The Portuguese ambassador bowed and shook the hand of Mr. Foch as he introduced himself. "I am Fernando Alfonso. It is a pleasure to meet with you, Senhor Foch."

Alfonso sat as a glass of wine was poured and offered to him. He eagerly accepted. "This is beautiful wine, Senhor Foch." Alfonso tasted it.

Foch's fingers slid down his cold wineglass. "Yes Monsieur, France belives that such an agreement would be beneficial to all nations concerned. But before going further Monsieur, I trust you have read the draft agreement?"

Alfonso nodded. "Yes of course." Foch said. "But we need to know where we stand with the agreement. France agrees of course, but what does Portugal think on the matter? I can tell you that France has a few aditions to the agreement, so I was also wondering whether you have some proposals also Monsieur." Foch lifted his glass to his lips and took a long sip as he waited for Alfonso to reply.
