk about. With a quick call a lunch date was all set. Now it was just time to get ready.

Dressing decently for the occasion she threw up on a black and white stripped t-shirt, a pair of skin tight black skinny jeans and a black hat. She left her blonde hair down around her face, her make up still slightly smudged from the night before. It might have looked sloppy on anyone else but it worked for her. She threw on a couple of necklaces and figured she was good to go. She slipped on a pair of heavy boots and out the door she went.

The walk from her apartment was short especially as she took the bus to the Piazza. It wasn't long before she was moving through the narrow streets and finally reached the sushi places. Walking inside she scanned the room. She must have been first because Serena wasn't there. She asked for a seat for two and was directed to a nice little booth and given two menus. Now it was just time to wait.

baby you're a firework

Serena found herself worried lately. After being attacked by those men, she really wasn't in the mood to do anything. But she didn't want to worry others. That was the main reason she decided to go ahead and meet up with Amara anyway. Despite her main wish to just stay home and avoid the world, she couldn't do that with a clear conscience. And anyway...if she stayed home she'd end up thinking about Darien too much, which was just as bad of an idea. After all the time she had spent disliking him, it felt weird to see him as a decent guy. A really good guy actually. It was just hard for her to handle. So when Amara called her up about going to get some sushi, Serena accepted. Which meant she had to make herself presentable. After a few days of staying home and just plain hiding, well...that would take some time. She took a shower, then blow dried her hair, and then applied some make up. She had to conceal a bit, seeing as she hadn't been sleeping too well, but that was okay. Serena needed a good distraction. The blond got dressed and made sure she was looking just the way she wanted before she left home. Everything had to look as if it was any other day, and that Serena was still the same bubbly girl as ever. She had to practice smiling a bit and all that, but then she was okay. Serena was pretty sure she'd be convincing. All she had to do was smile and act silly and continue to be her clumsy self. It would all be okay. Serena just wanted to have a good time anyway. There was no point talking about the bad things that happened.

Serena was all for having a good time, and she had always had fun with Amara. She was like a sister for her, which was reassuring. Even if Serena had no intention of spilling what happened, she was glad that she had the option with Amara. That alone comforted her. Once she left her parents' home, she walked towards the sushi place, only pausing for a moment to help a kid up that had fallen. But then she was off to meet Amara, eager to spend some time with her. It had been a while since she had last had the chance to talk to her. Things had been so hectic, what with the parties her parents wanted her to attend and the trouble that had happened. Serena suddenly glanced at the time on her phone and gasped. She was running late! And so she took off running, disregarding the fact that her shoes definitely weren't suited for that and that she would undoubtedly fall. Serena didn't want to keep Amara waiting. That would be yet another thing she'd be annoyed about later. Sure, Serena had a talent for being late to things, and she figured Amara probably expected it, but she still attempted to make it there promptly. At least she tried. If she didn't, Serena ended up ridiculously late. That was simply because she got distracted very easily. Like she planned to go to Rae's temple and stuff but she had frequently been distracted by the arcade she found. That sort of thing.

After a lot of running and four falls, Serena finally made it to the sushi place Amara told her about over the phone. She paused at the entrance to take a deep breath or two before actually entering. She didn't want to look out of breath when she met Amara. Serena smiled brightly as she walked into the sushi place, excited to see her dear friend. Serena asked a waitress if Amara was already there. And so she was quickly guided over to her friend. Serena sat down across from Amara without hesitation. "Sorry I'm a little late. I lost track of the time a bit." Serena apologized as she grabbed one of the menus to see what she might choose. Serena had a few loves...but one of her biggest was food. Maybe it wasn't the wisest thing to meet at a sushi place, but now it was too late to turn back. Serena would undoubtedly stuff her face.

