Thanks to Liberen A Ramba for drawing attention to the plight of Flavia:
Photo and short report: She is Flavia. She lives in Cordoba (Spain) and has 37 years alone, 37 years without touching another living being, without giving or receiving a caress, but not pulling them out of there, for political reasons. Interestingly is the symbol of the zoo. It's getting a petition to be valid requires that you have ID. If you live in another country, help us to spread this case and to reach many parts of the world. https://www.facebook.com/thedswt#!/phot...&type=1&theater Petition on this link: Anyone who has ever seen a documentary of elephants, the first thing that stands out is the great family ties they generate, are social dramatically that even cherish the remains of someone who died long ago .... If there is a specific characteristic of the species, is precisely what they are social. in Cordoba (Spain) there is a zoo, in that there is an elephant zoo india, Flavia .... Flavia has 37 years alone in the zoo (not sure if the previous zoo was alone), 37 years without touching another living being, without giving or receiving a caress, but not pulling them out of there, for political reasons and economic, because the command zoo curiously, this is the life that you have given ironies of life. Its non-contact situation is such that now, after 37 years, are concerned to train it to accept the vet's care, in other words, never have. It is important ... think in 37 years without ever seeing another human, isolated, without re-touch anyone, only beings of another species, which pass across a pit and look at you .... 37 years! We are not humanize an animal, we have a social animal deprived of their basic needs such as relationships, over a lifetime, it is time to let Flavia end their days together with theirs, we owe. With the collection of signatures is to ask the City of Cordoba, and many authorities are necessary, allowing the withdrawal of Flavia at a reserve, sanctuary or the like, where you can enjoy the days remaining in your family with his kind. The option to bring another elephant, trying to become pregnant, or any other reason that involves fill his solitude with the imprisonment of another animal, not an option to contemplate. http://www.peticionpublica.es/PeticaoVer.a..._source=message [Both sites are in Spanish - Iused Google to translate.] -------------------- "They need to move and have stimulation. This database says that wildborn Asian female Flavia is 42 and has been at the zoo since 1973. She is the only elephant the zoo has ever had.
http://www.elephant.se/location2.php?location_id=403&show=2 20 photos (2006-2011) of Flavia/Cicca and her exhibit on this link. The exhibit appears to have been renovated some time between 2006 and 2011, but it still looks awful - please see photos 13, 15, 18-20, which show a low wall with a double row of spikes on top, and then a vertical-sided concrete ditch. http://www.asianelephant.net/cordoba/cordoba.htm# -------------------- "They need to move and have stimulation.
