The circus is coming to town and the Monaco royals are getting set for their traditional festival.
Princess Stephanie was pictured visiting elephant trainer Flavio Togni from the American Circus Troupe ahead of the Monte Carlo International Circus Festival. http://www.hellomagazine.com/celebrities-n...-01-2011/55529/ -------------------- “We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with which we treat the animals. Animals suffer as much as we do. True humanity does not allow us to impose such sufferings on them. It is our duty to make the whole world recognize it. Until we extend our circle of compassion to all living things, humanity will not find peace.”

Circus street parade Saturday
As usual, a mini zoo has sprung up round the tent and the pungent smell of horse manure and elephant dung fills the genteel air of this rather salubrious district. Always controversial, the presence of animals in this circus is what sets it apart, particularly for children. The organisers, with Princess Stéphanie as a very hands-on president, argue that zoos and circuses play an important role in animal conservation and that they keep a very close eye on the welfare of the acts they invite. This year there are five animal acts featuring elephants, horses, camels and tigers. http://www.rivieratimes.com/index.php/mona...urday-2101.html -------------------- “We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with which we treat the animals. Italy’s Flavio Togni, last here in 1998, makes a welcome return for the first of three appearances, starting with five Indian elephants adorned with silver glitter headdresses and ridden by glamour girls wearing psychedelic-swirl catsuits.

Thanks for posting, crm.
A shame to see Stephanie still supporting this abuse. The Danish royal family patronises Circus Benneweis, and has had up-close contact with the elephants - it's "almost an established tradition" for representatives of the family to attend that circus when it is in Graasten. -------------------- "They need to move and have stimulation. Elephants on the loose in Copenhagen traffic
The two elephants that escaped from Cirkus Benneweis to take a stroll down Borups Alle in Copenhagen this morning have been recaptured. http://cphpost.dk/news/local/elephants-loo...enhagen-traffic -------------------- “We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with which we treat the animals. Thanks for posting, SL.
African SONJA and Asian VANA MANA [Lars Holscher] are 2 of the 3 elephants imported into the UK in 2009 by the notorious Great British Circus aka Big Top Productions [Martin Lacey]. Once again, there is no mention of Asian DELHI, who I believe to be ailing. I understand she has osteoarthritis in one of her front legs. Here's the info in a German article from 2008 [Google will translate]: The elephant-drama from Kochelsee For Delhi could not stand it anymore! "The ground was slippery and muddy. The animal was simply no support with the hind legs, "says Florian Eberl, the 2nd Commander of the fire brigade. In addition to that, the 35-year-old female elephant has arthritis in one of her front legs. 20 circus people, walkers and swimmers had already tried to help Dehli on the legs until the fire brigade arrived - but in vain. A crane was needed to Delhi then a strap was placed around the stomach - and finally, after over an hour of hope and fear, the animal was redeemed. http://www.tz-online.de/aktuelles/bayern/d...lsee-64840.html -------------------- "They need to move and have stimulation. Following on the 2 posts here of 12 September 2012:
12 Sept 2012. Photo of, I believe, Lars Holscher, standing on Vana Mana's head, watched by Sonja, and this info: Lars Hölscher to participate in the XIII International Circus Festival in Warsaw. When Circus Benneweis ends their season on Bellahoj in Copenhagen on 16 September Lars Hölscher and his elephants goes to Warsaw, where they from 22 September to 28 October will participate the 13th International Circus Festival in Warsaw (XIII Miêdzynarodowego Festiwalu Sztuki Cyrkowej). The festival is organized by the Polish Circus Zalewski. http://www.cirkus-dk.dk/htm/news_from_denmark.htm -------------------- "They need to move and have stimulation.