It was fine :]]]
Serena's lateness was nothing new. If anything Amara was very used to it. She almost kind of expected it. So instead of looking around anxiously Amara simply pulled out her cell phone and glanced at it. At first she was a little nervous but she ignored it and started to text Michelle. She wasn't sure what they were going to talk about but she'd had a great time with the other woman and she was very excited for their date again on Saturday. The woman had been a fun time and Amara hoped her text messages weren't unwelcome. After a few text messages back and forth she thought she might have heard a very familiar voice from the front of the restaurant. Sending a quick goodbye text to Michelle she glanced up as she saw Serena's little blonde head showing up with a smile on her face.

"It's alright. You're Serena I almost expect you to be late all the time," Amara said with a soft chuckle. It was true though. She always expected the girl to be late. She just always managed to show up at least a few minutes late. Sitting back she looked at the other girl giving her a big smile. "You seem like you've had a rough few days. I think I should pay for lunch." This wasn't an uncommon occurrence. The thing was Amara had enough money in the trust that she could never spend it in a life time so she certainly didn't mind spending it on her friends. It was much better than just leave it after all you couldn't spend it in the grave. Waving the waitress over she ordered herself a glass of white wine and waited to see if Serena wanted anything to drink before glancing back at the menu with a look of concentration on her face. What would she want to eat? Sushi of course but would she want anything else? God it was a hard choice.

Tardiness was somewhat Serena's thing. She'd been very well versed in it, and it really didn't matter how badly she wanted to be on time to places, she rarely ever was. Serena was just too good at being late. Not that it surprised anyone anymore. People were used to it. Everyone who knew Serena knew she was usually late. It was just part of who she was. Serena couldn't help it. She always lost track of the time, either at the arcade, or at home getting ready. But most of the time it was because she slept in beyond the time most people did. Serena loved sleep. She thoroughly enjoyed sleeping in. Her mother usually didn't let her, but she liked to try. Still, even so she always ran to try to be on time to places. It never really worked, but she made the attempt anyway. Because people like Amara mattered to her, and though she usually failed, she didn't like to keep them waiting. It was always a difficult thing for Serena. On the one hand she very much did enjoy her sleep, but on the other, she never ended up on time. She couldn't really balance that well. But who cared? At least she got to spend time with Amara! That was the most important part. Especially after the craziness that had happened recently. Serena needed a normal lunch with her dear friend. That would get her spirits up.

And it would also help her forget about what she thought about Darien. That was a complicated subject in itself, and Serena preferred not to think about it. That would just be the safest. If she thought too much about him then she'd only regret it. Sure, he saved her life, but she didn't know what to think. For all that he was her rescuer and stuff, he had been the person she'd been pretty much hating for a while. But now she couldn't think that way, and it was weird. Mind blowing even. While Serena knew that Darien couldn't be a horrible guy, she knew that even when she absolutely disliked him, she had never bothered to try to understand him. She had never wondered what kind of guy he really was. And now that she did it was driving her crazy. Which was why Serena wanted to just have lunch, relax, and talk to Amara about much more simple things. Things that didn't completely baffle her. Guys were confusing she decided. There was nothing else to think about. No, Serena refused to think any more about Darien, otherwise she'd absolutely go crazy and want to go find him. Which would be a terrible idea. After all, what was there left to say to him?

Serena couldn't help but make a face a little at what Amara said, though she knew perfectly well that it was true. There was no doubt about it, Serena had a talent for being late. So even though she made a face, there really was no point arguing against it. She was very good at being late, so the fact that Amara was used to it was no surprise. "That's not nice. I tried really hard this time. But fine, I do end up being late a lot, it's true." Serena said with a sigh, making it obvious that she did try to be on time. It just never seemed to work out for her. But try she would. Serena was determined to improve. Even if that didn't always show. The blond couldn't help but look surprised when Amara said she'd pay for lunch. And then she shook her head furiously. "Don't be silly. I'm perfectly capable of paying. And my days have been fine. There's really nothing to worry about. I can pay for myself. Thanks though." Serena replied stubbornly, as always determined to do things as she saw it. she didn't think it was right for Amara to pay for lunch. Sushi wasn't exactly the cheapest meal one could get. And anyway, Serena was perfectly capable of paying for herself, as she told her friend.

