Hadi Shrine Circus
Viola was performing with Cole Bros. earlier this year and ran away, injuring herself in the process. She was performing with the Frisco Bros. Elepant Show last month. Now she is being forced to perform again with the Hadi Shrine Circus. Elephant walk to new arena planned Wednesday Viola is part of a troupe of elephants in town from Oklahoma for the 77th annual circus which begins Thursday at Roberts Stadium and runs for nine performances through Sunday. http://www.courierpress.com/news/2010/nov/...nned-wednesday/ This post has been edited by Space4Eles on Dec 25 2012, 07:58 AM -------------------- “We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with which we treat the animals. Poor Viola, in line for yet more public abuse. She will be under the same roof as "the various gadgetry used in acts such as the incline motorcycles." What a cruel environment is that. Circus folk say they love their elephants, but their actions prove otherwise - time and time again. -------------------- “We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with which we treat the animals. I got a response back from the group that had hosted Viola (Cole Brothers) when she escaped earlier this year and they said, we "will not" be hosting any circuses again. -------------------- “We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with which we treat the animals. Elephant walk to Downtown arena canceled
Shrine officials at Hadi Temple said the noon event had to be scrapped because of "unforeseen circumstances" and the late arrival in Evansville of the elephants and their chief handler. http://www.courierpress.com/news/2010/nov/...arena-canceled/ -------------------- “We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with which we treat the animals. I wonder what the "unforeseen circumstances" were. Were they something different from the late arrival of the elephants? -------------------- “We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with which we treat the animals. "It's more of a circus feel because, in our opinion, if you don't have a tent and an elephant, you're not really a circus," said Barbara Miller-Byrd, third-generation owner of Carson & Barnes Circus, self-proclaimed the world's biggest big-top show. "We definitely have a beautiful tent, we definitely have elephants and you're about 50 feet away from the action."

City Rejects Permit For 'Carson And Barnes' Circus

COPPERAS COVE — Weighing in at more than 9,000 pounds each, Mini, Libby and Suzie — three Asian elephants — are the biggest attractions at the Carson & Barnes Circus.
For handler John Walker III, tending to the show's largest performers is more than a full-time job. He works for the animals 24/7 making sure their needs are met. http://www.kdhnews.com/news/story.aspx?s=65627 -------------------- “We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with which we treat the animals. Circus will be Lions Club fundraiser
Reynoldsburg's Civic Park will become a circus ground July 26 when the local Lions Club brings in the Carson and Barnes Circus for two shows under the big top. President Kathy Baker said the performances will be fundraisers for the Reynoldsburg Lions Club. Shows will be held at 4 and 7:30 p.m., she said. "It will help us raise funds for our projects as well as providing a wonderful community-based event," she said. "We are still in the early planning state of this great project, but plans are to have several fun events prior to the circus day." http://www.thisweeknews.com/content/storie...fundraiser.html -------------------- “We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with which we treat the animals. Controversy under the Big Top
Many of the public safety citations have stemmed from not providing proper supervision during elephant rides, while last summer there was also an incident at the Kelly Miller Circus, a sister circus of Carson & Barnes, where three tigers escaped from their enclosure and injured a horse. http://www.ourcoloradonews.com/highlandsra...1a4bcf887a.html -------------------- “We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with which we treat the animals. Good comments following the article:
“They wanted to ride the elephants,” Forbes said, laughing. Fortunately for them, a few obliging pachyderms were on hand Tuesday to fulfill their wish. http://www.craigdailypress.com/news/2012/m...ctions-big-top/ -------------------- “We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with which we treat the animals. Thanks to a member of TEC Facebook for alerting us to this opinion piece relating to the return of Carson & Barnes to Colorado.
Ignorance is No Excuse The USDA has cited Carson & Barnes numerous times for failure to provide their animals with even basic veterinary care. They are constantly being cited for not providing hoof care for the elephants (foot-related neglect is one of the leading causes of death in elephants in captivity) and in the report it mentions one of the elephants even had fencing wire embedded in her hind foot. There are reports from the USDA of baby elephants being taken prematurely from their mothers and being forced to perform through abusive training methods ... I wish Pagosa Springs had done a little research before welcoming Carson & Barnes Circus with open arms. I am afraid ignorance is no longer a valid excuse. http://www.pagosadailypost.com/news/20678/...e_is_No_Excuse/ -------------------- "They need to move and have stimulation. Carson and Barnes performs for North Platte
During intermission, a petting zoo and concessions were open. People petted llamas, rode on their choice of a camel or two elephants. Human, animal performers delight audience in 'big top' performance
The circus also introduced its stars, two Asian elephants named Viola and Kelly. The circus has a total of 27 elephants at its base in Hugo, Okla., and they are named for family members of the circus.
