Well, 300 has only just come out (hasn't, in fact, in some parts of the country) and already there's enough wank to keep us occupied for hours. For a taste, I offer up this. I'd discount the horribly-racist commentary, only I've seen too much of that stuff to be sure it's fake.

So ... what are your thoughts? Personally, I've always sort of thought that the Battle at Thermopylae was one of the coolest bits of history ever, and that it was an amazing battle. Before this, I never would have connected it in my brain to the war in Iraq or George W. Bush.

Also, is anyone going to see it? Anyone who posts a review gets a cookie.gif

I have heard no wank. I'm under a rock (or rather, under a baby).

What are they saying?

Wellll ... let me link you.

Fandom_wank has the two main wanks - one from before, one from after. This is the livejournal entry that started the first f_w one.

Also, Iran (yes, the country) is wanking.

I want to see this movie so badly ...

Ummm... people are missing the point. THE PERSIANS INVADED SPARTA!!! Leonides didn't go tromping all over the Persians based on spurious intelligence and what the voices in his head told him!

Oh, and how about the fact that this is based on a COMIC BOOK? And not even a historically accurate one, either!

And don't get me started on Iran. They got Disney to back down and change the opening song from Aladdin.

Okay. That's enough. I have to wait for the DVD, in any case. It's too loud of a movie for me to take Jacob.

Seems people are looking too far into it?

I thought it was excellent and I highly recommend seeing it on the big screen. Tv just isn't going to do the graphics and gore justice. Their choice in colors really is impressive and overall the film was well put together. Despite being based off of the comic book series, it was fairly accurate in the historic sense. Although some of the Persian...uhh...monster/beast fighters (?) seemed a little over-done (eh creepy too.) In any case...I'll probably spend the buck and buy it. It met my expectations.

On a side note, it was only my second time leaving my daughter since she was born this past September. I was distracted through nearly the whole film. I can't seem to unglue myself, but I guess that's not a bad thing?

Off topic but...can I have a pet sheep? sheep.gif

(Of course you may have a sheep.gif , but are you sure you wouldn't rather have goslings to juggle? goslings.gif )

I was completely underwhelmed by the level of offensive content in the movie. I expected them to make multiple homophobic comments about the Athenians, and I expected the Persians to be a lot weirder and so on than they were. As someone said in response to a rant, "When we got to the bit with the sitar-playing goat, you'd think we'd have realized this wasn't supposed to be taken seriously."

And I hate to admit it, but I kept wondering where they got the food they kept eating. They trekked off in their underwear. I mean, really. At least one person needed to be carrying a backpack for that to work.

Wait....another Mom on the list? And yours is almost as old as mine?

WHERE have you been hiding?

I've been hiding in school books I suppose! I've been soo swamped with baby, work, and school that I haven't had much "me" time. I'm a full time student and I'm self-employed so it's been interesting adding baby in the mix and keeping up.

I'm sooo glad I found this forum though. I like it.

When was your baby born? I'm assuming from you Avatar you have yourself a little boy named Jacob? My daughter was born September 4th and her name is Berlin Theory.

Jacob Anthony was born August 15. biggrin.gif

And right now, I'm a SAHM, working on getting my jewelry business running again. It's been on hold due to the pregnancy and the fact that we moved from maryland to Florida last spring. All of my studios boxes are FINALLY empty, and I'm getting the website done.

So this topic has been officially hijacked, but oh well, because I'm officially fascinated. Can I ask about the origins of the baby name "Berlin Theory"?

Yes, I suppose it has been hijacked. Sorry unsure.gif

As to my daughter's name it started out as a quest for something unusual. I searched through endless baby-name books and websites and came out with a small list considering. Looking for inspiration, outside of the sources I had already scoured, I started looking at city names. I found a few that sounded feminine, but most were just weird huh.gif Berlin was our favorite of the ones I found and her father's family is from Germany.

The Theory part is altogether different. I just really love the way the word sounds regardless of it's meaning and thought it would make for an interesting and beautiful name. Somehow it ended up becoming second runner up. We actually almost named her Theory, except I wanted to spell it Thiery, but people had a harder time accepting it than Berlin.

I still get extremely mixed feelings about her name and I will admit it bothers me a little more than I expected itto. I truly love it though. So in conclusion Berlin became her first name and since we couldn't find something we liked to go with it other than Theory, it stuck. I still wish I would have spelled it Thiery, but her father really liked the original spelling and at the time I was too baby-blissed out to argue. tongue.gif

I've already had a few people tell me it sounds like a spy novel title. Lol. People seem to either love it or hate it.

Wow, sorry this got so long!

Our kiddos aren't that far apart at all!

If you haven't already, you should check out PregnancyWeekly. I belong to the August birthboard (forum) on there. August because my daughter was actually due in August and I became attached to the women there so I stayed. It's just really nice to talk to other moms, get advice, and see how other babies are developing. There is also an artist forum that I check into from time to time and there are a couple women who make jewelry on there. Just thought you might be interested!