I'm sorry they're all so short : [
Good thing for Serena, Amara was very laid back about most things and it helped that she had gotten to text Michelle the whole time she was waiting for Serena. She was really enjoying her time with her blind date mystery girl. It was so much fun just to talk to the woman even if it was just through the phone. It was highly doubtful that Serena would stop hearing about Darien any time soon. Right now she was just singing his praises. Why? Because he had set her up with Michelle. The girl who Amara was pretty sure she was going to end marrying. She was just everything she had ever wanted in a woman. She was beautiful, sophisticated and did she mention sexy as hell? For the moment though anyway she just grinned at her friend as Serena showed up with a smile on her face.

Unable to help herself she let out a little chuckle when Serena said she really tried this time. Nodding her head she held up her hands and just gave her another wide grin. "I know I know. You know I'm just teasing you," she said in a little joking voice not wanting her friend to be completely upset. That is why she'd offered to pay for dinner after all. She had just wanted to take a little bit of a tease out of her. She reached out to pat the other girl's hand before she settled back down. Her friend was being stubborn and they both knew it. But Amara simply raised up her hand as if in defeat. "Okay okay. I just wanted to make up for teasing you," she said lightly before she started glancing over the menu. She thought about getting one of the big sampler plates. That would be good and she'd get a lot of flavors.

With that settled, she sat back in her chair and looked back at Serena. "So how have you been, Kitten? Doing anything good lately?" She wanted to see what her friend had been up to after all. That was the point of their sushi get together wasn't it?

Serena was glad that she could spend time with Amara. Anything was better than worrying about the future. Something she had spent too much time on lately. Instead she would just be glad that she could see Amara and hang out, and pretend nothing had happened. That was the smartest thing she could do. There were scary people out in the world, but she wanted to act like they didn't exist. After the nightmare that was the attack at Darien's parent's party, she wanted to just block it all from her mind. Darien had saved her. And now she couldn't forget about him. That jerk. He didn't deserve to be on her mind. Or at least, that's what she was trying to tell herself, even though she was fully aware of the fact that he had been great and he had protected her even though he really hadn't needed to. Especially since it had seemed perfectly clear that he despised her. At least that's what she thought. The blond sighed and ran a hand through her hair as she tried to forget about how it had felt with the knife against her neck...no she wasn't going there. She wanted to just have a good time with Amara.

Serena nodded and sighed. She knew her friend was just teasing her. But the teasing made her think of Darien and her new nickname Meatball Head. She wasn't sure why....everything had her thinking about that jerk. It almost made her want to scream, but she knew that would just get her a bunch of really weird looks. "Yeah I know. But you know me. I've never been good with the whole teasing thing." Serena pointed out, a fact that all of her friends knew. But that always seemed to encourage them to tease her just that much more. She wasn't sure what it was about teasing her, but they all seemed to have fun with it. Even Darien. Though Serena didn't count him as a friend. She counted him as an unknown jerk. The blond grinned and nodded. "It's fine. Don't worry. I can take the teasing. I'll pay myself, it's fine." Serena didn't want Amara to have to pay for both of them. That would make her feel guilty. She wouldn't feel bad if this were a date type of thing, but that wasn't what it was. If Amara was her date or something, maybe she'd want that, but even then Serena felt she would probably argue about paying. Serena thought about Amara's question and shrugged. "I'm okay. I haven't done much. I want to that jerk Darien's party. My parents made me. That's about it really." Serena explained, telling the basics of what she'd done, even if that didn't in the slightest get into what had happened at the party. That was something she never wanted to talk about. "What about you Amara? Have you won any races lately? What have you been up to?"
